Title: Best Component Mod For Turbo-Duo
Post by: Harmik on April 02, 2013, 08:27:07 PM
Hello I want to do a S-video and component mod for my Turbo-Duo and would like to know what the very best is.
Is it the JROK or something ells I am not looking for the cheapest just what would give me the best results, I would like the unit to be internal if possible.

Thank you for any help.

Thanks for the reply ApolloBoy I will have to read through all that. But do you or anyone ells know if someone is working on a nice looking professionally made kit.

And what do you think about using the JROK as it is ready made, as I said I do not care so much about the price I just want the best.

Thanks again

[I think] JROK doesn't work or it's not known if it works with a Turbo Duo and that's with or without the separate Sync cleaner. And JROK is your only professionally made kit so far BTW... Up to you if you wanna take this risk.

I do know of something that might be better down the road from a guy called Ace if you're willing to buy and install a IC chip or two, but it's still in the development stages just like the circuit that steve is working on in my thread that was linked above...

http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?22237-New-RGB-to-Component-converter-design-using-the-BA7230LS

There's a chip called BA7230LS (you can buy it from utsource.net) that inputs RGB and outputs Luma/Y, Red-Y and Blue-Y, however, it doesn't mix the Sync and Luma for you so that's done externally, but he's had problems doing that on most systems... On a Turbo Duo, he said it works good with the LM1881 chip which strips Sync from the regular Composite signal which works out better when mixed.

Anyway, you need to become a member of the Sega site to see his circuit and maybe you wanna ask him for more details, but yeah, his circuit is still in development, he's still learning that chip and it not mixing the Sync has been a problem. That much I know. So basically, the sure-fire thing here so far is S-Video, and when it comes to Component mods, you need to wait a little while longer, but we're getting closer.

Thanks very much NightWolf that info sounds awesome. I did about 12 hours worth of Googleing  before I posted this thread and did not find the links that you and ApolloBoy provided so thanks again.

Looks like I have a lot of reading to do on my next day off.

Until the component circuits are completed doing a amped RGB mod and using a RGB to component transcoder looks great, and the transcoder will work on other game systems as well.

Just read all the posts am I right in that both thesteve mod and the ACE mod are planed to end up as kits. And that the ACE mod is more of a generic mod that will work for different systems and I think be external.

And thesteve mod is more for the Duo will have svideo as well and be internal.

mine will be usable for RGB,component or S-vid, as the amps are discreet
