Title: Samsung TV questions
Post by: munchiaz on December 08, 2013, 11:52:37 AM
So i found this TV outside today while taking out the trash. Brought it in the house, and so far the only thing that doesn't seem to work is HDMI. I'm fine with this, but i was wondering if anyone had any experience with this TV when it comes to classic consoles? S0 anything using RF,AV and s-video

I have an hl-s5687 dlp and I love it.  Retro stuff looks surprisingly good on it   It seems to have a great scaler built in.  Keep it and wear it out!

So after testing, i have decided to give the TV to my brother. I tested it while playing rayman on both my CRT TV and this DLP at the same time, and the CRT was much sharper and cleaner. I also noticed there are 2 white dots on the top left of the DLP TV. They aren't really in the way, but you can notice them. Another things i noticed, is there seems to be a flicker on the edges of objects in games, and when i moved with rayman in the game the flicker went away. So CRT it is until i someday find that PMV

Well of course its going to look worse than a CRT, but as far as HDTVs go with retro stuff, I have no complaints.  A CRT will always look much much better though.

Yeah thats true. With the amount of space i have right now the CRT is better anyway. Since the CRT is only a 19" and this HDTV is like 55"

Free is always good.  If you've got a bit of time to burn you can always give Samsung a call about the HDMI port and see if they'll send a tech out for free.  They did this for me when I had an issue with my TV a couple years back.

You're giving me flashback nightmares from the time I had to replace the color wheel in my Samsung DLP (it had exploded and shattered inside the TV). Oh man that was not a fun fix, haha.
