Title: I still call Ys WISE
Post by: Xak on September 25, 2013, 04:48:23 AM
I first played the SNES version in about 1995 , a friend lent it to me. I hated it

Years later I got Ys 3 for the Duo and I loved it. I played and beat that one before 1 & 2 so I didnt know it was pronounced EASE . Me and my buddies that always called it WISE still call it that. Nostalgia, plus it sounds cooler.

EESE.  GEESE without the "g"

NOTE: Guess what game I called "CHEENAH WARRIOR" for months. Granted, an idiot at school told me that was the pronunciation and I believed him (this was before Genesis/TG-16 had launched). But still...

Mispronouncing English words when you're natively English is pretty hardcore I must say...

Seriously though, being natively French speaking I pronounce them a little different than you guys so who am I to judge? You'd laugh at how I'm saying Neutopia & Psychosis

I think my best bud would love the Ys series, But he only ever played that cursed SNES game and never gave any of the other games a fair shake. I should force him to play the Steam versions sometimes.

On topic, I never mispronounced Ys since the first time I hears about it was in a magazine long ago who in the first sentence told you how to pronounce it. Ryu, on the other hand... I know how it's supposed to sound. When speaking, I even pronounce it as correctly as my gaijin accent will allow, but I still read it in my head as Rye-Yoo.

lucky me I'm coming from a country which in most of the cases pronounces/reads japanese words written in latin alphabet (romaji) just like the japanese equivalent almost non-distortion/-deformed.

I say eese because that's how you say it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ys

It was a thing/real word before Ys was a video game.

So, all of you mispronouncing it are retards! BWAHAHHAHAHH

I'm good on Ease, but I still say Gray-dius instead of Grah-dius.

Go home Mzo, you're drunk.

Actually, I do that too. I was at a store a while back that had a copy of Graidus 3 SNES that I wanted. So I go to tell the owner what game I wanted and I had a brief thought: Was it supposed to be Graydius or Grahdius? I have no idea, and if I pronounce it wrong he's going to make fun of me when I leave! "Can you believe that guy? He said GRAYDIUS! HAHAHAHA!"

I call the game Gaydius because I hate that game.

most people around me say "graydius" or "gradius" as in, graduation or something.

there's none of this grahhhhhdius orgasm sound crap.

Being able to see a game name in Japanese helps a lot with pronunciation.  Assuming you can read the Japanese of course.

I have to watch this with my daughter. My wife may watch it for Christian Slater. I'm going to watch it for any NON-SMB3 footage. True story.

And it's not even as big as PunkicCyborg's, and I don't see you poking at him.  Granted, Wonder Momo is far sexier than Kagekiyo.
