I promised these around Christmas to the F-EBay crew but was too busy....
Going to have 4 of these custom boxes up for raffle... Still tweaking some things ( copy is crooked on back) but they are looking really f@cking good, and close to the original, The box is card stock and will come with a styrofoam or a cardboard piece inside to hold your case and game perfectly inside.
For the purist I have put a disclaimer on it that it is a copy, also text on the back is a bit soft which I am not going to fix as another mark of a copy, other then that it looks great beside my original.
These are hand cut, but I have been wielding a blade since 1993 so you will be happy with the result :)
Later I will have these available to buy with a 200 post count for about $5 if anyone is interested, but it will be a limited run as there a pain in the ass to cut and assembly.
Lastly Incase your wondering, I made this box so there is a cheap make do that looks great and serves a purpose for the completist, instead of over paying on a piece of cardboard.
Hope there is no concerns with me making these from our senior members, if so let me know.
Raffle will be open for 1 week...

Sparky, you are an Obey God! Looks fantastic!

Wow, very impressive! Great work and super cool of you to make these.
(Sadly, I am not a woman, nor do I own MC, so don't enter me.)

1. Make hole in magical chase box.
2. ???
:-"
Sparky is the man... he told me how to do these cardboard boxes via PM but being the dumbass that I am with this kind of stuff I only managed to fail... Good luck to everyone in the raffle!
-
Sparky, I'd seriously like to see your talents spent creating a box for Keith Courage.

+1
I don't think I would get just a MC box, as I already am storage room short...
BUT, I couldn't pass up the combo of MC and KC boxes!
Who needs logic anyway?
-
Countme in for one, raffle or purchase, would love to see the disclaimer a touch larger :)
-
Indeed! I'd love to be included in raffle but also pick one up! Thanks. :)

I don't think any of you that want in are part of the F-eBay club' especially you mrhaboobi but hey I will open it up to people with a 200 post count as well, incase the f eBay crew do not want in.
Here is the club... Look for your name... Or sign up... Read the first post to see if ya qualify.

Edit: you want a Keith courage box? Ok then, done
-
I just thought the F-EBay crew was thrown in as a joke because honestly I don't think anyone on this forum likes game prices on ebay. Didn't know there was actually a club. Hah
-
Keith, there is more to the club then just ebay prices... Like I said check it out I am sure you qualify.
-
dang i need to up my post count! these look great btw, an awesome contribution to the community.
-
I am soooo looking forward to seeing the KC box. Cool raffle Sparks! You have a great looking box there! Ha!
I can't even afford the PCE version of Chase. :(
-
So give us a run down n the febay club, because I still use eBay for the very odd thing, haven't sold anything in years there and tend to try and trade rather than sell. If you are opening to 200 posts that's awesome, I need to talk to you about the inserts you made as well :)...
-
Sparks!! Here you are!!
Please enter me, slowly and gently!
Looks fantastique, great work!

I gave the link man to read up on about 5 replys above. It's ok to use eBay but.....
Can I also ask why you want a custom mc box and some inserts since you have a complete collection already?
I appreciate the interest but I don't get it?.
-
Hey Sparky! Please add me to the raffle. Just don't enter me. :D

Couple of reasons, I like all things turbo, official or homebrew so I like to support whoever does something.. Hence the reason I was happy to pay. I can't contribute like you can in these ways, not skilled enough, but still support however I can. And yes I have a complete collection, but it's still cool to have other bits to put on display, I take the odd bit to my work place, not keeping a magical chase there, but a repo box would be cool.. Plus I can't keep everything on display, lost too many cool things to breakin, but with these I can put out with no fear of being stolen. Hopefully some of that makes sense. :) I'll send you a pm about the inserts.. And read the link. The box does look really cool, if you didn't want the writing you could always remove the barcode to separate it as a repro
-
Yes your reply made sense to me.... Thank you
but you don't need to support me, as I am not out for the cash just for the guys that need it..and you have been interested in those inserts for about a year now :P.. Your just a random guy that always posts in the swap shop. hope some of this makes sense to you :)
-
Add me, please. Thanks!
-
I've got my tube of KY ready for ze entering!
I'd also happily buy a Keith Courage box. Sparky does good stuffs.
-
That is so cool. I will throw my hat in the ring for this one.
-
Please enter me. :)
I've hung onto my original copy of MC to this day and would still have the box if my Dad hadn't tossed it after I specifically asked him not to. :P
-
very nice job, sparky. why not putting your legendary "no-bay" mark on it too? :P
-
you want a Keith courage box? Ok then, done
Absolutely! A KK box is in keeping with your projects like spine stickers for the later hucards, stickers/tray inserts for GOT and Duo Ys - It would be another ADD to the turbo line.
Other items where cardboard boxes could add a new item without needing the "this is a copy" disclaimer:
System 2.0 Chip
Super System 3.0 Chip
Any of the CD games that didn't originally come with boxes
Homebrews - with developer permission, of course
I personally think it's silly to fuel the demand for "needing" an item by catering to a high dollar/rare item. But if you need that as reason, since the Turbo was released - there hasn't been anything rarer than a Keith Courage box. Though some of the items I mentioned above are equally rare. ;)
-
Sparky, I'd seriously like to see your talents spent creating a box for Keith Courage.
That's an awesome idea!
-
Guys I am still here and will add your names.. Work is being a dirty dog.. Will resurface soon.
And yes I will start on a Keithy box when time permits.
Group hug.
-
Wow, that custom box looks awesome!

YOU SAY: A cute little box is up for raffle.

Sparks add me if you might. thanky.
-
Wow, these look great. Wish I was more than just a lurker here.

Ya sorry miracle warrior, it's all about the community and giving back, join in more man and you can join in on my future raffles. That said letting this carry over a bit longer.. Looking into the box styrofoam piece, I think I can get something very close to the original.
-
That's fair! I am definitely not an active member here, although the community does seems quite welcoming. I have only really have been a contributing member at gametz, just seemed tough to build rep across all the different gaming forums out there. I'll work on it here though and hope to take part in your next one :)
-
I had some dealings with Miracle Warrior on gametz years ago.... Cool dude. Hes in Canada too if I remember right.

Draw will be on Sunday, thanks for your patience guys.... Hugs

Ha ha! Awesome! I'll let you know if that shit finds it's way up to Ottawa.
Where the hell do you even buy styrofoam nowadays?
-
I got it at Home Depot.. The thinest sheet they have is 5/8. I put it in a vice and it made it close to the original :)

:-({|= Hi :-({|=
Just wanted to say "Wow!"
That MC repro box looks absolutely amazing. I hope (is that even a word?) that by the time you have them legitimately for sale that I meet the requirements to maybe purchase one, yesh?
Or I could offer a back rub to persuade, hmm-hmm? :3
I don't have The Chase of Magicals, though one day I hope (that word again) that I can at least obtain it loose, or at least get a pc engine copy for decent-o price perhaps-ish. which leads me into a question thingy sort of deal..
Has anyone ever looked into a reproduction manual of MC, like are there scans out there or something and junk? I would love to hold that manual... and pretend... that I... actually had that somewhat better than decent shmup/c'mup... A man can dream, yesh?
My heart... XOXOXO <3
-
Woot! Thanks so much, Sparky! I don't know if you have my new address so I'll shoot you a PM.
Congrats to the others!
And thanks again!
-
Has anyone ever looked into a reproduction manual of MC....
Sparky's made nice looking inserts for Magical Chase (amongst others) which aren't complete manuals but are a great way to give looseys a home.
-
Thanks Sparky! I sent you a PM w/my address.
-
seeing as NZ is kinda backwards we have lots of sizes of poly, i might be able to help source sheets of the stuff, the real challenge is getting it cut square, other than a sharp knife, anyone have thoughts?
-
I filled my boxes with extruded poly (its higher density is better for crush protection and I couldn't find better eps), cutting it with a retractable snap-off blade thingy. If you can't get square cuts, try some sort jig to hold the blade perfectly vertical (something like this (http://www.amazon.com/Logan-Graphic-Products-Cutters-straight/dp/B004P2ZTQE/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1393446058&sr=8-5&keywords=logan+mat+cutter) but with a longer blade), or maybe a hot knife.

I was thinking about repro trays the other day after we were discussing vacuum forming in the chatbox. If you had a decent model of the original I bet you could vacuum form some decent replacements.

Couldn't that be achieved by sacrificing one tray? Just turn it upside down and fill it with plaster or bondo or whathaveyou? Once its set, you'd have the perfect mold.
Yup.
Im asking a local company what the cost would be, they do small order plastic forming and injections moulds, but as im overseas its probably not as cost effective for me to send to the US..
Otherwise some home job might do the job as a trial.
