Title: Working out again (after breaking both forearms and wrists)
Post by: Xak on October 21, 2013, 05:38:56 AM
5 months after a near death accident left me with multiple skull fractures and two broken fore arms and wrists, My wrists are finally flexible enough to bend and push a limited amount of weight. I started slowly since I have not excersized since May. It feels good to be sore again, to get that appetite back and to slowly get myself back to the 'old me'.

Just wondering if anyone else in here likes to jog  , lift weights, practice a martial art?

Jeez man  , is this the first time you mention this?  That sucks.  Here's to continuing to a full recovery!

Not sure If I mentioned it on here before. It showed me how quickly ones life can end, and at the same time how resilient and strong the human body can be. Here is my skull scan, I am actually going in two hours to the dentist to get a permanent bridge cemented in my bottom 3 teeth that got knocked out. In the process they severed half my lip off on the way out, my lip was hanging off my face, they stitched it back on, now I got a scar above my lip, its not bad thank god but its new and its there. New scar on top of my nose too. Broke all my sinus' lost my sense of smell.

^I was working on a warehouse roof that caved in from under me. Fell 30+ feet face first basically my arms broke the fall and took most of the impact. I should be paralyzed or dead and im not. So Im living it up this time around .

Damn, that's lame.

Did you get to sue the warhouse roof people or whatever or something from it?

I'm finally getting back on track doing cardio again.  My muscle mass is decent enough from the last time I was doing weights, I just need to stop the frozen yogurt love and focus on getting rid of my "insulation".

I can run 3 miles in the hot sun without stopping . Been doing tons of cardio to get back on track and slim down since I got fat from not lifting in 5 months and counting since my wrists are still pretty bad. I just run and do martial art drills. Dropped ten pounds in a week , proper eating and cardio. Even threw up a few times from carbon buildup in my lungs, my heart sometimes pushes my body past its limit.

Holy cow. Glad you survived. With weights, take it slow - really slow - and do your physical therapy for a long time first. I broke my radius a year and a half ago and re-injured myself lifting light weights twelve months later.

I'd highly recommend a few acupuncture visits for bone aches and pains. The difference I felt in my wrist and elbow immediately after the first visit was night and day. Even with the cheap interns at a nearby school, I couldn't believe the pain relief and restored flexibility.

Not to sound like a total hippie, but I also broke my foot ten years ago and Tai Chi really helped get my balance and range of motion back.

Comrade, if you need your Chi flowing in a healthy fashion, simply play PCE Ninja Warriors.

You will never need to lift weights, eat flan, or get acupuncture ever again.

Yeah be careful with the weights, especially after the surgery.  My dad (now 63) still thinks he can lift what he did 20 years ago.  Now he's had surgery on BOTH shoulders and has been told to cut out the weights.  Doc said if it tears again then there's going to be nothing they can do.  Of course after 3 weeks he's back at the gym.  Hopefully he's listening to the doctor, but really...what do they know?  Right? *sarcasm*

Great news that you are getting back on your feet though.
