Title: Going on vacation
Post by: galam on June 08, 2013, 09:22:37 AM
Does anybody have a good travel case suggestion for a TE and about 6 hueys?  I'm kind of OCD about having my stuff well protected and compact when traveling.

Hahahhaha. You'll laugh when you read my suggestions. I'm not joking though, which is sad (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgsad.png).

I'm very careful with all my stuff, but I never got around to buying a hardcase for my TurboExpress...so I used to keep it in a lunch cooler bag (you know, thin padding/insulation, zippered, but with extra foam added).

Anyway, there was no room for power cords and extra stuff, so I took an old bag for carrying a breast pump (yup, breast pump) and use that. It's just big enough for AC adapter, DC adapter, batteries, tons of games. All the compartments are padded/insulated, but I added extra foam to ensconce TurboExpress.[/b][/i]

It turns out that upright baby bottles are the same height as TurboExpress, so a compact travel baby bottle/breast pump bag works nicely.

NO FRILLS SOLUTION: This was best "no cost" solution, since I had tons of these insulated bags. I store my solo PCE in one, too.  REMEMBER: Wipe away the dried breast milk before vacationing.

I have an old carrying case made in the mid-90s specifically for handheld systems. I'm pretty sure I've posted a pic of it here in the past so I'm about to go do some sleuthing...

But when I'm lazy, I find that my old backpack has plenty of compartments to hold the system, games, AC adapter, extra batteries, and stuff for a flight (book, snacks, etc).  It's not as glamorous, but it's pretty functional.

EDIT: Ha!  Found it!  http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=10045.msg179611#msg179611
Come to think of it, that whole thread may provide you with some inspiration!

Great thread, thanks.
Those targus laptop bags are pretty good when it comes to traveling and can be had for under $30 @ newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834995772

Not the correct dimensions for a TurboExpress + 6 games + AC Adapter  (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

What are the dimensions for a Turbo Express at least?  I was just thinking I got this Herfador in a bundle that might make a nice hardcase.

TurboExpress = slightly bigger than two 12oz. formula bottles + nipples.

Isn't there an official turbo express case that was sold through mail order? That thing is pretty sweet but apparently also rare. I just won one in an ebay auction with an express and turbografx 16 stsyem, is it fairly rare?

That's a great hardcase (because of the sweet logo). I don't own one (I want one). I don't think they are common, so consider yourself fortunate  (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png).

If you don't want the case, I guarantee several folks here would be interested in it.

ASIDE: I would get some new foam, of course.

If you get a decent softcase, Gamegear cases can fit a TG16.  I use a Logic 3 GG case for my Nomad and my GT.

doesn't fit a charger (or Megadrive games) but it's not like a charger needs the same protection as a GT.

*edit*, here it is:

You could probably find something cheap that would work at a thrift store. I've bought so many official Nintendo carrying cases at thrifts (all different ones, no less; I don't buy the same one twice) that I'm starting to turn them down, and there's always tons of other various foamy cases that were intended for all sorts of different stuff. I rarely see them priced any higher than $2.99.

I picked up a carrying case for a Mini-disc player back when the GBA LT released that was a perfect fit.  It holds the handheld, AC adapter and at least a half-dozen carts quite nicely.  And it doesn't scream GBA SP AND A BUNCH OF NICE SHIT all over it.
