Title: Rrob78 the Raffle Thief
Post by: vestcoat on June 08, 2013, 11:54:29 AM
I happened to click on the post history for a little piece of shit called rrob78 today when I noticed a disturbing trend: all he does here is enter raffles. He's won about six, but has never hosted any of his own. This alone doesn't warrant damnation, but I thought it would be funny to make a compilation of his endless "enter me!" spam... then it got worse.
Below is a list of raffles he's entered for games and items he already owns. Some of the raffles didn't have a rule against prior ownership, but he clearly violated the most recent raffle on the bottom. The evidence is followed by the original compilation I set out to make.
Basically, he's here to relentlessly profit on our generosity and never give anything in return. He doesn't give two shits about the wishes or restrictions of raffle donors (our most generous members) and he'd rather take a duplicate than let another member play a new game. The f*cker should be banned immediately and I suggest the individuals who still don't set post minimums rethink their requirements.
off the top of my head I found Ys Book 1 & 2, Bonk's Adventure, Bloodwolf, Turrigan, Military Madness & Legendary Axe aside from the Super System Card. Also last Friday, I picked up a TG-16 system with 5 games, China Warrior, Dungeon Explorer, World Class Baseball, Legendary Axe, Keith Courage.
Want to thank you Bernie for having this contest, first contest I entered ( & wasn't kicked out of, lol) and won, , got Splash Lake last week, forgot to reply it on here, but did pm's you, also thanks for the extra's.

Holy f*ck. Sad. I won two raffles here and then decided not to enter any more because I didn't want to be a leech. Hey Rob, go f*ck yourself!

Are Syphic and Rrob78 the same person? Or why would Syphic hook Rob up with Ninja Spirit twice and why would Rob accept a gift from a friend he if he doesn't need it?!? It reads like a charade:
They write the same, they're supposedly friends, and they both enter most raffles (Syphic always says "count/toss me in", rob always says "sign me up").

Except the youtube videos that showed the two of them this is totally plausable.

syphic and rrob aren't the same person. rrob may not be as active in the forums, and it does appear he has entered quite a few raffle, but I can speak on his behalf. He is actually a really cool guy to deal/trade with, and is as against re-sellers just as much as anyone else here. I cannot speak on his behalf on rules broken entering certain raffles, as I simply don't know enough about it. I am friends with both him and syphic on Facebook, and they have formed a group of course, it's for MANY consoles. I was able to obtain a USA System 3.0 card from him, complete, for a really good price right here in the forums. Like I said, I am not familiar with the entire raffle situation, but I can tell you rrob is a really good guy to have here.

So I've entered & win raffles. I'm always giving away my doubles to my friends that don't have games that have just gotten into playing the Turbo. Syphic is one of them we always hook each up, he did hook me up with a copy of Ninja Spirit but I gave it away to my friend who got a turbo with no games. The. I saw that one was getting raffles away, so I entered it. But that's cool if you all don't like me. Think what you want. So whom ever said f*ck me. It's cool.

I've even given away games from my own collection to help ppl out who just got into playing the Turbo, But l do apologize for any wrongs I've done. I'm just doing what I can to get More ppl to enjoy the Turbo Graphx. Even gotten them to join this great forum.

Hey, it's nice that Bernie has spoke up for you rrob but if you are such a great guy you should know better. If you have friends that are into the tg16 scene then why are they not signed up here? Sorry man as maybe you are a stand up guy but that shit bugs me, I have friends as well that are into the tg16 scene but if they cannot bother to sign up and enter themselves then I don't think they deserve to be in the raffle.

Yea, some have signed up. But your right, I do apologize for over stepping my own bounds. You've been a cool guy to me, I bought some of your Sparky Labels, which I'm glad to have them. I guess I'm too nice of a guy trying to help other ppl. Bums me out that some ppl think I'm a raffle thief, but it's ok. I'm know doing my best to support the forum outside of here.

It's all good man, but these are community raffles.... For the people here in the community. Hey just the way I see it.
Title: Re: Rrob78 the Raffle Thief
Post by: vestcoat on June 08, 2013, 02:07:25 PM
So I've entered & win raffles. I'm always giving away my doubles to my friends...
You don't get it: you've not only won raffles, you've accepted generosity while spitting in the face of the giver and ignoring their rules. You've disrespected people who gave you things for free.
And for a guy that supposedly gives away lots of games, it's funny that you've never done so around here. Also funny that you've posted WTB's for jewel cases and stuff to complete partial games. You're a collector.
Bernie, I never said Rob was a heartless monster incapable of friendship, I said he was a f*cking thief. I'm not looking for character references and don't claim plausible deniability: you don't have to know anything about his history, just look at the evidence and decide for yourself. It's all in my first post; he owned Ninja Spirit, then he won a loose copy in a raffle, then he admitted to still owning his first copy while waiting to receive his raffle prize. He also entered Munchiaz' raffle against the rules.
I'm know doing my best to support the forum outside of here.
And how might that be? As far as these boards go, you've written scarcely a post outside of the sale forum or longer than one sentence.

If you knew Rrob78 you'd know he isn't a scammer or snake. He always hook a brotha up and that's why I have no problem hooking him up with any doubles I may have no questions asked. He loves to do stuff for the gaming community. He didn't have to waste his time this past weekend renting out 12+ tables and chairs and picking them up and delivering them on his own time to the SC3 event this past week just to do it and he wasn't getting paid or anything. And he may not be the most knowledgeable person about all things Turbo and may not post a ton but he's here listening and learning. Shit I know! He's always pestering me about all the different games and what they are like lol.

Don't know what your definition of "scammer" is, just that Rob entered five raffles for games he already owned and we don't even know the extent of his collection.

Ya? I see your raffle post and rrobs and instead of a regular raffle you take cheap shots being called out and vestcoat and myself and others had every right to. Fine that's the way its going to be.

In all honestly, I don't see this as a problem unless the person doing the raffle has some sort of rule and/or beef with said person entering. I will say I have entered many raffles and plan to do some more to give back to the community probably sooner rather than later. :) Maybe if I win two Laseractives and post one up for a raffle here? Hmm...

rrob, I know you said anyone can enter your raffle, but you really ought to consider imposing some loose guidelines for weeding out "raffle-only" "members". Ensuring the game lands in the hands of an individual who contributes to the community at large is what really resonates with folks around here.
Just some friendly advice.

Rob and Syphic: Your begrudging, last-minute raffles are very cute. Way to change your tune when the mob's at the gate! Kind of like a life-long atheist repenting on death's door.
Rob: rather than whining objections about being called a thief, how about you man up and apologize OR try to refute the evidence. Please, either one. I'm serious.
In all honestly, I don't see this as a problem unless the person doing the raffle has some sort of rule and/or beef with said person entering.
True, some members don't care. At least Fenix said he didn't care if his winner was an owner. That said, I think I can safely speak for most of us by saying that the joy of giving comes from the happiness in others. Nothing's better than seeing someone excited about a game I don't need.
The reason I'm ragging on poor old Rob is because he perpetually capitalized on altruism to hoard items he already has. Seeing him makeup bullshit about how he "can't wait to play Alien Crush!" when he already owned it makes me sick.
Let's review: *Rob's participation has been virtually nil since he joined nine months ago. *Estimated 90% posts in the sale forums, 70% being nothing more than "sign me up" "thanks!" & "congrats!" *He entered approximately 42 raffles *14 explicitly forbid dupes/reselling *5+ of the 42 raffles were for games he already owned. We'll never know the real total. *He violated the "no dupes" rule of at least 1 member (munchiaz) *He violated the "active member/active outside sale forum" requirement of four other members. *He won perhaps 6 raffles. *He hosted 0 raffles, despite his gushing gratitude for the community, his generous spirit, and "always giving away lots of games" outside of PCEFX.

STATUS: Not to add fuel to this fire (obviously, I want greedy bastards to own up to their greedy ways)...but it is important to state the obvious: whether there are "official" limitations on a raffle or not, vestcoat's main point is correct...a person will be judged by his actions, so it is in his/her best interest NOT to violate the spirit of raffles and goodwill of the community.
Personally, I agree with vestcoat: raffles are for spreading TG-16 love. THAT MEANS SOMEONE WANTS TO PLAY THE DAMN GAME.
NOT, "Oh, if I win this raffle, it will be nice trade bait" NOT, "Yes! I'll sell this after I futz around with it for 15 minutes" NOT, "This raffle prize is one more artifact I can add to my collection*" NOT, "I deserve this, even though I own it."
*New folks should note that I make a distinction between a "library" (where the purpose of a game is to be used/played/enjoyed) VERSUS a "collection" (where the primary purpose of a game is to be "a material possession"). Obviously, I know that I ruffle feathers with my anti-collector stance, and, in reality, most folks have a mixture of both... (now you know why I make time for playing the less-than-stellar titles I own: all games need some love). HOWEVER, I STILL LOVE YOU, EVEN IF YOUR SOLE JOY IS IN COLLECTING. I just think you should let other folks win the raffles. That's all. We really can all live in relative harmony. (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)
BOTTOM LINE: Don't be greedy. And...I believe in giving folks a chance to rectify things. It builds a stronger community. (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcds.png)

Usually people with low number of posts do this. I've seen in a few raffles people with 14-15 posts, 12 of which are for entering raffles. That is, imo, unfair to other people that contributes to other parts of the forum.

im active here as much as a lot of you guys, but some of you know me from other forums or have met me at octurbofest or other meetups.
i know (and have met) rrob. he is a good guy and his heart is in the right place. he spreads the 'obey' word with the best of them, just maybe not as much here. he's a generous dude who gets a lot of people started with nec stuff. maybe he was a little overzelous with all the raffle entries, but it seems like he is trying to make up for this 'infraction'.
and for the record i do a lot of raffles (elsewhere) that he has entered of mine and he has never won. so i hope that lowers his winning percentage a bit. i also openly mock him for never winning any of mine.

If rrob would've been posting in the forums outside of sale/raffle threads we might've known that. It's usually common courtesy to butt the f*ck out of a raffle thread if you already own the game. That way you can "spread the love of turbo" to someone that (I don't know) doesn't own the game. I hate to see stuff like this happen to members that are more than likely cool outside of the forums. However, how the hell do we know that if they never really post? Also, maybe people giving raffles should be a little more aware of members entering when they have certain rules.

Dudes, this has little to do with post counts and overzealous entries. This is about Rob's lying, hording, all round "f*ck you" when it came to the wishes of the people giving away their games.
Soop: I'm willing to give him a second chance too, but it's going to take more than a reactionary "suck it vestcoat!" raffle. I want him to come clean and apologize to the donors he lied to and the noobs he jumped in front of to pick up duplicates.
Cdamm: Rob's actions speak a lot louder than your words. Before you put "infraction" in quotation marks or make unverifiable comments his generosity, try to address ANY of this evidence. I dare you:

I'm inclined to side with Vest on this. He's made a good point, and you already know how I feel about raffle leeching (see deadman incident). I mean, that does not mean rrob78 cant fix the situation, but the fact is this was definitely worth posting to point out to the public and needed to be addressed. It's cool he is giving items out to friends, but unless you are directly giving back to active members here who post often or hold their own raffles then it is rather lame to enter multiple raffles never having held one yourself. For for that matter signing up for games you already own. At this point I'd say ban rrob78 from joining raffles for the next 2 months, and in the mean time hold three himself for people here. That would do a lot to fix the damage that has taken place.

rrob, it's clear that your heart is in the right place based on the folks who have posted positively about you and what you've said in your defense, assuming it's not bs. However, you still seem to be missing the unwritten intention of these raffles.
Maybe I'm wrong, but it is assumed that people here that raffle stuff are raffling off to the community here. Meaning we want these games to stay in our community.
And what gets under the elder community members' skin is people who have a low post count (especially if it is comprised of raffle entries) taking off with raffles meant for this "family".
We're a pretty intense group and tend to go out of our way to help each other out. So when new folks come in here and only sign up for raffles, it rubs us the wrong way. And by you offering up a raffle up to ANYONE, regardless of post count or involvement with the community, it just reinforces that you're not grokking where we're coming from.
So some of us long-timers find humor in the irony of your raffle. :)

To be honest the only people who should be entering the things are ones who actually contribute here. If you're going to give your games away in raffles to 10 post know nuthins who have not done shit around here then it really doesn't fix the problem you created Rob. The actual community still doesn't benefit and it ends up being no different really then when you were supposedly signing up on raffles and giving shit to friends. It also gives the impression you may be trying to rig your own raffles when they are going to mystery members with no background here. Keep it clean, play it straight and make it limited to people who do shit around here, or get the f*ck out already because no one here cares for empty handed bs.

rgghhh.... As much as I hate to say it, it's true. You can give your shit away to whomever you want, but ultimately, if you're gonna stick around, I see it as more of a short term trade. Don't get me wrong, I've given away more than I've got, and I don't expect to see it back - hell, the stuff I raffle is pretty low value eBay wise.
However, even given the hate I get on here, I'd rather see shit go to the community - even people that I dislike and hate on me - than some random guy that joins up for free shit. Law of entropy or whatever, this is a closed system. I consider it my way of contributing back to people like Beamer, Chops, Ghost Samurai, Bernie, Esteban, Nando - people, who in their own different way, contribute in a way that I can't.
I think if you can't (and no disrespect meant to most) enter yourself only in raffles you're genuinely interested in, and avoid winning something you're not gonna play*, but take it from someone who potentially will, there needs to be a groundrule imposed on you. And unfortunately, for some (not all) newbies, and a few less scrupulous older members that seems to be the case.
For all that I disagree with a few on here... not morally, not quite ettiquette... Some guys can be rude as f*ck, but they'll always behave appropriately when it comes to transactions. If you see what I mean? Anyway, I'm wasted, so whatever.
* there will be an addendum to that.

I'm a raffle some other games off, I'll set up better rules. But as far as me entering raffles, I won't anymore.

Posts like this mean much more to me than holding raffles, especially raffles that attack other forum members, as far as mending fences goes.
But joining in Turbo discussions goes much further in general, than raffles, buy/sell/trading, etc... when it comes to being a member of the PCEFX community (which is not the same as being active in the overall PCE community).

wow really?? vest coat, apparently you are just jealous and mad just cuz rrob won some raffles and you dont? i honestly think you are being childish about this whole situation. You can call me what you want but im sticking up for rrob. He is, not only an awesome member of the video game and turbo community but he also helps out others getting into the turbo scene, myself included. Vestcoat, if you really had a problem with this, you should have just messaged rrob and resolved this issue in a professional matter, not being a little crybaby and taking the time to look through all of his posts and his history to use against him. You are nothing but a little snitch and if I get kicked out of this group for this post, then so be it. But rrob is a kickass dude who doesn't deserve your ignorant judgement and he shouldn't have to do no raffle just so you can stop crying. you are pathetic

No one here knows you or cares what you think on the matter. With 6 post under your belt you don't even begin to represent this community or its general opinion concerning such matters. This matter is for the people who have been here giving this forum life. You don't count, and wont until you put some time and post in. And so that we are clear on this, of your first 6 post, 5 have to do with the marketplace, buying shit and entering a raffle. You are exactly the type we don't want entering raffles.

that's fine. i don't care what people think about what i have to say and i know i am a new member to this community but if someone is going to attack a friend of mine for what ever reason, you expect me to just witness it and stay quiet? nope sorry! and dude, did i ever say that i am representing this community? i think this matter is for anyone to say what ever they feel like, newcomers and veterans. I just wanted to give my two cents about this topic because it involves a good friend of mine and you guys got him hella twisted thinking he is a thief.

Yeah I do, You opinion doesn't matter, and if you were a friend of his, a real one, you would stfu right now, because you butting in makes him look worse. He doesn't need anyone white knighting for him. You will just end up ranting to yourself and ruining whatever shot you have of being a valued member here. Some advice, worry less about this thread, let alone the market place, and start doing something here that counts. Otherwise you are a waste of ours, and your, time.

Your way off base. Tight communities like this have rules for a reason. Its to prevent random strangers from coming in and treating the place like there personal playground. Its admirable to want to defend a friend and all, but he did break the rules a little bit (albiet not intentionally it seems) and he took some flak for it. Its done, move on time. Your mistake is your joining the party late suffering from diarrhea of the mouth and constipation of the brain. The matter as it seems is all but closed, and your just making it worse. Its not like Rob was thrown out or anything. He's still welcome as are you. Take the Professors advice as he's dead right. Stop now and contribute while you can. Just my two cents.

HercTNT, thank you for being at least reasonable with me and not trying to be rude like the professor. Well, you can reply, you just gotta be careful what you say. You don't know anyone here yet, but you can. I don't agree with everything that goes on around here either, but thats just the way it goes sometimes. Maybe Vest could have tempered his response, but lately we have had a huge influx of a$$holes just trying to use the place as a toilet. As far as the professor goes, you got him all wrong. I can't speak for him, but trust me when i say he was giving you fair warning. Its not personal, he's just not a huge fan of people throwing on there elve slippers and cape and zip line in to save the day.

Comrade, sometimes we may be a bit too dramatic, or harsh, but most of us are willing to give people a chance to redeem themselves.
I don't want to rehash everything, but we are not disputing that rrob78 might very well be an upstanding, passionate and generous person outside of this forum.
Whether or not you think it is fair, rrob78's behavior in this forum has been scrutinized. I don't think he's an evil bastard, I'm not holding a grudge against him...but, for better or worse, rrob78 is part of our attempt, as a community, to draw the lines on what is acceptable behavior.
My hope is that, everyone with bruised (or inflated) egos will find a way to coexist. We don't have to be best friends, but I'd love for all of us to enjoy our time here. Sure, there will always be some drama/conflict...but I hope we are strong enough to get past this garbage. I know we can.

Welcome to the forums cr8zykuban0 and thanks for speaking your mind. I could have avoided some of the profanity earlier, but the charges stand and there's really no excuse for what Rob did. I publicized it because it was of general concern - he violated the trust and rules set forth by at least four members.
Anyway, it was for the best. Rob seems to be coming to his senses and trying to do better. Conflict is a good thing. If RoyVegas can earn a modicum of tolerance around here, anyone can.

Since this forum is full of great people I raffle a almost full set of Sparky labels, to all those that contact me about the games and wanted to help THANK YOU!!
I won't be needing these in the future and since Roy gave me some great advice in the future I will be buying lose games instead.
Rules Just be an active member in here Post dont matter
cr8zykuban0's fourth post, one and a half months after his first:
The first 3 posts were all asking to buy Neo Geo games. His 5th posts was a couple days after the raffle entry and was again about buying Neo Geo games. It was also his last post until today, when he came in to attack vestcoat without actually addressing any of Rrob78 actions in the forum.

If you have a problem with this post cr8zykuban0, take a moment and re-read it until it makes sense. Then actually read what vestcoat posted, particularly the factual examples which cannot be disputed. Your "support" of your buddy, especially given your history here after rrob tipped you off, has only made him seem tens times worse in this situation. Again, if this doesn't make sense to you, please take the time to read this entire thread and try to think with your mind instead of your heart.
That is your opinion, that's fine and all but i joined this community cuz rrob and syphic told me there were some real cool people here and there were, but people like you make me sick. [-X
If you truly did come to this PC Engine/TurboGafx-16/PC-FX community to discuss PCE/Turbo/PCFX with cool people, then why not begin doing so and become a true member of this communuty? Hopefully Rrob78 will do the same and eventually your taking goods out of the community activity will be eclipsed by your contribution to discussion in a forum.
You'd be surprised by how forgiving and willing to forget that most active members are around here when someone stops negative behavior and genuinely contributes in an ongoing basis. But ignoring what really happened and lashing out with the kind of language you have used is only counterproductive.
