Title: Syd Mead art
Post by: vestcoat on August 18, 2013, 09:13:40 PM
Outside of the TG16 shooter and his popular movie work, I've never gone out of my way to look at Syd Mead's art before. Just stumbled across this: http://imgur.com/a/s9Oyr#0

Pretty awesome. The same and more comes up in google images, but the link is a good start.

Sydney Mead's vision is how I view the future...3 years from now  (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png).

I just missed out on a eBay auction for his Kronolog book/LD combo. I thought I might get it at $200...

It went for $700...

That was pretty rad.  Reminded me of Futureland at Disney.

I had no idea anything like that was created for LD... I have it on VHS. No, he would never have allowed it on VHS.

Yeah, I had to do a bit of Googling and found this guy's discussion of it:
http://someartbooks.wordpress.com/2012/07/21/syd-mead%C2%B4s-kronolog/ (http://someartbooks.wordpress.com/2012/07/21/syd-mead´s-kronolog/)

Very neat stuff, but apparently it's only white people in the future.  :P

I'd never seen any of this before, so beautiful. Just has that mystery and uncertainty about it that really captures me, like many games do. Leaves so much to the imagination. I see one of his books is in print for a pretty low price, I may have to buy myself a copy. Thanks for posting this.

It was also released on VHS, but in much fewer numbers.

That does look fantastic, but I was hoping for a 'Terraforming' box set discussing his creation and the gameplay/grafx..  Oh well.

That artwork is fantastic.

It's a bit embarrassing, but I watched Blade Runner for the first time yesterday (got the blu-ray version of amazon) and it was very fun seeing that design artwork and concept sketches by him shown in the documentary that came with it. :)

Why haven't I heard about this guy sooner?!

Yeah, not really sure how to explain it but there's tons of well known movies, classics even, that I just haven't seen yet. I'd like to think that this is because my family never has been that into watching movies. And with friends I've mostly seen newer stuff, I guess.

It's a bit like a PC gamer not having played Half-Life I suppose...(though I have played that at least)

Also I blow my money on other stuff, mostly.

There are tons of "famous" films/movies I have never watched (and I am a film buff!). I don't know when (if ever) I'll watch them now unless my daughter wants to watch it.  (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

The same thing applies to video games, as well...there are entire generations/platforms that I've barely explored. I simply tell myself that I will get to that stuff "in the future"...

Don't feel bad, I've never watched any of the Godfather movies and some people think I'm committing a crime against cinema or something.  All in time, which may or may not ever come.  I've seen references to it parodied so much I wonder if I could even take the originals seriously at this point.

Well worth your time seeing Godfather...in case you needed me to encourage you.  (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

On that note, I have never seen Casablanca. Well, I fell asleep during it. I want to watch it...

Holy sh*t, you are in for a treat. Great stuff, and I'm not the sort of person who would endorse a boxing film...but I even like the cheesy ones (where Stallone? mentors up-and-coming "Tommy Gun").

I HAVE NEVER SEEN:
Iron Man/Marvel films. Don't care.
Pirates of Caribbean series. Whatever.
99% of the stuff you love.

How dare you say that?  (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

but hey, they aren't that bad (for new movies)^^

But never seen a Rocky movie is like never played -=R-TYPE=- on PC Engine.

I've seen Rocky, but it was only until a couple years back. Like others have said, definitely a treat. Watched them in a marathon with a few friends one night. We only got through the 4th one, but those are all the good ones anyway from what I hear.

OT: Sid Mead! Always loved his work! I want to buy his art to decorate my future house with.
