Title: Any MSX fans out there?
Post by: Xak on December 29, 2013, 04:54:24 AM
The MSX and PC-98 had a onslaught of RPGs and Text Adventures. The MSX seems to be the most 'western friendly' of the machines as it has seen many translations of many great (mostly Konami) games.

Brings me to the point, this little known awesome Konami RPG. Knightmare 3 , is available in Enlgish, Spanish & Portuguese. A great RPG with fun battle scenes.

just an MSX. I am working on getting another PC98. Had one back in 09-10 but tragically was lost :(

I have

VAMPIRE KILLER boxed. My crown jewel. THE FIRST MetroidVania and it came out just months after Castlevania 1 on NES.

Dude that is killer!  Vampire Killer boxed!!  You should totally share pics of that one along with your MSX.  Maybe even with you in the picture too!  :)

If Vampire Killer is a Metroidvania, then so is Dracula X.

I have a Panasonic A1ST Turbo-R and a MIDI-PAC :)

Games (all cibbler):

Dig Dug
Fray (Turbo-R ver)
Dragon Knight
Dragon Knight II
Dead of the Brain
Zanac
Zanac EX
Aleste
Aleste Gaiden
Aleste 2
Laydock
Super Laydock
Laydock 2
Undeadline
Gradius
Gradius 2
Gofer No Yabou Episode 2
Parodius
Salamander
Space Manbow
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
SD Snatcher
Arctic Adventure
Penguin Adventure
Akumajou Dracula (Vampire Killer)
King Kong 2
Contra
F1 Spirit 3D Special
Thexder
Fire Hawk: Thexder 2

Overall the MSX is a great system, lots of fun.  But the prices have gone insane these days, it's the new NeoGeo AES.  I'd recommend most people just emulate unless you're prepared to pay out.

MSX Contra is quite derpy.  The game doesn't scroll, it screen flips.  Most fans of the NES/Arcade games won't like it.  You kind of earn weapons by leveling up, then can switch between them as you wish.  It's also really easy and most will clear it on their first go.  The SCC music is quite nice though.  Overall I like it, very weird version of the game, but not sure I can really recommend it when you won't find one for less then $100+ these days, I'd say emulate first.

Edit:  I also own Valis 1 and 2, I forgot them lol.

HAHHHH nuuuub

I have an A1GT.   You suck.

I own a bunch of games for mine too.  Burai, Emerald Dragon, Illusion City, Dragon Slayer 6, Dragon Slayer 4, Fray, Hydlide 1-3, JESUS THE SPACE ADVENTURE, Goonies, Knightmare, Exerion, Laptick 2, Super Tritorn... uhh some other stuff?

Bunch of Konami cartridges I found loose.  Ninja Kun!

It's an awesome machine.  The haters can eat a dick.

What haters?

I used to have an MSX2. Would like to own one again, but many of the games were pricey, even from Japan.

Goonies was great though, but I beat it in a day (no passwords).

The Konami MSX Collection for Saturn looks awesome, but it is missing many critical games.

I've seen people online complain about it because of the choppy scrolling on certain games and stuff.

Anyway, I've got a Sony HB-F1XDJ that I modded with 256K of RAM and it's an awesome machine. Since MSX carts are ridiculously expensive outside of YHJ, I also have a MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD cart which plays most of the games out there. You can load disk images with it as well, but I have yet to figure that out so I have a bunch of copied disks for it. I've thought about getting a Turbo R machine but the HB-F1XDJ suits my needs very well.
