Hello.
My brother has a DUO-R that is having problems playing CD games.
The discs spin up but the system says to please set the disc.
Has anyone experienced this and can give any insight as to what might be wrong with the system?

Either the CD lens has gone bad or the lens needs a slight adjustment. %50 of the time on a duo-R all you have to do is slightly raise the lens gain using the potentiometer on the CD lens itself.

Thank you for the reply. We have to get the proper bit to get the system open.
Then we can try to adjust the gain.

Just use a hammer, or a hair dryer... :)

Sorry to hi jack the thread but I got another duo-r yesterday with a similar issue it does play discs 90% of the time but the drive makes a clicking sound on start up. Worth trying the lens gain pot?
Edit: Oops hah just saw a similar thread a bit further down, to eager :)

Are you running original discs or burns?

All originals.

A clicking sound? I wonder if that is the CD lens trying to read at first. It very well could need a slight adjustment. Usually adjusting the V102 pot fixes any issues as far as the lens getting a bit weaker over time.

Thanks for the reply Keith, I think you could be right. I cleaned the laser last night made sure the disc wasn't catching anything, bit of lithium grease etc. The laser seems to struggle on some discs so I'll have a go with the pot tonight.

Also sometimes cleaning and re-greasing the rails the lens moves on can fix reading issues.

Cheers Keith you were right on the money with the VR102 Pot a small turn to the left and the drive is having no troubles.
