Title: PC Engine Translations
Post by: wyndcrosser on July 03, 2013, 05:52:40 AM
I've got a few projects under my belt, but it's always nice to work on something new and take a break from another project. I'm looking to do some PC Engine and Wonderswan translating/hacking, are there any titles anyone is interested in that haven't been done yet?

My current projects are:

Virtual Fishing - Virtual Boy
Virtual Lab - Virtual Boy
Biomotor Unitron 2 - Neo Geo Pocket Color
Ogre Battle - Neo Geo Pocket Color
Cool Cool Jam - Neo Geo Pocket Color

about 6-10 NES titles (almost all are about 90% done, waiting for title screen hacking).

Unless I had some extra help, an RPG isn't quite what I was looking to do, I have five of those already in my "case load". lol.

sounds great, I love all the PC Engine fan translations that have been done so far.
In particular one springs to mind, the fan translation of "Bubblegum Crash! Knight Sabers 2034" has resulted in it becoming one of favourite HuCard titles.

I'll have a think then get back with some game suggestions.

How about doing some easy ones, like some of the shoot-'em-ups or platformers which don't have a lot of actual translating to do?  Stuff like Sapphire (http://www.pcengine.co.uk/HTML_Games/Sapphire.htm) or Doraemon: Nobita's Dorabian Night (http://www.pcengine.co.uk/HTML_Games/Doraemon_II.htm)?

Huh. That's not a bad idea. I actually wouldn't mind knowing what the hell was going on in Sapphire!

I've wanted English Tengai Makyou games for, uh, ever now...

Ogre Battle - Neo Geo Pocket Color

I tried playing that game a long while ago.  With no kanji at all I couldn't figure out where words were easily enough to bother.

Sapphire would be a great idea!  I also would love to know what the story is in that game.

On another note though, hopefully somebody eventually does Nige-Ron-Pa for NGPC.

How about starting with games that are 80% English already and go from there? Like the Wizardry games or something else? There is even a thread I got stickied on this.

Yeah, I'm not huge fans of 1st person dungeon crawlers, but the Wizardry's would be a good idea regardless, I would like to see them translated.

Does Brandish have a lot of text?  It seems like it might not, maybe that could be a candidate?

I'll look into it, I've never done a CD game before, so Brandish might be interesting.

Its sad how very few translations are made for our beloved system. I'd like to see World Cup Soccer Kunio Kun translated, cant be much text

I have Startlying Odyssey 2 on disc since day 1. Engrish but it works. Just got the Ys redub. I have Neutopia 100% spanish if anyone is interested.

There is a  Devilman RPG on the Hucard someone started on in 2009 but seems to have quit no news since.

CD games are a whole different game (pun intended), than just the base system. The biggest problem that people tend to run into for CD translations, is finding free space (ram). And if that free space will always be there through out the game :/ I soooo wanted to make a new system card, just for translations. Hell, even if all it contained was an extra 8k of ram. That would be awesome (and no, the Arcade Card doesn't provide what is needed). Though, if it's a CD 2.0 game, you can always easily 'rom expand' it to a SCD 3.0 and use the extra 192k. In that situation, it's pretty nice. I did that for Dave Shadoff on his Cosmic Fantasy I translation project. Of course, there's always the option to 'SGX' expand it. The SGX has an additional 24k of ram, that no CD game with ever touch. And for emulation, that's no problem. But for people burning a CD-r of it... well, at least I have an SGX+SCD+ACD :P

Heh, I had no problems reading that. My spanish is getting better. I might actually play through this, for fun (and practice).
