Nintendo faces 'path to irrelevance', says Atari founder:

Again with this? Every, I say EVERY time Nintendo has a bad few months, people claim it's the death of the company and usually do so in a smug, "nyah nyah" kind of way. Seriously, folks, stop it. It's not funny and it makes you look like a jerk. No matter how much "hardcore" gamers wish they would go away (they're still pissed that their precious Xbox got stomped by the "lame kiddie" Wii), they're not going to. Nintendo is here to stay and I can guarantee you that the Wii U is gonna turn around. It won't sell as many units as the Wii did, obviously, but it'll do okay. The Xbox One, on the other hand, will flop horribly because the only people who buy it will be those with so little common sense that they openly invite Microsoft to spy on them. And the PS4? Who knows? It might do alright, but after the massive amount of money they lost on the PS3, sales will have to be spectacular and they may not even break even, let alone make a profit. After this gen, I predict that Nintendo will still be around, but Xbox and Playstation won't be and instead, Nintendo's main competitor will be the Occulus Rift.

well Atari does have experience....... (even tho my first ever console was a 2600)

i gotta say, i would honestly be surprised if we have all 3 of the same competitors for the next console generation.
companies are throwing more and more money at this stuff, but no one seems to know exactly where it's going.
microsoft strikes me as being the most "at risk" but the past few years have not been booming for nintendo or sony either.
but with all that said, i don't know how much i actually care; i'm not buying any of em for a couple years, at least.

I already posted this in a similar thread on Atari Age:
I don't really have my finger on the pulse of modern gaming, but Nintendo seems to be doing just fine to me. The Wii U hasn't really taken off yet, but the Wii was a huge hit and the DS line has been going strong for a long time now. I think that Nintendo has been quite consistent in the types of games that they produce, and the audience that they market towards. Not their fault that gaming has expanded heavily into the adult market (I don't mean porn, just "mature" games like GTA and COD) and that too many parents let their kids play that shit. Hats off to Nintendo for sticking to their guns.

btw. it was my first console as well.

Might I remind you that the sales of the Wii U right now are pretty close to how the PS3 was doing at this point in its lifespan.

You're right, this man especially has experience... in becoming irrelevant... mostly at the hands of Nintendo.
Pondering on some old wounds there, Bushnell?

like people have said earlier, this shit comes uo everytime Nintendo is having a rough time. In the end, Nintendo is the only video game company that is still making consoles. Sony is a electronics company, and Microsoft is a computer Company.
Nintendo will be just fine.

i think 3ds sales are really starting to pick up which is good news.
on irrelevance i think ps4 and xbox one are totally irrelevant and add nothing special or new to the gaming world.
