Title: PC-FX video thread
Post by: SamIAm on February 03, 2013, 08:51:25 AM
It's always nice when the PC-FX board sees a little activity, and this could be interesting for everyone. There's lots of videos to be found on youtube, but there are literally hundreds on nicovideo.jp. Find something good, share the link, and tell us about it. I'll start with two.

This is a collection of every animated sequence from Ruruli Ra Rula (or however the hell it's supposed to be written). On a system starved for action, RRR is a game everyone wants to love, but the gameplay is just a little too decrepit to win a lot of people over in the end. Its biggest redeeming factor is its animated cutscenes that occur throughout the stages. They're funny, have a lot of personality, and are well-made in spite of any budget constraints. There's a good 20 minutes of them, too.

I posted this in the other thread, but let me give a bit more of an introduction. This is a promotional video from before the release of the PC-FX. It's probably the summer of '94, judging by the weather. As you can probably tell, this is early-90's Japanese as hell, and it's also all very staged and cheesy. In a charming way, though. :)

"There's no PC-FX here."
"What!? No!! We want to see it!!"
"Boss, why don't we show them?"
"Yeah, show us!!"
"Well, OK. Just a little."

Mai Hosho is some kind of teen-idol who was just 17 at the time this was made. I think she's still a model now. Anyway, she says she broke her Famicom from playing too much, and hasn't played games since she was in elementary school. Join her and her fashion-challenged companions as they tour the NEC headquarters to see the PC-FX in development and share their astonishment at how awesome it is.

If only they had released Kuma Soldier!

Nice topic idea. :) I probably should've made the other topic a little more useful than about a single commercial, haha.

I like watching the Battle Heat intro from time to time. I wouldn't say I'm a huge anime fanatic, despite my love for the PC-FX, but the time period in which I was biggest on anime was back in the '90s and I think the Battle Heat intro captures everything that was awesome about '90s anime. It's flashy, stylish, has badass characters, a cheesy yet so catchy theme song, and the animation is so fluid and crisp. Even with this being a launch title, I still think this is some of the best quality FMV, on a technical level, on the PC-FX. Of course, a compressed Youtube video doesn't do it justice, but sometimes I'm too lazy to pull the system out if I just want to watch or listen to the Battle Heat intro. :P

Hell yes. Gotta have the cheesy + catchy theme song.
