So here we go. Le clash des clashs. The PC Engine vs. The Rest! :P
In case your choice would not fall into the flavor of the PC Engine, please name your system of choice below (only one allowed).
So it's either the PC Engine (one out of its whole family) or something other than the PC Engine, and nothing else!
Systems that can run (PC Engine) emulators do not count. Resp. they do count, but not for this particular reason (so no "yo watch mee dooz, i has choosan PSP, it can run yur pc engine..hurryaaa" nonsense).
Without further ado, let the Game begin :)
-
Um, duh.
-
I vote for the Wii! Because it um...plays...Wii games! ;)
-
If I had to choose only one console to play, other than PC Engine, I'd go for Genesis/Mega Drive. Hopefully I'd be allowed to include CD games. Even better if SMS games count too, since the system runs the roms without additional hardware or emulation. But even if only Genesis cart games count, it would be my first choice after PCE, although neck and neck with SMS.
-
For me it has always been about the SNES. I wanted one so bad as a kid but never got it. It truly was the pinnacle of 16 bit technology. Some many great games that I would never get bored. It has and will always be my most coveted system.
-
This was an easy question for me:)
-
SNES was great and I loved it back in the day, but it's processor was sure slow as shit. I still have yet to figure out how Beam Software made Smash TV on SNES with no slowdown.
As much as I loved all the 16 bit systems I'd probably go with the Sega Saturn. Princess Crown, Gekirindan, Batsugun, Panzer Dragoon games, Astal, all the cps2 fighters, Elevator Action Returns, Soukyugurentai, Gunbird, Sengoku Ace, Psychic Killer Taromaru, Darius Gaiden, Sakura Wars, Grandia, tons of others.
-
hmmmmmm. I really like the PCE. it holds a special place for me. For me this isn't even a question. OBEY THE PCE!
IN the spirit of the question though: I would take a SNES or Genesis too if the PCE didn't exist. If forced to choose something else I'd pick the genesis. BUT honestly I don't want to choose. I hate answering this question outside of the PCE I like playing everything, and finding new games I never knew about. I mean until a few months ago I had never played the Genesis. Man I missed out on a lot.
Note: I don't have experience with other systems than a few plays with many other systems I'm sure people might choose Mainly:
Saturn, Dreamcast, Neo Geo, PS3, xbox, xbox360
-
If I could only play one system ever again, it would be the original Playstation. It's very nostalgic for me, as it was the first console that I bought as an adult, with my own money. It's also easy to find games for and (in my opinion) there's tons of good ones. Definitely my favorite system to collect for, and I also still play the shit out of it.

Turbo Duo über alles
-
Someone isn't voting. We testimonials for SNES, Saturn, PS, and Wii, but only two votes for "someone else." Get it together people!
-
PCE 4 LYFE
-
Of course I voted PCE, but Famicom/NES is right up there!
-
The Laseractive for the sheer fact that it has got 25 pounds of power behind it. Not to mention you can make every Laseractive game into a 2 player frisbee game!
-
What ever is the flavor for the month for me.That being pce,genesis,neo-geo,sfc,famicom or the PS3 i'm sure not loyal to any kingdom or country  :P
-
Saturn/PS1 (one does need both - and they're cheap enough).
Really like the PCE, but I'm a sucker for 32-bit graphics.
Like, really a sucker for 32-bit graphics. :P

if i could only have one it would be dreamcast

if i could only have one it would be dreamcast
With your genesis avatar how can you place the dc above that !?
-
I don't really know, it could be the PC Engine but also something that plays a lot of stuff + PCE. Hard decision.

So you love your mega drive even more than the PCE?
-
it's honestly a tossup.
N64 vs. DC for me.
ultimately though, i'd probably pick DC, just so many really good games vs. the handful of great games and the rest being pretty much shit on n64.
-
Lol, N64? In all honesty?

It must be due to age. It has to be. Otherwise, he would definitely be saying Famicom/NES.

I choose the Sega Genesis. I enjoy the TG16/PCE immensely, but the Genesis was the first console I bought after a few years of playing mostly NES and it captured my time and attention more than any other generation. The leap in graphics and sound were significant and I built some of my fondest gaming memories during that era.
Game series like Sonic the Hedgehog, Toe Jam & Earl, Shining Force, Phantasy Star, Thunder Force, Streets of Rage, Road Rash, Lunar, the Strike games, and some excellent single entries (Castlevania: Bloodlines, Dynamite Headdy, Gunstar Heroes, Strider, Aladdin, Herzog Zwei, Crusader of Centy, Liberty or Death, General Chaos, way too many more to list) kept the Genesis fresh and interesting over the years and I never ran short of great games to play on it. The Genesis library boasts literally hundreds of games that appeal to me. Likely no other console, except the original Playstation, bears this distinction.
Due to its FM chip, the Genesis wasn't a favorite for many when it comes to its sound, but it is for me (I dig the quirky, mechanical, and oftentimes cold and brash sounds of it). When I realized what it takes to coax a particular sound from this type of synth, I began even more to appreciate a lot of my favorite games' soundtracks and effects, as well as the effort put forth in creating them. He's sited a lot, and with good reason, but Yuzo Koshiro was creating sounds on this thing that really stood alone at the time. But even the more simplistic and "vanilla" sounds (by comparison) from other Genesis games still sound great to me and my ears always perk up when I hear a Genesis track or sound effect!
Finally, I love the controller and its evolution over the years. The 6-button Genesis game pad stands side-by-side with the 2nd generation US Saturn 'pad as the two best and most comfortable controllers I've ever used. It's quick, responsive, and I find it works well in all genres, including fighting games (never had any trouble executing 1/4 circle and half circle moves, etc). If I could, I'd use one on every console I own, when appropriate.
I don't discriminate. I own all of the wide-release (and some not so wide-release) US and import consoles from the 80s to the 90s and I play all of them at some point or other. They all have their place and each has games that rank among my favorites, but the Genesis was "it" for me for a long time and has permanently captivated 11-year old me, somewhere in my subconscious.
-

I really am le dumb since I did not read the first post. At first I thought you were talking about forum rules haha.
Anyway, it's a hard decision but I guess I would take a Sony Playstation 2... it has an enourmous library... and many, many great games of all genres. Or this or the Duo + Arcade Card (+ a Sys 1.0 card to be able to rise from the grave).

Well then,if i had to choose just one console by sega id go with the saturn. That console hit the sweet spot for me far as 2d go's

truth be told, i know for a fact that many of you have 10+ years on me in terms of age.
and admittedly, MOST of the games on 64 are shite.
that said, there's plenty to enjoy on the system, and some games that i don't think anyone who calls themselves a "gamer" can avoid.

I love that only one vote was cast for "I am EvilXEVoIX". Hopefully that was actually him. :P
-
Haha! No that was me.
-
For me, unfortunately, I'd have to pick the Genesis/Mega Drive over the PC Engine. There are simply more games on it that I like. I came this close to choosing the PCE on Soldier Blade alone, though.
However, I voted that I'm EvilEvoIX. :/

Yes yes you are.

And what games in particular could that be?
Do you f.e. also like MD raiden over PCE raiden?

No, PCE Raiden is my favorite version. And you really wanna know? Well, rather than list all the games I like on the genny, I'll pick my favorites from both the PCE and the MD. Some of these I don't actually have, but have played via emulation.
Genesis:
Alien Soldier
Battle Frenzy/Blood Shot
Shinobi III
Thunder Force IV
Ranger X
Darius II (I don't care for the PCE version)
Outlander (don't hate)
Burning Force
Beyond Oasis
Virtua Racing
Gunstar Heroes
MUSHA
The Ninja Warriors
Stellar Assault
PCE:
Soldier Blade
Sapphire
Ninja Spirit
Super Darius/Darius Plus (I'd take either)
Bloody Wolf
Dracula X
Genpei Toumaden
After Burner
Cadash
Raiden
I hope you guys understand I'm not bashing the PCE when I say stuff like that. I adore my PCE. It's just that the Genesis has more, cheaper titles that I like than teh obey. The cheapest PCE game I've ever bought was $15, and I could get like 3 Genesis games for that much.
-
I sure love my Duo, but if I had to pick only 1 system to spend the rest of my days with it would have to be the Neo. There's just too much nostalgia tied up in it for me to give it up if that had to be my only choice!

That's interesting because I bought Genpei Toumaden last year for $11 shipped from Japan. It was my second PCE game I ever bought and I only got it because it was cheap and I just wanted it to test my Duo with as I wanted to make sure the problems weren't with the two games I did have.

Damn seriously!? I have yet to find a copy for under $15, without shipping! Granted, I haven't been looking for very long. There WAS a copy someone here was selling for $3, but SOMEONE beat me to it! ;)

:-k hmm.. thats a strange list. I see a Sapphire, but no Gate of Thunder, no Winds of Thunder, no Seirei Senshi Spriggan, no Nexzr, no Star Parodier ..etc? which form the very toptier "almost" exclusive shoot'em ups on the system.

Easy choice...PC Engine.

Winds of Thunder looks kind of cool, but the others don't appeal to me enough to pay the prices they go for. And as for Star Parodier...it takes a lot to get me to like a cute-em-up. So far, Fantasy Zone is the only one that I've really liked. I love cute stuff, but as far as video games go, I'd typically rather play something semi-serious.
Also, the Genesis has more not-shmups that I like than the PCE.

Great post in so many ways. I really enjoy the FM sound but agree that if done bad it sounds like a bunch of farts or a blown sub-woofer with a bunch of washers bouncing around on top. It's a very clear sounding system, especially Model 1 units.
For me it would be the Neo Geo AES.
First having a stack of Neo games itself is just appealing and the DEPTH of gameplay especially in the fighters is almost unmatched. Such a chess game with these games and since they were designed to rob you of quarters it's you against the machine right off the bat, it's not your friend, it's there to rob you and do it quickly. I'd like to master a lot more of the fighters, and 1CC some Metal Slug series. It goes without saying 2 player battles even with something as mutinous as Windjammers (Flying Power Disc) can just go on for hours.

You better be careful with those opinions, some people go ape shit over those thoughts and post miles of still pictures.

Do you not know how to use the edit button? Its considered nice to not have a$$holes clog threads with doublepost.

My vote's for OBEY or GTFO! 'Tis a given.
You better be careful with those opinions, some people go ape shit over those thoughts and post miles of still pictures.
Like the scorpion, you just can't help yourself.
-
Tough question.
I guess it's easy to get nostalgic about shit and remember golden moments, irrespective of when they happened.
I personally have a LOT of really great memories of the PSP. But if I had to choose ONE system, do I want one that I know so much about already? I mean I've played (and enjoyed) a LOT of PC Engine games in my time, but I still get stoked when I find quirky little games like Echoshift.
Truth be told, I can't answer. I know that if I could save one console from a fire, it would be my PC Engine combo, maybe my SGX. But if I went to jail or something and I could take one with me? Might even be my 360.
-
My desert island system would probably be the Genny/MD, with the Saturn probably being the more logical choice due to the depth and quality of the library. Simply a nostalgia choice, if I grew up with the TG-16 I'd probably be saying that.

When I first got my Game Boy B&W my dad sat on the can for 2 hours straight playing it. When he got up his butt and legs were asleep so he had to stumble around the room to work it out while my mom laughed her ass off at him.
My favorite game I used to plan on the crapper was TMNT:Fall of the Foot Clan :)

STATUS: As I think about it more and more...I think the Famicom/NES might be the console I'd want. In my earlier post, I said FC/NES was a close second...but I think it's in the lead. The sheer number of amazing games for FC/NES is the reason why it crushes all other platforms.
I feel bad for betraying my beloved FC/NES! (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgsad.png)
Of course, had I initially voted for FC/NES, this post would be about how the PCE should have gotten my vote.
I CAN'T DECIDE BETWEEN THE TWO! (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

Naw I just need one here. Why go through the trouble any more? I am still trading on most video game forums and I got a stack of games coming to me from this site soon enough.
