Title: Famicom platformers
Post by: Nando on September 04, 2013, 07:11:52 AM
What are some platformers, Run and Gun's, worth checking out, that never made it over here?

Cocoron is really good.  It plays largely like Mega Man, but the gimmick is that you build your characters from various parts you have access to, each effecting your stats.  One of the best Famicom games to never come out here.

Another that you might consider is Layla.  It isn't anything amazing, but for 1986, it has a surprising amount of content.  It handles a little weird, like your character is on roller skates or something, but it's decent once you get used to it.

I really like Goonies 1 for Famicom. It didn't come out on NES (but was released as a Playchoice 10 arcade game).

Forgot about that one.  It's short, but what's there is pretty solid.

I'm quite fond of Kyatto Ninden Teyandee ... even if it is far too easy!

dingsbums, most everyone with a Famicom has played Armadillo.

Most of these people thought they were playing "Mario 4."

While I also rather enjoy this game, if you're planning on buying physical carts, keep in mind that this game is very short and easy.  I beat it the day I got it in around a half hour.

So I've been stupidly addicted to this game. It is really easy but the design and overall art direction rocks.

Holy Diver is another one that I keep going back to. It's hard as nails until you start understanding the enemy patterns, and even then, but it's a blast to play.
