Does there exist a real number of how many games were released of each category? From what I have found so far in games catalogs on the internet it can´t be that many....
I hear of 700 games - that sounds like some games have been counted twice or three times (due to alt titles).
What´s the real number - if we count every game only ONCE (e.g. the language it was released FIRST or ONLY)?
Would be quite interesting to know.
-
as for Japanese titles, this is all there is:
http://www.pcedaisakusen.net/2/27/list-games--1-0-100-name-asc-0.htm
Total: 738 (also counting hibaihin -> promo, trial give away games and the double release of magical chase).
If you count in the US only releases there will be few more of course.

And there is no double or triple account of alternative titles? Cause that would falsify the number....

no..all single released (commercially or not) titles which one can officially add to his very own collection if obtained as well registered
btw. I'm at 692/738 atm :)
to be fair, 7 of them are not actually games -> Sys card 1.0, 2.0, 2.1, 3.0, ACDuo, ACPro and tenokoe bank. altough few peeps have marked them as a clear :P

if obtained as well registered
You mean ROM download? :D

???
this is a DB on which one can register and add the games he/she owns in real life into his/her personal collection to keep track of them. also you can mark games you have cleared, make or export wish/own lists etc. etc.
this is a serious and deticated obey site for real peeps, not some r0mmler l33chaxXl0r bullshit.
I am surprised you didn't notice about its existence yet.

Indeed I DID notice it and I already had a look at it, but not in depth. I cam across it through a link collection somewhere.
I must have misunderstood you - I thought "officially add to his very own collecation if obtained as well registered" would imply a download option. That´s all - I came across sites that DO offer rom download.

ok not probs. what I really meant is, that you have to own the games and also must be registered to be able to add your games into your private collection on the site's DB :)

That´s a cool feature - having my collection online would help a lot when I am on the lookout for new games. It already happened to me that I bought an additional copy by error just because I thought I don´t have it in my collection
When I might add a little: I am missing more info on games on this database - like a little description plus Photographs (box art, etc...). I know its some work - but if it is really 700+ titles, then this is surely the most comprehensive database yet and an asset to have additional media connected to it!
Thumbs up on the already good work!

Why you not believe the numbers? The PCE killed the MD in Japan, and was the KING until the SFC came out years later... Why the hell would it not have so many games? Just because NEC USA was too busy sucking monkey nuts doesn't mean Hudson/NEC Japan wasn't ballin out in style!
And the database isn't even complete as it's still missing the 14 LD-ROM2 games...

There are other databases that show only less than half these numbers...thats why. :P

If it doesn't say OBEY, it should be ignored.

Then the databases you're looking at are incomplete shit.
Even wikipedia gets it mostly right.

thats a lotta CDs

Agreed! Then I can check more boxes! :D
Also, I know it's not PC Engine, but should PC-FX titles be put in PCE Dai as well eventually?
-
eventually..yes :)

show us those blasphemer databases!!

www.pcengine.co.uk (http://www.pcengine.co.uk/) comes to my mind immediately - not to blame someone here on the forum, in case it is a member. Nicely done, lots of gameplay videos, fotos etc.
But lots of double, even triple listings because of alternative titles. I went through them yesterday, there are quite a few redundant entries in that regard.
I think www.videogameden.com (http://www.videogameden.com/) also has a few doubles in it...gotta keep searching, maybe 2-3 other sites as well.
-
Can you show us some examples of the double listings over at pcengine.co.uk please?
-
Paul does list games under alternate names under the alphabetical listings (like Akumajo Dracula X and Dracula X - Chi No Rondo), but the total number of games is consequently well over 738. lkermel also sometimes lists stuff twice (Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire and just plain Sapphire), but his listing is of his reviews not every game ever made.
In both cases, the double listings are to make games easier to find. Nuttin' wrong with that.

Yup, and there is some duplication also in the fact that some games had different US names than JP names. Be Ball and Chew Man Fu come to mind and they both resolve to the same entry, but again I think it is for the sake of convenience.

Well i hope hackers wise up and realize the gold that has yet to be unveiled to the English crowd.
