Title: WTB Dracula X
Post by: Halfabag on November 03, 2013, 08:11:15 AM
Hi you lovely lovely people!

As the title says, I'm looking for a complete copy of Dracula X for a fair price ()

I'm sick of having to trawl ebay  ](*,) and getting ripped off on the price.

Help me and I'll be for ever in your debt.

Is $100 a fair price? I remember Drac X was at $200 ten years ago but after the PSP release it dropped back down.

Local shop has a Drac X last time I paid a visit. Saw that it was asking $100, but I did not inquire or haggle.

If you're looking to pay $100 for it, there's one currently on eBay.

There's almost always a couple on eBay for around $100. Not a terrible price, but not great either. It can be had for $75-$85 if you're patient. I got one for $80 shipped last May, mint w/no spine card.

When it was a PCE exclusive, it was cool to have but I think the PSP version is actually way better...and cheaper.

How is it better? Are you sensitive to nude werewolves?

Around 80-100 seems reasonable. I think I paid around that price for mine.

The sprites/graphics seem better, the dialogue is in English, they added an alternate quest, and it also includes Symphony of the Night (that's 2 games for half the price of the PCE version).

The sprites/graphics are actually identical (aside from minor localization/censorship), it's just PCE hardware emulation. The exact same iso is $9 on Virtual Console. There isn't any alternate quest in the PSP version, just a bonus fugly 3D remake with compromised gameplay.

I agree that the compilation at the going price is a better value, but the included version isn't quite as nice. You can play the PCE version with he PSP dialogue or even improved English voice acting.

But the PSP version is still emulation, which if that's cool for someone, would mean that the torrent with every PCE CD iso is a much better value and you can play it with much better emulation on Android devices, let alone the infinite other alternatives.

The PSP collection compliments Dracula X for PC Engine. It doesn't make it obsolete.

I shit you not that Dracula X on the PSP plays a tad faster.  Listening to the music and playing it something just seemed off.  Turns out it was the speed.

Go for it on PC-Engine.  No spine it really should be $65.  Sometimes it is, but $75 is average for a decent copy.  $100 you're paying to much.

I hadn't played either version in quite a while so I was confused by your comment about them having identical sprites since I clearly recall being blown away by the enhanced graphics and cut scenes on the PSP version. But after digging up my PSP to make a comparison, I unlocked the "original game" mode in stage 2 and realized that you were comparing that mode to the PCE which does in fact have identical sprites. As Geise mentioned above, it does play a tad faster which gives it a different playing experience and the fact that the screen size is smaller with an unnecessary border is pretty lousy too which gives the PCE the edge in that comparison. The extra quest that I was referring to was apparently the original game mode (like I said, it had been a while since I had played but I did remember there being some other choice in the options menu). We obviously have differing opinions regarding the "3D" mode but I personally like it. I wasn't aware that it was available on the Virtual Console but if it costs $9, that sounds like a good value.

I really enjoyed the updated graphics of the PSP version and felt that the addition of the item collecting was a nice touch. Incidentally, I unlocked SotN (it has basically identical graphics to the original) but it looked blurry on my PSP and I just couldn't play through it.

It's been awhile but didn't the PSP version of Rondo have an extra stage? Or maybe just an extra exit on an existing level? I remember that level being tough as nails and having this two-story hydra boss at the end.

I don't know about the ebay prices you guys are qouting. I watched this one for several weeks back in the fall. The cheapest I saw it sell for was w/o spine was lower $80's. The most I saw a spineless copy sell for was $175 I think. The spined copies were consistently $120+.

After losing auction after auction I finally found a buy now listing that was $102 shipped, and I felt like I got a decent price as far as eBay goes.

Be wary of seller yyygfgh or something like that. I bought a copy from him for $94 shipped. He marked it shipped within 24 hours, but did not provide a tracking number, and gave me some line about Japanese post do not provide tracking or some BS, and told me to be very patient because it takes a long time to clear customs. After hearing this I knew I was in for it, because I've bought from Japanese sellers before without a problem, always get tracking, and always receive it within 2 weeks, most of the time much quicker.

Well after 3 weeks and no game I contacted him again, and again received the exact same response.... customs etc. So I opened up a case with eBay and he promptly refunded my money. I guess he never shipped it since he refunded so quickly and I never got it in the mail. I think he may list games that he does not actually have on hand, but ones he feels he can readily find in Japan, and I guess in this case he couldn't come up with one.

Oh yeah... You can't have my copy either. :)

Well good luck winning an auction. Better use a bid sniper.

And from what sold searches I see on eBay, one copy went for $72 from an American seller (extremely rare) and everything else I see is 80+. Which was my experience. Most copies sell in the 90 range. But like I said... that game is in high demand and winning an auction can test your patience.

I have been trying to find another copy for a present for my friend, and to no avail as well.  I bought a copy like last year or 2 years complete w/ spine for $75.  Trying to get it around that since I always try to get a lot of the rare stuff in the 2 digits rather than 3 lol
