Was looking at this one today and noticed the little pink Macross/Bigwest label is actually raised. It looks like a sticker or something. Why would they spend the extra money to print a non-standard insert, knowing it'd be forever hidden behind the plastic? Is that sticker hiding something?

That JASRAC emblem is a sticker as well... you'll find such stickers on officially licensed games, CDs, etc. Look at any Japanese game with Disney characters in it; the box will always have a "Mickey Mouse" sticker to prove that it's an official licensed item. Also, providing stickers separately that have to be stuck on the game package is how the licensor can track sales and thus royalties.

You're right about the JASRAC one, I didn't even catch that!
I just checked about 10-15 other CD games and didn't see any stickers like this. Any other titles you know offhand that came with 'em?

It's the same sticker that went on a lot of Macross items in that era. They used to put them on Gundam stuff but now they usually just have a printed square on the box that looks like a sticker. Tradition, I guess.
Every FIFA game for the last 15+ years has had a sticker like this. I'm pretty sure most NFL, NHL, NBA, etc games do too.

The slip case box for the Japanese Magic Knight Rayearth Limited Edition has a raised Kodansha sticker and Jasrac sticker on the back. I would assume the Standard edition does as well.
