Ordered a Sega CD unit for my Genesis. Picked up Popful Mail and Spiderman vs. Kingpin.
Any recommendations? (or just conversation about this console addition and its game offerings)

Sega CD is a pretty nifty system for shooters, I recommend Robo Aleste, Astroid Assault: Bari Arm, Sol Feace (don't listen to people that diss this game, it's still a pretty cool game), Silpheed, and Keio's Flying Circus!
Sega CD is pretty much unlimited for FMV-based games, so if you enjoy cheesy movies and cheesy games, you'll love these then, at least for laughing because the gameplay for a lot of them is too damn hard to figure out! Sewer Shark is an easier one to play and it's hilarious!
I also recently picked up this sweet FMV game last Friday called "Revenge of the Ninja" which is a anime movie where you have to respond to the controls that pop on the screen, it has some really kick ass scenes in it. However the game is super easy and can beaten it like less than 15 minutes, so you'll probably only play this one once.
Don't forget your RPGs: Lunar: Silvar Star, Lunar: Eternal Blue, Vay, and Shining Force CD!
And you if you have a little extra money on your hands, definitely check out Snatcher, an outstanding digital comic that's actually in English!
The thing that sucks about Sega CD is that really cool games can take some good money out of your wallet!

Ya, Popful Mail was going for between 60 - 75 on ebay, I managed a buy it now freshly listed at 37 shipped which seemed to be an okay deal. Snatcher I do want to get, but again at $60 I think I will hold off for a bit. Maybe a nice fellow gamer will offer me a good deal in the digital press forums.

If you like fighting games and have a six button controller (an absolute MUST for this game...!), get Eternal Champions: Challenge From The Dark Side. I swear, it's one of the most complex fighters I've ever seen and even fighting games today have a hard time rivalling it...there's SO many moves and combos for each character, and unlike most fighting games where you can use the same strategy no matter who you play as, this one requires a different strategy for EVERY character against EVERY character...and then there's a ton of secret characters to find as well (such as my personal favourites, Senator and Crispy!). Oh yeah...and the various finishers are quite gruesome as well...my personal favourite is Dawson's Overkill...ouch, what a horrible way to die...anyone who knows it knows why. :)
Oh and I should point out that the Sega CD isn't dead either...there are new games being developed for it by independants, and it's a rather easy console to do distro for since it uses the ISO9660 standard...it's just not a terribly easy console to program.

Good luck tracking down Snatcher.
I found that for 2 bucks complete over a few years ago, so that game's gonna die with me.
My favorites are Ground Zero Texas, Sewer Shark, Shining Force CD, Lunar, Snatcher and Final Fight.

Keio the Flying Squadron get it's a silly shooter by JVC.

I think I saw this game going for over 100 on ebay... Is this normal?

Dungeon Explorer!! GREAT game with THE BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER TO EMBRACE THE FACE OF THE EARTH! HONESTLY!

Well, so far I've picked these up.
Snatcher
Popful Mail
Lunar II
Shining Force CD
Do you think I should play Silver Star before I get into Eternal Blue on the Lunar Series? I haven't touched these yet. Is there any others in the series I should check out, any order to them?
-
Damn, got a little extra money on your hands, do 'ya? ;)
I'd definitely recommend playing Silver Star first before Eternal Blue. You could still play and enjoy Eternal Blue just fine before playing Silver Star, but you will enjoy it much more if you play Silver Star first because of the character comebacks and what not.

Yeah definitely go through the Lunar games in order, it'll be way more fun. Plus the Sega CD versions are about 100 times better than the Playstation remakes, so you have the best versions available.

Hey Keranu if like Revenge of the Ninja, they have it for saturn as a duo pak game - time gal + revenge of the ninja.
Hehe, also there's a LaserDisc emulator out there - would be sweet to see time gal and revenge of the ninja in beautiful laserdisc glory!!! Ahh-hahahahaha... hahaha
-
Someone out there should review the LaserActive version of Time Gal, I've always wondered how that one is.

The emus dont actually run the LD disc however, just crap rips of the video from different sources.
All the LD arcade hardware was was a rom board and a ld player. All it was was timing, telling the ld player what to play and when to play it.

I read the rips were MPEG format, but I wasn't sure if it was mpeg1 or 2 and what the res of the file were. Are there multiple rips of the same game? Even so, it's got to be better then the saturn, which isn't that much better then the sega cd.
