Title: Guess what I'm having problems with again.
Post by: VenomMacbeth on November 24, 2013, 01:06:32 PM
That's right, my model 1 Sega CD!  It powers on, but I get a static bios screen with no Sega CD banner FX.  It did this once when I re-assembled the console without connecting the ribbon cable between the CD drive and the main PCB, but now it does this whether it's connected or not.

I've read that the problem could be failing capacitors, and a few of them do appear to have leaked a little.  Unfortunately, replacing capacitors this small is beyond my soldering capabilities.  So, again, is there anyone here that'll at least take a look at the old girl for me?  Even if it boils down to just replacing the capacitors & hoping for the best?  I'll reward the effort, of course.  Please PM me if you can help!

Did you check the connection going from the cd unit to the genesis?  I had that issue 2 years after buying it in 93.  Cleaned the edges and it worked like a champ.  Sometimes it's better to try the simpler things first.  I hope you can get it sorted out.  I am finally for the first time ever, playing the sega cd/genesis in RGB and would be very sad if I was having issues playing.
