Post by: albatross on October 04, 2013, 12:44:30 PM
i recently aquired a white pc engine console and it does not work properly - when turned the screen just seems to just roll or flip continuously - it does not stay steady - has anyone ever had this problem?  is it toast?  thanks

US TV or Jap TV?  White PCE (iirc) is japaneese, so need channel 63 or 64 and some fine tuning on the TV.
FWIW, sounds like a vertical hold adjustment.

its connected with composite video through the interface unit (briefcase) i have another on that works fine on the same briefcase unit so i know its not the tv -  do you think it may just need to be opened up and a good cleaning?

Unfortunately that is a chip on the motherboard.

im guessing by your saying "unfortunately" that is no repair for this?

the Steve could probably repair it for you. changing out chips of that nature is not something I feel very comfortable doing. also, depending on the cost it may not even be worth it.

ya doesnt sound like it would be worth it at all - guess it will just go on a shelf and become a show piece - what a waste of a great system!  have to hunt down another i suppose

thanks for the help!

do you only need another one because you want to fit it with the cd-rom briefcase color (white to white)?

then you could try to exchange the casing from the core I / II you have with the white non-working one  :)

ya the shell is actually in great shape - bright white - maybe i will find an old dirty yellow one that works for cheap and swap it out

Just to rule something out did you try it with an rf switch from the console itself (no ifu?) An nes gray-box rf switch should work.
