After playing the demo today, all i could say is " I miss IGA". The game is hard to see because its so zoomed out. The battle system is a 3d action game battle system thrown into a 2d plane game. Shit feels awful. Framerate feels bad. I will still be picking it up because its a castlevania game, but i will wait until its cheap
-
Yeah, I really didn't like it either. It was really, really boring. I think you're right about crap 3d action in a 2d game- the "jump on the boss and hit Y" stuff was stupid.
-
Not again another farklevania..bummler!!!
-
Yup. I'd probably be fine with the game if they didn't call it Castlevania. It's like taking that shitty Sylpheed game by Square Enix on the Xbox 360 and calling it Gate of Thunder.
-
I didn't mean its name per se, but the fact that they
couldn't make a classy one like on the DS/GBA.
It's been quite a while ya know.
-
Bummer, I was hoping atleast this one would feel more like a CV game. Maybe they'll go back to the old CV universe someday...maybe?
-
IMO the GBA/DS era was so kind to Castlevania, moreso than any other system, that I don't even need another one.

They did. But it's a lightweight game called Castlevania AfterBirth for the Wii and it's digital download only, not a real game. I'd like to see one like that with a full budget.

With that said, for what it is it's pretty good. It's way better than Adventure which it's loosely based on. I had a lot of fun playing Castlevana ReBirth and I'd recommend it to those who are fans of the old style gameplay games in the series.

Agree. Especially since it may be the last good Castlevania game we ever get.
-
Yeah. Unfortunately it's crazy short.

Yes, but the time I spent trying to get through that clock level made it take a crazy long time to actually finish.
-
I forgot about that one. I'd be more likely to pick it up if it were on PSN, since I have zero room for anymore games on my Wii, but I can easily fit plenty of games on my PS3, but it's probably locked as a Wii exlusive me thinks. I personally prefer the Castleroid formula(partially cuz I can actually beat them, whereas most of the older ones I just suck at), but I do love the old games.

Rebirth was a great but short game, but i would take another one of those over this mirror of fate crap anyday

pce drac x is still the greatest of all of 'em, especially when considering its age and on what hardware it's running on :)
-
I didn't mind the demo, but I agree that it was Castlevania in name and location only. It's got 3D action controls in a 2-ishD environment, and felt like a 2D God of War.
The game itself looks beautiful, and it's not bad by any means. But it would've been way better to have a "normal" Castlevania with the 3DS 3D effect. That really would've popped.

I agree. I did like Symphony of the Night/Nocturne in the Moonlight and a few of the other games in that style, but I think they definitely took the ball and ran too far with it on the whole Metroidvania style. PCE Dracula X had a great atmosphere and music. I can't even remember the music from this latest 3DS demo. The game has no personality. PCE Dracula X has tons.
-
Personality is a great term to describe it. Something that 99.9% of all todays game do not have anymore.
-
I've never played the original Lords of Shadow (I'd like to someday) and barely played any 3D Castlevania game as a matter of fact. Mirror of Fate isn't appealing to me at all. From what I have seen, it looked like a 2D God of War to me too.
I have to agree that the PCE Dracula X was an incredible game but SotN is possibly my favorite video game of all times. It just perfectly fits my tastes in every of it's aspects.

I f*cking loled, so hard.

I miss the old style castlevania before SOTN
