I AM ADDICTED
and that's just by emulating it. I do think this will be my next PCE purchase
I played Don Doko but didn't like it as much, haven't tried Rainbow Islands either.
That's all THANKS!
-
I need to spend more time with it. I used to play it on the Amiga, and I remember it being one of those games that you just 'get' more the more you play it.
-
Don Doko Don looks fun but then you play it and it's like "goddamn this is kinda boring"
It doesn't flow as well. It's still OK, but Parasol Stars bitchslaps the game around.

It's my favorite hu card game. Plenty of replay value too.

It really does. I like the art direction but it just doesn't compare.
I recently tried Bubble Bobble 2 (emu as well of course) and I was quite hooked, but there's just something to Parasol....
obviously, it's the Obey factor. Gotta be it ;)
-
The music is fantastic as well, and I love how frenetic it gets when you start running out of time. And just like most of Taito's other action puzzlers you have to jump through some hoops to get the good ending.
-
yeah, the "hurry up" in the bobble games is legendary stuff.
-
Parasol Stars is one of the penultimate TG-16 games. It's utilizes the amazing color palette, has great tunes and has wicked addictive gameplay that is entertaining to both genders and most age groups (if you are an old curmudgeon and can get over the cute and rainbow-bubbly factor, then it'll rock).
-
yeah, the colors is where it's at. a Megadrive/Genesis no-goer!

One of the best games on the system. Great to play 2 players and compete for top score!
Rainbow Island is shitty compared to Parasol Stars.

Sorry for the off topic tangent, but I've had sigs turned off since everyone went stupid awhile back with obnoxious sigs. Is it safe to turn them back on now?

I'd rather beat up on my shitty friend.

I agree with everyone else. Love this game. One of the few 2 player games I had back in the day, and I played the shit out of it. I also agree it's better than Rainbow Islands. Don Doko Don has been on my want list for a while because it looked vaguely like Parasol Stars. I'm somewhat disappointed to hear it's not as good, but I'll still get it at some point. :)

Giant animated sigs are gone, though sigs still remain mostly pointless.

I second that! Parasol Stars is awesome and much better than Don Doko Don in my book. And the two player-mode is a bomb!
I also advise you to unlock the extra worlds (Bubble Bobble World and Chack'n Pop world) if you can - it is really tricky to do, you have to complete the game with three miracle stars in stock. This is hard because the last world only contains two, so you have to save one before you reach it (at least I think so, never managed to find more that two stars in the last world myself, but maybe a third one exists). These extra worlds also lead to the real ending of the game :)
-
I love parasol Stars. I cleared it a couple of years ago and I had a great time. I love Rainbow Island too but it's true that the PCE version is not as dynamic as PS can be.

There's actually 5 star elements on the final planet and you can get a headstart on collecting them by beating the Boss of the previous planet. The rainbow necklace automagically unlocks secret road for you if you are lucky enough to find it.

AWESOME!

This is what I love about RI, PS and BB. Secrets within secrets.

hoobs88! This is awesome!!!! There are 5 !?!?! Please, please, would you know how to find them all? I would be eternally grateful :D
-
It might actually be 4 (I think there is only room for error to miss 1 star)...I haven't played since topping the leaderboard with my high score but I do recall sometimes stressing to get the final star on the stage with the Revenge of Doh head if I haven't gotten the Rainbow Necklace. I'll try to get some screen shots this weekend to help you out. Getting the red ball of death for the final boss is even more difficult than opening the door to secret road. I've only gotten it 3 times but it instantly transforms him into his second form.

This game needs more YouTube videos, as I obviously have no idea what I am doing.

Half the fun is trying out new stuff. But I hear ya.

I would post some videos but I don't have anything to record the videos with. What do most people use for video capture? I saw another forum member had picked up a Dazzle and was thinking about getting one of those.

You can emulate and vid screen cap. Might be the simplest thing, maybe.

having said that I love the ending to the pce version of RI

I accidentally picked up the 5th star before I could take a photo of it but here are the first 4 stars...(http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e209/hoobs88/DSC05173_zpse5ad9b79.jpg) (http://s40.photobucket.com/user/hoobs88/media/DSC05173_zpse5ad9b79.jpg.html)

Gotta pick up the stunned robot and huck him at the star element (and get the potion along with it but it is impossible to clear the bonus stage)

The Vampire and the Revenge of Doh head do a good job of guarding this star element.
-
Just had a go of this seems really good fun, always wanted it back in the day but could never get my hands on it.
on my list now.
As for don doko don i had this and never really like it to much. not a bad game just a bit boring.

I totally don't remember seeing so many stars in the last world! Thank you so much! I think I'll play the game again this week end :D
I'm curious though, are you playing the US Turbografx-16 version or the original Japanese HuCard?
-
I play the US version. I'm not aware of any differences between the 2 versions.
-
I'm so not even close to that level.
-
Parasol Stars is a great game. Unfortunately very easy to get extra continues.
I got a extremely weird glitch in the game once. After I beat the 1st boss I think, all enemies in the game were frozen in place, not able to move or attack. This included bosses too. I did this for around 3 worlds, and then I got bored and turned off the game...
-
Fantastic game, definitely one of my favorite hucard titles. Unfortunately it got sold many years ago when I needed money, this thread reminds me how badly I need to re-buy it :)
-
I've played Bubble Bobble for years, Rainbow Islands for the first time last weekend, and now there's this... it looks absolutely bat-shit crazy... I MUST HAVE IT!!
-
I played through a couple of games today. Got to 3-3. I think the key is patience. Every time I died, it was something silly I did.
The hidden dynamics, I don't really understand yet. But I think I'm gonna be playing more of this.
