Title: How is the JRPG library on the PCE?
Post by: lukester on December 10, 2013, 07:19:13 AM
Just curious. I'm not really an RPG person, but would like to get started eventually. Have only played Ys I and II (not finished)

Which ones are best?
How does it compare to say the SNES (or Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest)?
Why are there not many translations? (or many that have been on hold for a long time)?
Are they fun with a walkthrough?

Thanks.

P.S. Good work translators. :)

It really depends on you.

Many people enjoy Japanese language RPGs without any Japanese language skills or guides and many people enjoy them with various aides.

RPG'ish games have been my favorite since before the 8-but generation and I have enjoyed PCE RPGs more than any other consoles'. If you appreciate art, style and variety, SNES/SFC RPGs can't compete.

Some great ones to try:

Tengai Makyou II
Tengai Makyou Fuun Kabuki Den
Ys IV
Gulliver Boy
Neo Metal Fantasy
Anearth Fantasy Stories
Legend of Xanadu
Legend of Xanadu II
Xak I & II
Cosmic Fantasy IV Chapter 2
Madou Monogatari

Startling Odyssey II has a rough English patch.
