Title: PS4: Who's Got It?
Post by: KingDrool on November 16, 2013, 11:06:11 AM
Well, the PS4 has finally been released. Who's got it? What are your thoughts?

Mine came from Amazon yesterday and I'm really enjoying it so far. The games I got were Killzone, Knack, and Assassin's Creed 4. I also downloaded Resogun, Contrast, Warframe, Blacklight, DC Universe, and Flower. Sounds like a lot, but the only games I paid for were Killzone and Knack (Target had B2G1).

The system itself is sleek and sexy; way better than that f*ckin' George-Foreman-Grill-PS3 shit. The user interface is really slick and fast. I love how quickly everything moves and how it's laid out.

So far, I've played Knack, Killzone, and Resogun. I bought Knack to play with my 6 year-old son and in that context it's a great game. If you've played Skylanders, think of it as Skylanders without the toys. Killzone looks absolutely gorgeous and plays well, but so far I'm not a fan of its "where-the-f*ck-do-I-go?" level design. Granted, I've only played the first couple missions, but that freakin' dam level was shit as far as level design goes. I accidentally stumbled upon my objective points after wandering around for ages. Very frustrating.

Resogun is f*cking great. It delivers on the hype in a big bad way. So much fun...

There you go. What say you?

EDIT: Shit! Wrong forum! I would ask a mod to move this, but...

My pre-order should arrive tomorrow...

The online retailer I used tried to not break street date by shipping the consoles in order of how long the console will take to travel...  Which meant that the people furthest away got their consoles early/on-time, the people closest (somehow I'm in that window) got theirs shipped the day of and therefore haven't received theirs' yet...

Luckily I didn't pay for express shipping since they shipped them later in the day of...  Yeah, complaint threads on their forums, website crashes, etc. ;)

Probably giving it a year or two before I buy one or the other. I bought the PS3 and 360 both when they came out and honestly I don't think I had a favorite either way.

I'm gonna wait a couple years.  There are games I'm gonna want on it, no doubt!  Most notably Uncharted & Infamous.  The Order sounds like it might rock, plus, if Falcom gets any US releases, I'll be all up in that!  If they do any more Jak & Daxters or Ratchet & Clanks, then those will be on my list as well.  You can pretty much guarantee a new R&C, but Naughty Dog is still trying to figure out how to bring back J&D.  As long as they don't reboot it like they were planning.  I'd like the original series to continue.

Resogun is indeed fun, but the omission of radar in a defender clone is a complete crime.

The green arrow doesn't work for you?

I thought it was pretty fun on my first playthrough, gotta give it another go.

The green arrow works, but I mean, when you have the 4th of f*ckin july on screen, nothing works except the radar, lol.

Got my PS4 last night and grabbed some footage. :P

I think the OS (even with the 1.5 update) is a bit buggy.  Don't try to download/update and install anything from the "Notification" window.  It stays stuck in the "Preparing to install".  Best bet is to let it download/install in background.

Well... Except of the initial firmware update.  Downloading from Notifications didn't install, had to go through one of the numerous warning messages that requested updates (like PSN login) for the firmware update to start and compelte.

Anyway, I played Knack with my wife and that wasn't too bad...  Except for the angle changes that could give some people whiplash. :P)  Resogun is fun...  Waiting on all of the other downloads.

Now I've got 20$ in credit (10$ from a previous promotion, 10$ from the PS4 promition), I'm wondering if there is anything for purchase in the PSN store that's worthwhile. :P

I heard Soundshapes is pretty good. It's made by the same guy who did Everyday Shooter, which I loved.

And I agree, the OS is a bit buggy. It seems to be getting better, but strange little things still happen from time to time.

Soundshapes is overrated.

My friend keeps telling me to try flower, but I told him I am not a pansy.

I completely agree with you. Maybe I have not played enough of it, but I never know who to attack to save the humans, and they always die on me. I completely suck at this game for some reason, even though I have been playing much harder shmup games lately (granted they are completely different). I am really bad at running out of boost right before I hit an enemy.

Otherwise I mostly have been playing battlefield. Its fun to be playing such a smooth running battlefield despite the server/kick out problems. I never had a solid frame rate running these games on my laptop, and it overheats way too fast.

I've found that the ones you need to attack either come down on a glowing line and you have to get them before they leave the screen, or they're ones that are glowing very brightly.

Ah that's good. I already thought it might still need bit more to make it real clear :)

It's either the line of tards that you shoot, or the glowing green ones that come in waves.

Sometimes, these waves also have red guys.  You have to shoot the green ones first.

Then the other reds turn green, etc.

If you shoot them out of order, they never let a guy out.

Count me out on this one unless of course we see more variety of games instead of just a bunch of first person shooters that practically all play the same and look the same.

Amen. I play my PS3 about once a month. Every F'n time I turn it on and try to log in, there is a god damn 20 minute system update required.  Exactly why I love retro gaming. I usually only have about a half hour at a time to play, and there is no comparison to turning it on and pressing run to get started. And I don't think NEC/Hudson is tracking every move I make so they can better target the "suggestions" of what I might like.
What do I like?...for Sony/MS to leave me alone and let me play the $400 piece of crap I bought.
