Hi folks, I got this link from digg.com:
Super Mario's Wacky Worlds (http://www.classicgaming.com/blackmoon/smww.asp)
Scroll to the bottom for screenshots! Pretty kool, especially since it sounds like the development team was trying to make a decent game, one that would be worthy. They showed a short demo to Nintendo:
... At the end of that time, we had a little bit of one level done, enough to display at an upcoming Nintendo developer meeting. The disk was burned at 4am on friday morning for an 8am meeting." Which leaves the question, why was the game never completed? "The effect was just what was expected. Nintendo marveled and applauded the marvelous job we had done in two weeks, then killed the idea. The CD-i wasn't selling. The project was over, and I went looking for new work." adds Silas.
I don't think this would have necessarily been as bad as the Zelda CD-i titles, but that's utter speculation on my part.

I wonder if the demo played and scrolled smoothly?

This is one of those unfished games that has interested me a lot. If this game was released, I probably would've bought a CD-i a long time ago :D .
-
This post reminded me that I had this burned but forgot to try it before I sold my CDI system, that totally sucks.
-
Hehe, I have the beta of this game on my computer somewhere. I don't even know how I got it. Might try it on my CD-i emulator someday.
I've always wanted a CD-i. One of these days I'll get one. Some of them look pretty awesome (there are several models).
-
Wait a minute, they actually released a proto of this game or something for download?? I gotta check that out :o ! Not sure when I will get a CD-i, I've been wanting one for a long time now.
-
No they didn't release a proto on that site. I've had this for a long time, just laying around on my computer. Never really bothered to try it out (mainly because I didn't realize it had this much potential -- I didn't know what it was).
Edit:
Okay, I have tried the game out. Man, it is terrible. Mainly because of the INSANELY crappy emulator. You can ONLY play using the mouse. I had to enable mouse keys and use that. Almost impossible to play, but no matter -- BECAUSE ENEMIES WON'T KILL YOU -- THEY JUST MOVE YOU AROUND.
I'll need to get a real system in order to try it out more thoroughly. Seems to have potential.
Here's a screendump I took just a moment ago:

Wow, that screenshot looks awesome.
I wasn't able to watch the video provided in the article I linked to (the host of the video requires you to register first). Anyone watch it?
I have a bunch of CD-i games, but I've never owned a console. I didn't even know there were CD-i emulators available.
For anyone who watched PBS kid shows when they were in college, like I did, you might remember Lambchops (great show, even for adults) ... well, I recently bought a Lambchops CD-i game (or an interactive sing-a-long, I'm not quite sure what it is). Yay!
I was tempted to buy a Thunder in Paradise interactive movie as well, but I decided not to. My brother loved this show back in the day and I would have gotten the game for him. Alas, nobody he knows owns a CD-i player, so he would have been annoyed at me for teasing him with an item he can't use (I'm serious!).

Lambchop is awesome! Also I think "Thunder in Paradise" might have the coolest title name in existence, I have never heard of that! 8)
