hi there,
anybody ever tried to play through sorcerian for the pc engine? anybody ever got stuck playing through sorcerian? anybody ever wanted to start it?
here is your chance.
lets play through the game together!
i would say starting day is may 14th.
by that time i should have finished dragon slayer II.
if you have sorcerian and want to play through it, start on may 14th.
lets find out if the guides on gamefaqs (pc, genesis versions) are useable for the PCE one:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/581745-sorcerian/faqs/42175
http://www.gamefaqs.com/genesis/579569-sorcerian/faqs/15614
there are also some japanese guides out there:
http://jdk.sakura.ne.jp/games/sor_o/guide.htm
http://homepage2.nifty.com/tkdate/about/sorPCE.html
main menue:
http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/sorcerian/menu2.png
together we can help each other and play through the game for sure!
thanks

What the hell, I'm in. I don't have the time either, but I'll give it a shot.
-
i dont also have the time and i hope i can finish dragon slayer II till then (grinding sucks^^).
but lets give it a try.
maybe we can play and finish sorcerian. first it is to find out which 7 chapters from the pc version are also present in the PCE version.
3 chapters of the PCE version are brand new.
http://homepage2.nifty.com/tkdate/consumer/scenario/scenario2.html
just translate it into google and then you can see enemies, items, maps of the pc engine version by clicking on each chapter.
-
3-1. THE GARDEN OF THE GODS (3 character limit)
3-2. THE CAVERNS OF ICE
3-3. THE CURSE OF MEDUSA (3 character limit)
1-4. THE CURSED OASIS
2-4. THE DARK MAGICIAN (3 character limit)
2-5. THE CURSED SHIP (3 character limit)
3-5. THE WATER OF LIFE
i think these are the chapters from the english PC FAQ which are also available in the PCE version.
-
I don't have the time this month either, but I'll definitely be keeping tabs on the progress of everybody who plays and hopefully pick up some good info to help me out when I can start. :)
-
I'm tempted, but it's a bit too pricey for me at the moment, and lower on my list than the likes of Spriggan.

at least we know for which chapters we can use the english walkthrough now. ;)
and maps of each chapter are on the japanese page i posted.
just start when you are ready.

Im in! Hopefully I can get a copy by then. I'm almost done with Ruin but I pay rpgs at a snail's pace.

great to hear^^
i play rpgs at speed. i love rpgs.
-
I've no copy and no plans of buying more OBEY soon, else I'd join in. So more games can be done afterwards (preferably titles I own ), I hope this works out better than the last "let's play together".
-
so get it till then. ;)
by the way, anybody who is in please post here.
wish i could get it. I just dropped over $200 on turbo stuff. Im actually selling my N64 collection to get some of that money back. I do hope this works, so we can do it again with another games (far east of eden kaibuki den maybe)
-
This sounds fun! I don't have a copy, and I probably wouldn't have the time anyway, but I will read any updates posted here.
Maybe someone could create an Engilsh walkthrough/guide for this game while playing through it?
-
What do we do if we already beat this game. Can I just sit back and giggle?
-
The 14th, eh? I'm in!

It's like drop into these classes where they start with stuff you already did last year. These are the good and relaxing classes.

maybe you can help if we get stuck. ;)
did you use any walkthroughs? maybe some helpful advices?
and how long is the game?

I finished the game in a week, but this was during christmas break, so each day of playing was like 8-10 hours. I'm not sure how long it actually takes.
As for advice: Step 1 is making sure you know how the menu works! If you can't do that, you can't even start the game, lol.
Past that, there really is not much to the game. It's easier than Drasle Family (DSIV), because the dungeons/exploring aren't as convoluted. Half the time, you can just plow forward and mash the button and flail and be completely fine.
-
here's a pic of the translated main menu from this hardcoregaming101 article http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/sorcerian/sorcerian.htm
(http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/sorcerian/menu2.png)
-
Yes, that will be quite helpful, lol.
Half the battle of the game is figuring that shit out.
What's interesting about the game is that it's broken into scenarios with objectives. So you get this grand sense of time progression and epic tales of adventure.
Some other things worth noting about the game, now that I've thought about it some more:
High Karma = Good. IIRC, it makes you level faster if you're a good dude.
Be careful with age of characters. They can randomly die when they're old. It's kind of lame. You can make them immortal or give them years back. Or you can let them drop and then replace them with the same thing, but at level 0. Which... is odd?
That being said, take at least 1 Elf. They live to be like 90000.
Make sure you don't ignore enchanting at the magic guy. It's awesome.
Your party leader should have a high vitality so he can open doors (and this gets harder the farther in you get)
Don't forget to doof around looking for loot in the dungeons. Some loot doesn't trigger until you do what you're supposed to do. You're supposed to give the king guy presents after scenarios complete. If you like the loot and want your guys to use it, f*ck the king. Keep the prizes!
Make sure everyone has ways to heal. Give everyone a potion, and shit. Healing (and defense spells) are important.
While the magic in the game is f*cking awesome (like seriously, awesome), don't skimp on having Rambo McShwarzeneggars in your party. Because of the treasure mix you'll get, you don't want to find toys your dudes can't even use
Enjoy the "what do I do with this item" shenanigans as you run around the levels. Running is exciting.

That English menu is a lifesaver. I assume the PC Engine version has all the same options in the same spots?
-
PCE main menu is a little different:
The left hand column:
Start Adventure
View Party
Organize Party
Disband Party
Go To Town
Quit for Today
The right hand column:
Advance Time
View Character
Create Character
Delete Character
Change Occupation
Load Sample Characters (premade party)
Continue
-
It's functionally identical. Except for the Save Characters thing.
-
Thanks for the translation, grahf!

I was on the toilet and wanted to do something. WIDESCREEN may not be practical, but TOO BAD. I was experimenting. I can make a traditional size if you folks prefer.

Lookin' good!
If someone takes some screen shots of the other static screens, I'll give those a once over as well.
If I recall, the town has a list of places to visit. That might be a good next one to do.
Also, I guess the list of occupations is probably useful for people.
I haven't fired it up myself in a while, so I'm not sure what all is there at the beginning.
-
maybe i find the time and post the sub menu screenshots of the above main menu before may 14th.
if i have the time before then. or maybe someone else has the time?
by the way iam right before the final boss in dragon slayer 2. :)
-
everboy whos starting also should print out the maps of each scenario from that japanese page:
http://homepage2.nifty.com/tkdate/consumer/scenario/scenario2.html
-
these are the japanese town menus:
-

-
chemist shop
-

@ grahf and esteban: maybe you two could yo your magnificient work on those screenshots til we start the game on may 14th? i finished dragon slayer II today and iam ready to go. :)
character creation is rather easy:
put in a name - choose class - choose gender - give bonus points to stats

Absolutely. If folks (AKA grahf (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png) ) translate the menus, I'll happily make some cute-looking, translated screenshots. Note that the last one I made has a jumbo-size (to make it easier to read).
-
I couldn't find a decent copy in time :( CDr will have to do the trick for now. The more I see of this game the cooler it looks though!

I want to sell medicine.

Please search for possessions.

I'll see if I can get to the rest tomorrow. Can anyone double check these?
-
thanks a lot grahf.
by the way, i startet the game and did already play through scenarios 1 "before dark" and 2 "garden of the gods".
so far the game is not so difficult to understand and i did not have many problems. just talk to everyone twice and after receiving a new item, do the same over and over.
if you finish one scenario the music changes to a happy music and you know its over.
i have some questions so far:
1. is it possible to buy better weapons, armors and so at the weapon shop as the game progresses? or is it only possible to find those in the scenarios?
2. do i really need to change a characters occupation to finish the game?
--------------------
helpful note #1:
after a scenario is completed there is a results screen which shows the exp, the items you found and the money you got.
if you did find any weapons or armors and want to change these on your characters, just select the one you want to drop off (1. weapon, 2. armor, 3. shield, 4. ring) on the right side under your characters name and choose the first option. then the place is empty and you can select the new weapon, armor on the left side of the screen. choose also the first option and it will be automatically equipped on the character.
you need to be sure what kind of equipment it is that you found during the scenario!
-
I should be able to make some nice screens tonight—however, does anyone have better screenshots of the menus?
Thanks...
-
can anybody help me out with these questions:
1. i finished scenario 1 and 2 in a breeze and i could get not very far in scenario 3 cursed oasis. i died there. do i have to redo scenarios 1 and 2 to get more experience points?
2. how do i make my characters stronger in general what to do? train? change occupation? advance time?
3. which is the best party?
-
With respect to the Oasis scenario, where did you die at? There's that dragon you can't hurt. You have to kill the dude instead.
You can repeat the scenarios to level your duders more if you have to.
You can also age your characters to gain more experience. Just make sure you don't age them to the point that they fall over and die. Aging also impacts your jobs, and your chance to resurrect, so there's that.
There is no "best" party.
You want a fighter and a wizard. If you can't do a little bit of everything, you are doomed.
I vote 1 of each thing. I like the elves. They live the longest. Dwarves are lame thematically, but are fairly useful in the game.
Also: high karma = easier leveling!
-
thanks for your help and how do i higher my STATS?
which jobs should i change to? is that important? how to better the equipment?
i think the dessert scenario is too hard for my level 5 characters. i tried the ice caves scenario instead and completed it immediately. is there a special order in which to do the scenarios? i will try the medusa scenario next.
also should one make more characters than only four? i have a fighter, dwarf, wizard and elf. defeating enemies is a pain as whole groups must be destroyed to get the EXP. also which characters to put in which order in the group?
sorry lots of questions..^^
-
The jobs offer various stat differences. I'm sure you could find a chart for it somewhere. They are limited by age and stuff.
I don't recall a special scenario for the game, and my party order was Fighter, Dwarf, Wizard, Elf.
You can train your stats up at the training grounds. It takes like 1 or 2 years of game time and won't do anything if your stats can't be raised.
-
so can you tell me please were those training grounds are? is STATs 10/10 the highest possible?
and does the game have an ending after completing all 10 scenarios?
by the way, did somebody also start the game? ^^
-
10 is the max starting stat, but the maximum grows with age of character.
The place is called "training ground" or something along those lines.
and yes, there is an end, and the ending music is excellent.
I didn't start it. I don't know if I want to trudge through the game again at the moment, lol.
I haven't played it in about 3 years.
-
ah come on, somebody needs to start it also besides me. :)
-
i finished 7 scenarios already (playtime around 10 hours).
only 3 more to go. my characters are all age 39.
hope they all survive the last scenarios and dont die because of high age.^^
-
I think some people will drop and die around 60. The human will, lol.
The elf won't croak at all.
The games pretty f*ckin fun though, yeah? :)
Try the translated MSX2 one afterwards, so you know what's going on!
-
yeah so far its a good game, only the queen mary chapter sucked a little bit. too much backtracking. ^^
are the last 3 scenarios as easy as the 7 before? i still have to do "water of longevity" and the last two.
do i have to make any special preparations before trying those last three? my characters are all level 10-15.
-
I've been too busy to look at this. Let me know if you guys still want the rest of the screens translated.. Looks like your doing OK without them dba :)
-
Not really. The medusa one lets you have 3 characters only but it's still not too hard.
-
ok i beat the game today.
overall it was very easy and i did not really need the different jobs or spells.
great game but too short, especially the PCE-only scenarios.

wow i didn't even get a chance to start :D nice well i'm still looking forward to playing this
-
then start it already. its a very good game and not too hard. ;)
-
ok i think nobody is going to start sorcerian.^^"
by the way iam halfway through la valeur at the moment. ;)
-
nobody tried sorcerian besides me? shame on you. ;)
-

I've not had time recently but I REALLY want to play through this one day.

just do it. ;)
now my memory is quite fresh but in a few months i cannot guarantee to help when you are stuck.
game is not too long either (around 13-15 hours).
