Title: A question about "The Kung Fu"
Post by: Nando on April 17, 2013, 07:43:03 AM
So the cover has "THE"

the kung fu part is 功夫

what are the characters above wushu? (see what I did there?)

seriously though, is that like "the" in JP? does it read, THE "the" 功夫  #-o

that is katakana up top for "Kung Fu"

So, it just says "The KUNG FU KUNG FU!"

Furigana (more or less), kana to give pronounciation help to people who can't read Chinese characters.

one of those Japanese oddities is that peeps here kinda like to use the "THE" [ザ] in like brand names, company names, shops etc.
dunno from where it exactly comes really, but there are probably thousands of ザ + a name examples here in Japan.

one of the parade example is the biggest 100yen chain shop DAISO which calles itself THE DAISO / ザダイソー

Considering there is no Japanese equivalent to "the", I'd say they have what Freud would call "The Envy".
