Title: Must Buy Games?
Post by: Radtastic89 on August 10, 2013, 03:37:14 PM
I'm going to be getting into collecting for the Turbo/PC Engine soon. I'm wondering what games are a must have for the system. I'm really into every type of game wither it be action adventure, rpg, platformer, or shoot em' up.

Hahahahhahahahahahha.  (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

I'm sure Black_Tiger made an awesome list by genre and by budget in some old threads.  (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

Out of my collection:

Akumajou Dracula X: Chi no Rondo
Ghost Warrior Spriggan
Super Star Soldier
Ys IV
Mahjong on the Beach

That last one was a joke.

OK, I will start with two games close to my heart and a third that closely follows.....

Mysterious Song
Pyramid Plunder
Insanity

Beside the fact that I worked on two of those three games, these are MUST BUYS because ONE: They are great games and TWO: They are great examples of the living Turbo/PCE.

Now, if I were to go on to a list of classic games:

Gate of Thunder
Ys Book I & II
Bonk's Revenge
Dungeon Explorer II
Neutopia (1 or 2)
Legendary Axe (I or II)

I think that covers some of the best games across a few genres and doesn't leave the US released games. If you go into Imports the lists gets much longer. This list is also not REALLY pricey (Dungeon Explorer II pushes it up quite a bit). Also, it is a nice list of CD and HuCard titles.

Check this thread out.  It should help you.

Of course, if you can make sure that you will have the ability to play both TG-16 and PC Engine HuCard games and also be able to play all 3 of the CD formats - CD Rom, Super CD, and Arcade CD, then your Turbo gaming experience will be the best.    8)

As a collector, if you don't know what you want and you have no genre preferences, then it doesn't matter what you buy; it will all look equally good on your shelf. I would recommend the TV Sports series.
