Hey guys,
Brand new owner of a pc-fx. I have wanted one for a while but I remember them costing 200 at least 3 or 4 years ago. I thought I got a great deal on ebay with mine for 125, but apparently another new guy got his for like 85. Is the value going down on the hardware, or am I mistaken?
P.S. mine came with 3 games and shipping so I didn't get a bad deal
-
Maybe I'm just saying this because I haven't bought one yet, but I find the devaluation to be a good thing. Well, in some aspects.
I understand that if one wants to sell something that is a bad thing, but personally I feel that there's no real reason things like old game consoles should cost that much. The company that made it is isn't getting any of that money after all...
And I'm no fan of things getting "exclusive" just because it's expensive. On the contrary, I want those interested to be able to afford the units.
But returning to the topic, I've seen both "cheaper" and more expensive ones as of late so I find it hard to tell. Lost out on an action last week, and that still ended pretty high in my opinion, so there is still interest out there, if nothing else :)
-
I don't mind at all. I thought I got lucky till I researched here.
If you don't mind me asking how much did the auction you lost out on end at?
-
Depends where you live. in the US seems like $150-175 with shipping ect. is about right maybe less maybe more. elsewhere I've heard of these going for much closer to $80 - $100 USD.
I would say you got lucky to some degree. and that 85 dollar one too. that being said I think they should be closer to what you paid if your patient. I have been trying ot get one for right about what you paid.
I have lost out on maybe 10 in the past 6 months. Each went for around 175 -250 shipped. most had a few games with them 1 to 3 cheapies. and a few were bare but had the box. Problem I've seen is that they just don't come up for sale very often (outside of Japan).
-
i got mine for 85$ becuase it was a bid item, not a buy it now item.
Every buy it now price is 125(with 100-200$ shipping) and 200-250 (with 50$ shipping)
There not going down in price, hell i think there going up in price, best bet? Find a bidding not a buy now on ebay, or find one that says (best offer) and give them a offer.

£63 (about $98) + £25 (about $40) in shipping :/ Well, I didn't bid that high because money.
My last bid was about $85...
-
Was this the one you where bidding on>.> http://www.ebay.ca/itm/400537366281 ?
-
I remember in the 90s places in Japan dumping them for $60-80. $125 seems about right for a flawless boxed system (which %90 of them are since they never get played).
-
Heres a PC-FX being bid on i suggest bidding on it, I wont go any higher then 80-90$ you have my word and you have to tions of shipping, this is where i bought my console from great guys, here yea go.

Oh, good old Yamatoku. I usually refrain from buying there because I end up with tons of stuff everytime - it's dangerous! We'll see what happens : )
-
Omg dont get me started^ i was only meaning to pay 160$ for the pc-fx but i coulden't stop myself and the bill went to 350$-_-
-
His PC-FX systems have been selling for about $100-$150 out of box depending on the condition. $200 in the box. I've been watching PC-FX for more than a year. I'm trying to score one with box for under $150. I'm having a hard time doing this.
-
When i bought it i didn't give to ****s if it came with a box or not as long as i had the system in my possession, why is it you need the box? Collectors sake?
-
As far as I can tell, the PC-FX has been around $100-$200 shipped for years. With a system as niche as this that doesn't come up for sale in large quantities, it's hard to nail down a real specific price. It fluctuates depending on how much the people looking to buy are willing to pay at any given time.

Too late, I paid almost immediately :> Well, I can wait, and I need to keep costs down as I'm after some other hardware stuff as well.
I'm happy the price didn't go higher but maybe it's because it wasn't boxed?
Good thing I jumped on a few PC-FX games earlier this year...

I don't need it. I just like the look of the box. If I can get a PC-FX for $50 I'll be more than happy to scoop it up at that price.
-
ill be jumping on a few games tonight and hopefully i win, kudo's on the winning hopefully the system will work by the time it gets to you
-
That was lower than I thought it would end at. I picked up a second controller this week on eBay. It'll take 2 weeks airmail, but it was new and boxed for something like 16 or 17 shipped airmail. You guys should pick one up too. Or wait till I get mine to tell you it arrived so that it is safe to get one too.
eBay is full of crazy buy it now prices these days.
-
Bringing this thread back to life just to say - my system's in the country now
...waiting in customs ](*,)
Oh, good thing I got the system cheap so I could pay a bit more once it reaches here.
Edit:
It's here! Man, Team Innocent is really an odd one
-
I recommend 'Last Imperial Prince' and 'Sparkling Feather'. Fun games!
-
PC-FX has always been cheap here in Japan, stores just want them gone. Exporters would charge more naturally and for awhile this worked, but these days there are less people buying stuff for the sake of it, and more people doing research and seeing the FX isn't for them, hence the online sellers are being forced to lower prices to get them out.
-
Yesssss.... continue falling in price so I can buy one cheap!

Sparkling Feather is on my list of interesting games. Not super into RPGs but checked out some gameplay and Last Imperial Prince looked pretty neat.
So far I have some of the more common/inexpensive games: Team Innocent (dem controls!), Battle Heat, Graduation II FX & Detective Ladies - which is a kinda odd game since I always thought you'd play as the detectives not go up against them. Also the language barrier went kinda over my head. 8-[
I shall give it another try - looking more closely in the manual this time round.
Looking forward to picking up Pia Carrot at some point - I should be able to play it okay-ish. I have been playing Pia Carrot 3 on PC in the past and that went all right.

Indeed. I want the system, it's just not high on my list. A price drop would be great. I'd love to do some homebrew stuff on the system.

They're still bought and sold quite often over here, but we've reached critical mass to have enough to sell back and forth to each other without needing to import more. Buy, try to 'get it' for a month, give up and sell, lather, rinse, repeat.

Since when did Blue Chicago Blues on PCFX become a high ticket title? Does it have as much video as the LD-ROM?

Agreed! We should try and organize a group purchase of a bunch of units and have them shipped to the US by slowboat for everyone interested. I'm sure buying like10 units in bulk plus ocean shipping would be pretty damn cheap when all is said and done.

I'm down for a bit after the holidaze!

If this is being seriously considered, put me down as a purchaser!

Me as well. However, it would still be expensive to ship it to each user after the initial shipment was received.
If something could be done, my company has cheaper than average fedex shipping, that I could ship it out of my office once they came in. I'd be glad to help.
