Title: A Visit to "A Gamers Paradise" in Las Vegas Nevada
Post by: EvilEvoIX on May 23, 2013, 08:09:08 PM
While vacationing in Las Vegas this week, I decided to hit up the local classic video game store.  I love that these stores still exist and especially by collectors but almost always prices are way outa line.  Either way this store has a quality collection of classic gaming and free arcade games and kiosks.  They even have an original XBOX that has been modded with classic games in its original kiosk.

That said prices were obtrusive but still worth a visit.

There was actually an article about this place in the local paper.  Nice to see classic gaming is growing in popularity but that also means a price spike.

I looked for this shop when I was in Vegas over a year ago but couldn't find it.  We didn't have a car so we couldn't really get around without using the mono-rail.

Theres actually 2 "A Gamers Paradices" here in town but the only one that has Turbo games and its the one by the strip next to the Pinball Hall of Fame. Agreed they are overpriced and just hope you never have to deal with the owner. Even while I was there donating an arcade game to them the guy was a dick.

The wife and I are going to Vegas the 16th of June and staying at the Venician (sp?).  Is this place wi5thin walking distance of the strip?  We plan on taking a taxi to the Pawn Stars store while we are there.  Any chance they got any gaming stuff?

Nah, its not walking distance but it is a short cab ride. Just tell them to take you to the Pinball Hall of Fame on Tropicana, its right next door.

The pawn stars place (last time I went) didn't have crap for games. Their stock is consistantly changing so anything could happen I guess.

Walking distance?  No, but there is quite a good bus system.  Just get a 3 day unlimited pass for $20, well worth it and it is 6 miles from the Venetian.  Pawn stars is fun and all but the place is not special.  Have the crap in there is just shirts and bobble heads.  You see an item listed "AS SEEN ON PAWN STARS" and then a ridiculous price.  We all loved the Virtual Boy episode, it was selling for $400.

Take the bus to pawn stars, easy and cheap it is right by the Stratosphere.

Your a fan of the owner too huh?  I was in his other store one day and a kid, maybe 8-10, comes in trying to return a CD game that he got a week before because he said it didn't work. The game was scratched up, which it wasn't when it was sold to him.  Instead of the guy having a little customer service skills and treating him like a human being, he started yelling at the little kid.  All he had to do was explain the rules to the kid and tell him no, not yell and scare the kid. Jerk.

He treats customers bad and his employees even worse. And he has a copy of Street fighter  2 for the PC engine for 75$ WTF...

I think it may be sold but if not you are next.  You know how flaky the internet is.

Modify the xbox?  No.  Have tehzz romzz11!?  Maybe, but if you had a copy of each game for each rom then noz.  It's a grey area that is al
It's impossible to enforce.  But if you opened a large service that stated "Bob's ROM O-ROM-A", you may get a few cease and desists.

it's simple math. if you own all the romz on the boxz as an original, then you are legally allowed to use the romz, if you don't own them, then logically not

When I first caught the title of this thread I said to myself, "Dang it, we were just there 3 weeks ago!". Then I read the rest of the thread and realized I dodged a bullet. I would've liked to have known about the pinball joint, though. Oh well, at least I had pancakes at Dupar's!!

Still a great place to visit, the employee I was talking too was nice, many free arcade games just there to play but they are mostly hooked up to HD screens so very pixelated or just MAME.  They did have that SHARP TV with the NES built in, very cool.

I'd say go, but just be prepared for sticker shock.

Well he has a bunch if them and you can just come and play them.  I really like the N64 kiosk which is still a 13"CRT monitor.  But most of the big games have been converted to LCD.
