First: I wish someone had the ability to translate Xak I and II, then III might make more sense to me.
I'm looking for information related to how this game plays and possibly a walkthrough. I've been looking over the internet and found guides for the original MSX titles, etc. but not Xak 3.
Does anyone know of anything, or at least some information. I'm playing through it know. It's making me want to try to translate Xak I & II. It's weird starting a game and being level 50....
Thanks
Wynd

Are you playing the translated version? It's pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it.

Xak 1-3 (3rd is Tower of Gazzelle) for the MSX are in full english. I did not like the PCE versions renaming the main character to RATOK , instead of LATOK. Just dont sound right.

What you didn't like was the PCE localization not[/] renaming the main character, as Ratok is how it would have been pronounced in Japanese (Xak is written out as "sock"). Since you're likely not pronouncing it in your head as it was intended ("raw toke"/"law toke") in any version, why not just read it in your head as "Latok" while playing the PCE version?

^Yeah thats what I did. I see, so the PCE is accurate thats cool. Does anyone else get some graphic glitches on their version in english? They are rare but are there. (Rah Toke does sound better than Lah Toke)

That is true; the only thing missing from the translation are translations of the voiced scenes... it'd be nice to know what was being said there, even in some text file translating the audio or something.

The only graphical glitches I get is when you ride your "beast", when they are all charging in, some of the beasts are missing body parts.
The game is awesome actually, but I feel like I'm missing out on the story. The graphics are crazy good.

Nick Rox shares his pain.

^Well when you play through three whole MSX games years before playing Micro Cabins masterpiece you get used to it. I still call Ys WISE. Despite knowing its true pronunciation

Yeah, Ratok was not a "renaming," it's the result of the typical switch of 'l' to 'r' and vice versa that needs to be done when translating foreign words in katakana. I never saw the previous versions of the series, neither did the translators, so nothing from the past influenced decisions for the project.
P.S. Just remembered a case where we failed to catch a needed 'l' to 'r' switch: Feiless City, the very first town that you start in. Feiless is exactly what you get with a decent online translation service. They can usually handle single words of katakana. They don't handle that rule for you though and it's not always clear. Anyway, you keep repeating "Feiless" and think of that Japanese woman with Bill Murray in "Lost in Translation" saying "Lip my stockings...", you'll realize the translation should've been "Fearless City." ;-) Makes sense to have named that town by something to denote their bravery, the last stand against demons and all that.
