Title: Another ebay seller backs out of a sale after the auction has ended.
Post by: Flare65 on August 15, 2013, 08:10:40 AM
Happened again on another game that ended at 99 cents.  Different seller though.  Right after the auction ended I get the following email in from him/her:

Do NOT send payment item has been lost

I reply back with:

You know I'm gonna leave negative feedback on this if we don't complete the deal, right? You are the second guy this month that has "lost" and item that ended at 99 cents. I'm getting sick of sellers backing out of the deal because they didn't like how the auction ended. This is the risk you take when you put stuff up on ebay. Next time list it for higher if you don't want it selling so cheap.

And she (he?) gives me this response:

If I find it ill let you kno and I am a woman I have to check the box I put it on again

This person is brand new to ebay and only has one feedback (positive).  I hate to enforce the rules, but this is getting ridiculous.

If she can fit games in her box, she's probably a whore.  NEGATIVE FEEDBACK, GO!

Hey, I was watching this auction—Hannah Montana Singing Star for Wii, right? Sadly, I don't have a microphone, otherwise I would have put in a bid.

I won an item for a penny and the seller acutally shipped it    granted it was $7 in shipping.  Man you have some bad luck there.  Hope next time things go well.  also hope you get to play singing star - it really is a great game

The part about it being a woman is not surprising. The vast majority of sellers I have run into that do not honor auctions were women.

I've had a few instances of this sort of behavior (sellers refusing to sell items for very little money). For me the problem has actually been more with ebay power sellers than with people with only one feedback though.

You must be talking about your Hit_Japan incident.

You must be talking about your Hit_Japan incident.

That's one example, I had another super ultra mega seller (not video game specific) sell me an item for about 1/4 of what it goes for as a buy it now or on amazon. Then tell me "Sorry, we already sold the item". At which point I wrote back and asked "What do you mean you already sold it?". And they replied "We sell our items on multiple sites and it was sold on another site before ebay". So At that point I reported them to ebay for violating terms of service and left negative feedback. But being a super duper mega seller I'm sure ebay did nothing besides send them a message about it and remind them of the TOS.

I've never had anyone back out on a sale on me yet.  But I normally try and pay right right away so people can't cancel a transaction on me easily.  If they've got the money already, they have an incentive to find it since issuing refunds and whatnot can be more hassle then just getting the transaction cancelled.

In both instances I paid right away and was refunded.

Are you asking me or Flare?

Update.  The seller found the game and told me to send the payment.  I sent the payment this morning and she just marked the game shipped through ebay this afternoon.

Apparently I am either a communist or looking to hide my assets...

Sorry for the necro bump  but I "liked" that whole story so much I think it should be shared  :D.

The seller Tokyotoyfactory had this Madou Monogatari for 139,99 Euro (+13 Euro shipping) sitting unsold for at least a year:

It didn't sell for two reasons:

1. It was too expensive  :P
2. The Spine Card was taped/glued to the CD case  :?

However a few weeks ago the seller had a lot of stuff 30 - 50 % discounted => which means: normal prices since his stuff is generally 30 - 50 % over the normal prices

The price was 111,99 Euro (+13 Euro shipping) and since Madou Monogatari is one of the last 2 Arcade CD games that I'm missing I put the BIN auction in my watched auctions. A hour before the discount ended I said "f*ck it" and bought it (I was sure I could get the Spine off undamaged  8)).

This was on 3rd February 2014 - I paid right after the BIN auction was ended.
The next day I had the payment refunded by the seller.
We went a few times back & forth through the Ebay "Mailing system" (which just f*cking sucks in my opinion) and he claimed he had sold Madou Monogatari a few days ago on Amazon JP.

And this is the thing I don't get:

First off - I don't believe he has sold the game on Amazon JP because I couldn't find his store on Amazon JP (and when I asked him for a link he didn't send me one worried about personal information)

I get it: You don't want to sell MM for 111,99 Euro but why in the hell do you offer a discount on items in the first place when you are not willing to sell it cheaper ???

I mean - I survived  (and I got my money back) but such behaviour pisses me off  :x.

PS: I asked him if it would be possible to give me the other MM (which cost 179,99 Euro & is in perfect condition with an untaped Spine Card) for 111,99 Euro instead and his answer was that this one also sold a few days ago on Amazon JP => yeah right. Nobody bought this 2 MM for years and now they both sell in a few days    .

PSS: Indeed it feels good to write this off the chest  :D & I know in the future I will avoid this store like the plague  8).

PSSS: This was the FIRST time something like this has happened to me in 10 years on Ebay .

I have a similar story!

A few years ago I decided that cart only was unacceptable for the Genesis, since everything came in such nice little cases and were still pretty dang cheap to pick up complete.  For some strange reason I put off replacing my cart only Gunstar Heroes until the price for the US release started climbing.  Since it was on my watch list, I spotted a flawless looking BIN at a cheap price and snapped it up immediately.  Sent payment that same day.  All good, right?

I can only assume that the seller began to search through current BINs and completed auctions on eBay and realized they had sold the game for half its going rate at the time.  The next day I get an email from eBay... it's a notice of cancellation for the item!  The reason given was that the item was tested and no longer works.  Obviously that's bullshit; the cart looked pristine and, in my experience, it is very, very difficult to ruin a cart completely.

I wrote back saying something along the lines of "Hey!  It's your lucky day!  I already own the cart for this game and am more interested in the packaging than the game itself!  I'm willing to pay the same high price for a broken game, no problem.  Just send it to me and, if it doesn't work, I'll toss it in the trash and still leave you positive feedback.  What a lucky break, huh?"  I know it sounds corny as hell, but I laid it on real thick haha.

They actually did end up sending the game and it still works to this day.  Never even had to clean it, it looked great when I opened it up.

Liars, man.

Whoop whoop, found the emails:
Quote
I regret to inform you that I will not be shipping this game to you due to recently discovering that it no longer seems to be working. The game was cleaned and tested about a week ago and it appeared to be working fine. But now I tested it several times on two different machines and all that it will show is a black screen. So, rather than send you a defective game, I have issued a refund. I'm very sorry about this

Quote
Well then, it seems I jumped the gun. I cleaned out the game again thoroughly and now it appears to be working. I can't guarantee it will continue to work though. But if you still want the game, then it's yours. I'll send you a money request through Paypal.

Hahahaha

I've had that copy of MM on my watch list for at least a year. If I'd seen it on sale, I probably would have finally bought it too. Definitely something other that their official story going on. We'll probably see it back on eBay soon.

He couldn't have put it on Ebay again right away because I didn't close the "case". I told him I wouldn't close the case until the refunded money was back in my Paypal account(which takes around 5 WORKING days). Today the money was finally in my account & I wanted to close the case today but by the looks of it the seller can close the case also after 7 days  (and of course he closed it already) => which is really senseless because after seven days you don't have that refunded money in your PP account (in my case it took 10 days).

But yes - I'm sure you are right - we will see this MM on Ebay again  :D. For 140 Euro (153 Euro shipped) of course  [-( - which is just too much considering the Spine Card issue.

Yes I knew about that - but I didn't ever hear about a MM counterfeit - and for the discounted price I was willing to risk it - I should have known better  ](*,).
