Title: What Turbo/Pc Engine games can you not be without?
Post by: YANDMAN on December 04, 2013, 11:57:44 PM
What games do you really feel passionate about or that just really make you feel good to play as soon as you throw that switch??

Whether it be nostalgia or just a love of an awesome game.

I cant help but love every single time i hear the Soldier Blade music and knowing what great blasting is to follow, I love Legendary Axe because its awesome but so typically Turbo with great music and i also love keith courage there i said it, lots of people bash it but it was the first Title i ever saw a picture of and i do enjoy its quirky nature.

I love L.Axe, it screams Turbo. My goto's are Parodius, Power Golf and any of the Soldiers(and Blazing). Spriggan has mucho nostalgia for me since it was my first import obey. Other games I keep going back to are Buster Brothers, Dragon Saber, Ninja Spirit and Street Fighter II.

Any new pick ups get the most play, so I've been hamming at Battle Lode Runner, Zipang, Outrun, V. Run and Kato & Ken.

The Legendary Ax II, the music alone makes it worth it.
Bloody Wolf, who can't love this game, wish it was 2 player but other than that.
Blazing Lasers, such an amazing effort for an early title.

I usually play Splatterhouse on hard mode which really isn't that much harder than normal.  Years ago when I played it through 3 times in a row, that was the first time I beat it on hard.

One of my all time favs and I still can't get enough!

In my top five of all time favorite cartridge game music...it uses sound in a similar way to Super Castlevania 4 to put across a dark, lonely, depressing atmosphere, it blows my mind to think that this game is only 2 megs, with its huge bosses and pretty good animation, SCIV by contrast is 8 megs and so is Bloodlines for the Genesis, Dracula xx is 16 or more megs. Its biggest drawback is its low number of unique Background tiles.

I never really played LAII bitd, but the more I play it now, the more I appreciate it on a level of Dungeon Explorer.  It's really good.  And the gameplay feels more balanced (meaning I can make it farther without swearing at the TV and throwing my controller in frustration).  I'm not saying LAI is inferior, I'm just saying LAII is awesome!

It hasn't broken into my "must own" category yet, though.  Dungeon Explorer would come before LAII, if only for the music, but DE is also a sweet 5-player game and LAII is only single player. :(

My go-to game is Legendary Axe. It's the game I usually play when I don't have too much time, getting to 4-1 or so before stopping. Air Zonk is a somewhat distant second.

It was Alien Crush until last year, when I became a bit bored of it after so much playing.

You know I actually really like Boxy Boy myself.  Definitely others I'd play way before it so it's not on my list, but I find that game tons of fun.

The Legendary Ax II, the music alone makes it worth it.
Bloody Wolf, who can't love this game, wish it was 2 player but other than that.
Blazing Lasers, such an amazing effort for an early title.

Great to see some Bloody wolf, Some people bash this game for some odd reason, i think most dont realise its an arcade port and a damn near perfect one too.

+1 for Bloody Wolf, I actually like it more than the arcade board.

It's a fine port, but i all ways disappointed it lacked a 2p while the arcade original has it.

The only differences are that both versions have a different color palette, and Turbo version is better in gameplay in some ways (like shotgun boss).

The arcade board was very similar to the Turbo. I'm surprised Bloody Wolf was the only port.

Too many to list, not just games I think are great, but games I really would chose over all platforms. The big one obviously is TM/FEOE Fuun Kabuki Den, which never gets old.

Bloody Wolf is actually arcade-superior, with double the framerate, infinitely better soundtrack, double(?) the length and bonus modes to keep it interesting for longer. The arcade version shouldn't have been released as-is. The PCE version isn't really a port, since the arcade runs on PCE hardware, except the sound, which wasn't ported. :P
