So is the point of any of these classic gaming related FB groups simply for the admins to use it to garage sale their wares? First there was the one I was on, and now this. Told myself not to join anymore of these after that last one, and this drama over a sale/trade post confirms why I shouldn't. Admins with e-dicks who only care about pushing out their wares or trying to buy and re-sell for profits.
Also, funny that the guy bothered to translate the Japanese text for Hiso Kihei Kai Serd, but not for Yokai Dochuki. You only bother to call it Shadowland because you're lazy and don't give a f*ck because the game is meh anyway, not because you really think its called that. I'd be a smart ass and start spamming his group with fake ads for games, changing their names. Splatterhouse can be Hockey Mask Nightmare. Sapphire can be Ruby Shooter. Alien Crush can be called Alien 3, etc.

Yeah I feel bad all this happened especially fro aaron, the mod he seemed like a nice guy. Sometimes we can get out of hand when things get funny but I'd just rather avoid dealing with that overly serious guy.

Chris refuses to accept that he's wrong, citing other websites that repeat the same incorrect translation and claiming that what's written on the manual isn't any more 'official' than said random sites. 4. Tatsu gets banned for insisting he's correct and likely mocking teh noob. I'm assuming the latter part, but it's certainly in his nature (like you with vestcoat audits or me being an ass). 5. There truly are no advantages of being in a FB video game group instead of a video game forum. The Turbografx group ran by Chris seems to be a cesspool of guys trying to sell crap for high prices and arguments. (Totally different than PCFX right?) ;)
However...
I think personally I joined up with a couple of these(Retro gaming/thrift/sales) groups on facebook purely because A-I have a FB account, and need a reason to use it (other than sharing happenings with my friends and family with extended friends and family). and B-It's a good way to branch out and introduce others to 'teh true OBEY forums' here as I've met a few Turbo guys that have never heard of this site.
Our 'one and only OBEY' group grew so fast initially because many of the midwesterner peeps on this very forum met in person at VGS and MGC and have made it a point to get together 3~4 times a year since we all live relatively close (Beemer in heart and Tats via skype) and have so many similar interests on top of all getting along. Once other Turbo heads joined up, the conversations just continued to grow.
I've also joined a group on instagram after meeting a guy locally through a craigslist trade. He knows what I have on my wish list and I know what he's into and we can message each other if we find stuff around locally. He found a few things that I was interested in just a week ago. It's kind of neat really.
I have no issues with joining social networking sites' VG groups to branch out beyond just being in VG forums, but I wouldn't want a fb group to replace what we have here.

OK, yeah, confirmed it, the US arcade version displays that "Shadowland" text at the top of the title screen: So just for my curiosity, I took the raw Japanese, 妖怪道中記, and ran it through some online translation sites:
1) "Monster Road record" (translate.google.com) 2) "A ghost travel diary" (others) 3) And when you use WWWJDIC (http://www.edrdg.org/cgi-bin/wwwjdic/wwwjdic?9U) (what my criminal translating-partner DeuceBag used to translate Ys games), you get this:
妖怪 【ようかい】 (n) ghost; apparition; phantom; spectre; specter; demon; monster; goblin; (P); ED 道中記 【どうちゅうき】 (n) travel journal; ED
I'd have to look at the game for context, but can I assume that the enemies may be generalized as monsters ?? (Post-looking at that youtube video, I guess so.)
If so, I think "Monster Diary," or better yet, "Monster Diaries" would be an appropriate literal English translation. My guess at least. Eh, I guess "journal" is more accurate, not quite synonymous with "diary," so "Monster Journal" then ?? The plural form with "diaries" seems better to me as a game title, but yeah...
"Shadow land" can work, I guess, but that's what's called "taking liberties." Ghostland would sound lame, too generic-ish. If "Zombie Diaries" could work based on the enemies, I think that would be pretty good marketing-wise. I dunno, but yeah, I thought I'd dig into what it's actually supposed to be - the creators intent is simply something like "Monster Diaries/Journal."
Anyway, what I see happened here is that since the arcade version was localized for English-speaking markets by somebody (looks like Namco themselves), and "Shadowland" was chosen as some kind of English titling (a bit of liberty, for marketing probably) giving it official weight, its use was carried over to the console ports that were never localized (like the PCE version).

Well now I know to avoid selling to Gabriel Garcia. Thanks for the heads up. I want the games I sell (on the rare occurrence) to be played, not locked up in some climate controlled storage facility...

I was pretty sure you were already in that group, but yes... I'd say a good 1/3 - 1/2 of forum regulars are in one or more of the Facebook groups.

I suspected señor hailing was that dude whose profile pic makes it look like he is chewing down a tree like a beaver (because the tree has been partially chewed by a beaver). Guy seems to have a similar sense of humor (minus the mew :3 thing) and hails from Michigan. I actually asked him if he is a member here and he said something like "uh i don't think i am" which is the equivalent of a guilty congressman at an inquisition saying "i don't recall".
HTT is a unique creature, but not Gabriel unique... :lol:
