Title: Why are the Mega Man games so dang expensive!
Post by: toymachine78 on December 18, 2013, 03:32:44 AM
I know they are super fun and iconic, but its not like they are rare. Growing up everyone I knew had at least one of them.

I kick myself now because I traded mine when I was a kid because I got tired of them, and all the sequels.  #-o

And just when I thought the eBay copies were rediculously priced, I stopped by my local retro store and mega man 1 was $80 for the cart, manual and dust sleeve. Geez!

First one I had was 2, borrowed it from someone at school and they let me keep it. 4th grade it was. I actually beat it

It's super popular right now.  Hopefully it'll die down with time.

I got the first Mega Man game as a birthday gift and have been in love with the series ever since.  Too bad I tossed all those old boxes =[

Local retro stores are generally a rip off and only survive by gouging or piracy.

Four copies of Mega Man 1 sold on eBay recently for $20 - $30. Seems like a good deal to me for an early NES game with a small print run, but just happened to spawn a massively popular series.

Megaman is the hotness right now. He will be in the new smash. a few of his games got canceled. Mighty number 9 is a thing. I think over time it will die down. I just have the megaman collection and X collection for gamecube, and those are just fine for me. Also they have re released a few of them on the 3DS as well

IMHO, Mega Man is the greatest representation of what the NES can do.  So many great color choices, such awesome game play, perfect music which hasn't been beaten till this day.  These games aren't particularly rare, just that people don't get rid of them once they have them.  Your best bet is to purchase the anthology for the OG XBOX that's what I did.

Didn't the GC collection mess with the controls? I've been meaning to pick one of the collections up, either the GC or the PS1 version.

Yes. The GC version switched A and B which made the game unplayable for me.

Man, I gave away my last Mega Man game... Maybe I should have held onto it to become an evil reseller! ;) The only one I've kept over the years is Mega Man 2 just so one day I can say I've beaten a MM game. :)

Mega Man is not trash!

PCE forum or not, saying Mega Man isn't a great game series is just lunacy.

It just became the it thing collect again that's all. When capcom came out with the anniversary collection for PS2,GC&Xbox it did give the attention to the series again. My advice if you want to save money on buying it just go with the japanese version, the same thing for mega man x as well.

Just import them for less.

It's not like you need to read shit in a Megaman game.

whilst I don't think they are bad games or even considered as crap (as I stated earlier and seemed to upset some peeps by taking my words way too serious, lol), they certainly aren't master pieces gameplay wise.

btw. yours nandoo? very nice pic :)

I agree with Tats.  I don't really get the appeal of Mega Man gameplay wise.

The series is totally fun. You be crazy. If it is guilty of anything, you can criticize the recycled content ("more of the same") seen in later sequels.

But, and this is the crucial point I'm stressing: You be crazy.

I wish!  Someday maybe and probably not all of them.  ;)

They are good games, but I love the characters collateral art more. If that makes any sense.

You played one Mega Man game you played them all. Seriously, they are good games but they are almost as bad as how many flavors of Street Fighters we have seen over the years.

I know a guy who is crazy into Mega Man, down to having Mega Man and Zero tattoos, large ones at that. Now he's bugging me to buy my Tron Bonne.

Very true, which is why I traded mine as a kid.
