Title: Anyone ever watch cubex55's channel on Youtube?
Post by: roflmao on February 15, 2013, 04:06:02 PM
I've been subscribed, off and on, to this channel for a year or two now and there's a lot of good OBEY to be found. They do longplays for pretty much any console (including PC games) but they cover a ton of PC Engine games. I think they've completed over 300 so far. Here's a playlist of their first 175 PC Engine games: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1F64ED5845C1E3CE
Anyway, I thought I'd pass it along.

Problem with that channel is that they use emulators, and they cheat. They fully endorse save stating. So between those 2 things I find their vids to be a waste of time.

I'm not subbed to them, but I come across their videos often when I am looking for gameplay videos to preview a title. To that effect, I am glad they are around.

Ive,watch that person play through before it's fine if you want to see what the game is like.Still if you want to watch a legit run look else where.

I like how they usually leave most cut-scenes or openings going so we can see the dialog. I've watched them, and see nothing wrong with the way they present their game-play videos.

I'm actually really surprised at the response here. Sure, they're probably using save states, and whatnot, but they are making available FULL PLAYTHRUs of over 300 PC Engine games. Freaking sweet, imo, if only for the music and cutscenes. But I have to say, some of these videos have helped me figure out how to get through certain difficult areas. :P

If I'm looking through a playthrough i usually look up the Japanese title on nicovideo as I can usually find someone with real skills clearing a game

I really enjoy this channel, regardless of what y'all think. :p
HOWEVER, I've just been just been watching their play through of and it's completely evident that they don't know what in the world they are doing, yet they clear the game with ease. It's obvious to anyone who's spent any solid amount of time with this game that they are just plain playing it wrong. :)
And that's frustrating. From now on, I will take their play throughs with a grain of salt.
P.S. - I also recently watched their play through of and it had me thinking there was no way I'd ever be able to memorize all that stuff!

You do realize all of their videos are emulated and fully endorse save stating right? If you're looking for a legit run, don't bother with them.

They're making the videos to preserve games, not to wave their dicks around.

Some of the playthroughs are bad, but I don't watch them to observe skill. When I'm sitting around with time to kill and want to see some PC Engine action or look up a few scenes I remember from games that would take countless hours to reach, it's so nice to have a good selection of PCE videos on youtube now with decent image quality. Sometimes I just feel like looking at the Hitler fight in Download 2 or a cool effect from any number of games or compare versions of a game and when looking them up on youtube, most of the time nothing beats cubex. I look forward to the day when there are high quality videos of every game recorded from real hardware. In the meantime I appreciate what we do have.

I don't need cheats but they are decent enough playthroughs.
