This happens with every update. My console is always fine.

Updated 2 systems no problem

I swear this shit is started by the same people every firmware update. I'd wager XBOX fanboys trying to bring Sony down.
Sony tests the shit out of firmware before releasing it. They would test it out on every version of every console they've manufactured with stock and upgraded hard drives. Hell, I bet they even test it out on the PSOne and PS2. Stuff like this is tested out the wazoo before it's released to the wild.
Would you want to be the guy that says "Yeah, the firmware is good. I tested it out on this console. You can release it to the millions of PS3 users."? No way do they not confirm this stuff is good and then confirm it again and again...

I did the latest one and i haven't had a problem yet.Hmm knock on wood i hope  I say this because i want to download dungeons&dragons soon,it is out now on psn.

Yeah. i figured there would be no issues, but just in case

Yeah it's crap try to play Netflix for the kids and mandatory software update then mandatory update for Netflix.

Sony pulled the update, so it must be more than just pro-MS propaganda.

Sounds like the issue affects "upgraded" hard drives, which Sony can't fully test for. This is the type of thing that is supposed to sepparate consoles from PCs, so it's not surprising that this one exceotion is causing firmware issues.
Even if it's only 1% of PS3 owners, that's still a lot if people and if you are affected it will be a much bigger deal to you than if you happened to never have any problems.

The update is back up. The issue was with 1TB HDD swapouts. Sony should really test for this stuff. I mean there are a lot of variables I'm sure they do test out, but I'm sure they'll tack this one onto their list now too.

IS it safe yet?

I got the update and my PS3 still works fine without any issues. Same thing as Duo_R though, I was mainly just updating because I wanted to watch Netflix.
