Post by: Otaking on February 25, 2014, 07:05:17 AM
What are your top 3 favorite gaming youtube channels?

Here's my top 3, I've been watching all three since they first started on youtube.

1:The Game Chasers
http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC78PzEVn5zWK4No0dPQHVQw

2: HappyConsoleGamer
http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2vUKoTGIwNYq4LO0YWKPIg

3: Turbo Views

Game Chasers don't know shit about games except how much they cost.  When they asked Jay and the other panelists what game was the most precious to them in their entire collection during a Q and A at Magfest, everyone else answered almost immediately.  He faltered and then asked "You mean which one is worth the most money?"

I think that sums it up pretty well.

I don't see the appeal of the Happy Console Gamer!  He's knowledgeable and he has a nice pile of games but he just, like, talks?  I'm not his friend.  I don't really care to see that.  Plus his shelves are REALLY ugly.  Don't buy a game for a week or two and invest into that.

Turbo Views is great because the Turbo is so neglected in the retro scene and Chris Bucci is an awesome dude who you can tell has a real love for the games.

My picks would be:

Game Sack
http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT6LaAC9VckZYJUzutUW3PQ

Joe brings amazing production values to the show, and both dudes are knowledgeable and care about the games.  I can do without the fanboy personas but I get the feeling they're a bit exaggerated to give the show some flavor.  I don't always agree with what they say but they know what they're talking about and they play f*cking EVERYTHING.  If you do a show on the X68000 you are legit as f*ck, sorry.

Splash Wave
http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtt_NEKZ4MoH4O7BT3SbXTA

Awesome looking euro-centric retrospectives by Strafefox.  Just watch a couple.  It's criminal he gets so few views and lazy garbage like Game Grumps or PewDiePie are incredibly famous.

The Happy Video Game Nerd
http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5Xeb9-FhZXgvw340n7PsCQ

I don't like his stupid face and I don't like his stupid wine, but I can't argue that he has done some great reviews for some great games over the years.

Honorable mention goes to Roo from 16-bit Gems.  I just love that guy.

I enjoy happy console gamer, but i wouldn't consider him a top youtube video game channel. The 3 you mentioned are all great, and 2 of them happen to be my favorite. I also love Roo 16-bit gems. I wish he would make more videos. The happy video game nerd is pretty great as well. He sure knows how to get you excited for a game.

Anyway, my 3 are

1. turbo views
Chris B. does an amazing job in explaining the game, and getting you excited to play it. Production values are amazing as well.

2. game sack
Joe and Dave work really well together. They make the show fun and knowledgeable, and don't just spit out facts about the game, but what they enjoy and dislike as well

3. The backlog with Joe Walker
This show hasn't been on youtube for awhile but i like the fact that he talks about obscure cheap games

Game Sack <- Miles above everything I've watched
TNT Amusements
Chrontendo <- HA! as if he posts regular.

Honorable mentions: boogie2988, Classic Game Room, Retroware(Video Game Years and a few others shows), Retro Hardware

The ppl that yell and jerk off to the r@rez do not do it for me.

Here's some ones no one has mentioned:

Slaughter's House Live is a great channel - he posts pretty regularly and focuses mainly on Arcade and AV nerd stuff. He knows what he's talking about and has a very nice setup (nice apt. too). Appears to give a shit about production quality; it's decent:
http://www.youtube.com/user/jasoncslaughter

Greg Stewart's Generation 16 - another awesome Chrontendo-ish channel for Sega Master through Genesis:
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9D5F481536776B3A

SegaBits' "My Life with Sega" - not the most technical series in the world but it's entertaining:
http://www.youtube.com/user/SEGAbits/playlists?sort=dd&view=50&shelf_id=8

Also Love:
Game Sack - no introduction needed

Chrontendo - I'm completely addicted to this show and Dr. Sparkle always digs up amazing nuggets of info I didn't know before. Just finished watching ChronTurbo and ChronSega and I'm working on the collossal task of watching the Nintendo portion front to back (50+ hours worth).

Famicom Dojo - more of a fan of their podcast but they've had some decent (if corny) videos over the years: http://www.youtube.com/user/FamicomDojo

Meh:
HappyConsoleGamer - no ill will towards the guy, and he is very knowledgeable. His shtick just wears on me though. All that stuff on his shelf is getting absolutely crushed by the stacking weight.

Not a fan:
Game Chasers - no idea how this show is as popular as it is. It's like watching a badly produced episode of Storage Wars, and the show is chock full of incorrect facts and assumptions about the games themselves.

hmm

1. Game Sack - i like that even though the show is usually around 30 mins it goes by very quickly, a feat most youtubers can't really pull off.  The level of production is on point and their selection of games/consoles is great too.  Needs more turbo tho.

2. Game Grumps - most will probably scuff at this choice, but I stand by it.  I think these guys, and most of their off-shoot channels, are pretty funny.  Not for everyone though.

3. Turbo Views - no comment needed, everyone here knows these are great videos.  I would love to see Chris finish reviewing the entire US collection one day, but that is understandably not an easy task.

2. Game Grumps - most will probably scuff at this choice, but I stand by it.  I think these guys, and most of their off-shoot channels, are pretty funny.  Not for everyone though.

It's for people who are a fan of Egoraptor and whoever else is doing it these days.

The games are almost incosequential and caring about games is maybe even a detriment to watching this.

I haven't heard of at least half of the ones listed here so far so I got a lot of viewing to do.  One that I do have subscribed is Metal Jesus.  I like his vids and he does a lot of "Top 10" or "Best of" clips for each system he collects, and if you see his game room it looks like he collects for everything.  Just search for Metal Jesus Rocks on youtube to find his channel.

I don't think I've seen Bullet Heaven (http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc2aNk4wPtcuGyT4ZtSUloA) listed yet, so I'll throw that into the mix.  It's all about shewties, so if that's not your bag, you may want to pass.  But they cover a lot of obey and the production value is really good.  It's a boyfriend/girlfriend thing so they cover a lot of 2-player shmups.

LOVE: Turbo Views and Game Sack

Meh: Game Chasers

While turbo views and game sack are tops my runner ups.

Pushinguproses,if you're into pc adventure games though i watch her video's because i missed out on it's heyday.

Starfefox, like how the person gives a quick run down on the games history etc.
http://www.youtube.com/user/strafefox

Segabits Mylifewithsega,A.J for his look at SEGA games in general is entertaining to me.
http://www.youtube.com/user/segabits

Gamehistorysource,For his let's compare video's from the arcade to the home.

Ser Flash, bulletheaven if you're into shoot'em ups that channel has good reviews.

Honorable mentions the hvgn and roo for 16-bit gems for when they do put up reviews.Yeah i listed more then a top 3,but i thought there worth mentioning.

Hell yes, Bullet Heaven is amazing!  I've watched quite a bit of those.

Metal Jesus Rocks is a pretty cool guy.  He used to work for Lucasarts way back in the day.  His hidden gem videos showed me a few games I didn't know about, so that was pretty great.  He's a bit too much of a collector without any sort of quality filter, though.

From people talking about it on here I'll have to check out Turbo Reviews! But I'm a fan of Pat the NES Punk. His podcast as of late has become an interest to me as well, but that's sort of different from YouTube.

His podcast isn't bad at all.  His videos, however, are riddled with quite possibly the most poorly-acted skits in history.  I feel really embarrassed for him when I watch them.  If someone were to walk in on me as I was watching them it I would feel way more embarrassment than if they had walked in while I was masturbating.

Honorable mention goes to Roo from 16-bit Gems.  I just love that guy.

Speaking of roo for 16-bit games he finally put out a new review  ](*,)

You must be talking about my channel.... I know it's a pretty hard watch.... :(
LOL
^cheap plug

I've actually started watching some of Retro Liberty's NES persuit.

They are yet another one of those 'game chaser' type series', but I actually find their editing skills to be pretty good and some of the stories they share are hilarious.  Anyway, thought I'd share.

All the PC Engine on the shelf makes that video legit.  Seriously though, that wasn't bad at all!  Not at all.

I'm doing something as well and am strongly considering NOT having my shelves of games behind me.  Just to be different.  But I might anyway.

Thanks for the heads up on this! Plok just so happens to be one of my top 5 SNES games. I love the music in that game.

My top 3 are:

1. Game Sack: No Explanation Needed
2. Turbo Views: No Explanation Needed
3. Video Masters TV: I have been a fan of this show for a few years. They cover a wide variety of games for for all systems, both new and old, as well as PC games. In addition, they also talk about obscure B movies, comics and action figures.

A show I used to watch was Retroware TV. Their production value is really high as their video quality is top notch. They cover a wide variety of consoles as well. Their videos actually inspired me to check out the Turbografx when I saw their review for Ninja Spirit. You can tell the hosts are passionate about the games they review, but sometimes they don't get some of their facts straight.

See the thing that i do like is that it is childish. Some of it can be a little "eh", i get what you're saying, but i think similar to (but not the same) AVGN, it just reminds me of when i was younger and made dumb jokes like those. I think that's why a lot of people like AVGN, that and he is pretty funny. Pat's humor is hit or miss but i still take great joy in watching his videos.

AVGN is still kind of stupid, but his acting is entire worlds above what Pat does.

Never been much of a game video person. I watch game videos all the time, but only with gameplay. No annoying Let's Plays or reviews.

I like cubex55 for all the long plays, even if save states. The Neo Geo long plays are only on Level 1 though.

CGR is ok, CGR Undertow is annoying though.

But OK, in truth, AVGN James Rolfe, and HappyConsole Gamer, are my top 2 just in terms of most episodes watched. I just started watching Joe's Game Sack show since his Ys series special and now am subscribed. Great production quality and good fun.
