Title: WWW.NEO-GEO.COM Hacked and Down
Post by: EvilEvoIX on March 14, 2014, 07:45:23 AM
www.neo-geo.com (http://www.neo-geo.com/) has been hacked and is down since yesterday.

 (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a104/evilevo8/Neo Geo Stuff/1529876_10152208921547850_1485024577_o_zps54b588ac.jpg) (http://s10.photobucket.com/user/evilevo8/media/Neo Geo Stuff/1529876_10152208921547850_1485024577_o_zps54b588ac.jpg.html)

It seems like the guy has had it with the site, which has been hacked many times before.  I spoke to the guy on Facebook and it seems like he is quite serious.  What kinda damage can he do?  Can he delete the data from the servers or is it just a simple hijack until the site is returned back to the owner?

Years ago I was part of www.dsmtalk.com (http://www.dsmtalk.com/) and it was hacked by some guy who was obviously really mad and deleted EVERYTHING, I mean everything, so we had to start all over.

It seems to happen at least once a year over there but it only ever affects the front page and not the forums...I didn't even know it had been hacked until I saw posts on other forums.

I was gonna say, "Couldn't happen to a nicer group of guys!"  I'm sorry but due to all the nasty stories I've heard about them over the years, I never plan on joining.

Now before someone says, "You know some people can say the same thing about us." I would counter with,"WTFever, we are way nicer compared to what I hear about those guys!"

Totally. There aren't people here that are rude (except Arkhan, :) ), let alone would scam someone for $30,000.

There are MASSIVE scams on that site and people just keeps spending huge amounts of cash on fake carts, it's world wide too.  I can't believe it it is so hard to collect rarer carts these days for the AES it's just insane.  That said massively entertaining.  The Aerofighters 3 Scam was so in depth that you almost have to respect the scammer, who BTW is still a member despite not paying all the money back.

If Neo-Geo.com went down forever no f*cks would be given. SERIOUSLY. NO. f*ckS.GIVEN. For serious. That shit hole has gotten worse and worse over the years. Used to be I'd at least hear some positive things happen now and then. Now all I hear about is who scammed who and for how much.

@EvilEvoIX  I wouldn't say massive scams.  Stuff like that is actually pretty uncommon over there with the amount of stuff that is actually sold.  I would say it's safer than buying on ebay

Well I have had luck, I have been dealing with that site since 2000 in one forum or another.  I just sold some loose MVS carts.  But $30,000 a cart for fake Aerofighters, it's nuts.

Pretty ironic to see people here talking about the atmosphere at NG.com.  It's more similar to this place than to any other gaming forum that I can think of.

Not really. Similar, due to being about a niche console, but NG is a lot more vile. Way way larger, way way more inflated egos involved. There is a great tech support setup there, but outside of that the drama is a lot worse. Back stabbing admins/mods, lots of shill bidders, flippers, high dollar scammers constantly appearing, drug dealers, Neotropolis, supposed framed murderers, etc. All this shit over a system that had what, maybe 160 games to its name, most of which can be beaten in under 40 mins?

This forum is smaller and more maintained, and we don't have people bickering about prior drug deals, $30k scams, or murder trials. We have our problems here, but in no way do they compare to those of the Neo forums.

Also, and this will always be a stickler for me. When Dean was having issues prior there and I called him out for it, I remember taking a lot of flak for it there, even though I was in the right. Dean was having major customer service issues, the writing was on the wall. The same people then turned on Dean themselves eventually when it became self serving. When he went back there to try to make things right they tore him apart, again. I believe one of them, the stone throwers, Tonk, was then themselves involved in the 30k scam.

For all of Dean's f*ck ups, his was more of a issue about taking on too much work, not knowing when to just f*cking say no. He never went out of his way to scam anyone with fake carts and other shit. He didn't deserve the treatment he got when he went back to make things right, so that one rubbed me a bit wrong. He isn't the only one I have known to have issues there, none there own fault (quoth09 comes to mind). Wasabi and others seemed to have a hard on for starting shit and being an all around ass with moderator abuse or jacking up post counts with hard core trolling being their daily goal.

If Neo-Geo.com was an actual building with all those characters residing in it, and they had a fire..... Well, I cant think of too many people outside of actual members there who would oppose of dousing the place with a lot of gas to make sure it burned down proper..... Then, like when they fire a mini nuke at Louisville, Kentucky in ROTLD, I'd not be surprised if we did the same. It's the only way to be sure. A place with so low a moral compass as Neo-Geo.com shouldn't exist. The NeoGeo was a good system that can stand on its own and has a fan base on about any game system forum. It doesn't need a wanna be version of the Secret Society of Super-Villains to champion it.

www.neo-geo.com (http://www.neo-geo.com/) is full of savages, they love to argue.  I deal with only a few people on there.  But yes the drama is basically embellished and they are proud of that.  But yeah murders, theft, deception, fake carts, massive wars and complete and total sociopathic behavior. Our site has skirmishes but it doesn't compete on any level that www.neo-geo.com (http://www.neo-geo.com/)

What I know about NeoGeo.com is limited to: 1) they had a member that wound up killing someone as mentioned, so they've had a killer in their ranks, and 2) my criminal translating ex-partner in Ys fan projects, DeuceBag (Jeff Nussbaum), used to hang out there for years and eventually cock-flashed them as a result of his ego (started cock-bragging there) and getting dared... Maybe that naked guy with the NeoGeo carts covering his private parts had something to do with it as well, like a tradition he thought he'd add on too, I dunno, or a porno-star wannabe sentiment somewhere, but whatever the case, given what others have also mentioned, they've achieved legendary status that no forum family will be ever able to top I should think. ;)

So, the list is something like, what: killers, cock-flashers, scammers/thieves, back-stabbers (DeuceBag belongs in that category as well), etc. ?? ;)

This is the same Dean that was here at pcefx, correct (I forget his moniker here, but it was connected to pop music, my mnemonic device is failing me...)?

Anyway, I forget the details, but you called him out here, too, IIRC. He eventually (year+ later?) made amends with everyone at pcefx, I believe.

If you are still in touch with quoth09, give him a big hug and hello from me. He helped me out years ago (trying to find CD+G albums, not karaoke crap) and I appreciated the time and energy he put into it.  (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

BACK ON TOPIC: I am glad pcefx has not yet become a cesspool like NEOGEO.com

Shame, it was the Neo's only true (and good) RPG. I love the Samurai Shodown series, and would have loved to play it. Crap like Crossed Swords doesn't count.

What as the whole murder thing about? That sounds bizarre.

Also, the naked dancing man with his home carts, was a 'response" to some author of a very inaccurate article on the Metal Slug series from Retro Gamer.

http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?196192-Retro-Gamer-magazine-s-terrible-Metal-Slug-feature-reviewed!

And off-topic, but SNK Playmore sucks.

The naked dancing Asain is ROT, easily their best member save for JMKURTZ.  He is do honest and forthcoming, even posted his home and number to prove he wasn't some nameless troll.  Excellent sense of humor as well.  That said I hope the place does burn to the ground one day.

I'm also upset about the failure of the SSRPG Translation, that would be epic.  I have the game but now I need to make a Japanese friend.

I'm not exactly a regular there, but I enjoy chatting with cdamm and rot occasionally and check up on some conversations threads.  Never had issues with members and every transaction I've attempted there has worked without issue.

Would have sucked if another option like n-g.com would have gone under for good.  Glad to see it's back up.

The guy I bought my first AES from got gutted and eviscerated publicly on the forums over there for what seemed to be a minor issue with another transaction...like literally something that was a mistake that people took out of context and lynched him over. That was my first indication that I didn't want to spend too much time there...

Oh yeah they do that!  However I got my first AES modded by JMKURTZ with bios and s-video over a decade ago.  It started my love affair with SS2.  My God it's a perfect game.

Have an account there, but I don't spend much time on n-g.com as it isn't the kind of environment I feel comfortable with. People think its hard being a newbie on this forum... well that place is 10x worse to get started at. Show a difference in opinion with one of the vets over there and get the circle jerk mob sent after you. There is definitely a few good eggs out of the bunch who are more than happy to help you out if you need it. They aren't all bad.

Off topic, but I got SamSho III. So different than SamSho II. Any tips?

Inferior cart version?  Ever try to play KOF 99 on any cd system including the CDZ?  I'm not a huge fan of the re-arranged music but I get it's appeal.  Anyone who touts cd over the carts for any other reason besides cost is in deep denial.  However I think as long as you gave an AES or Mvs a cd system is a great addition but my god the loading takes away the arcade experience completely which is what the neo is about.  Lost frames of animation, smaller sprites for what?  An art page?  Training in metal slug?  Not worth it, a curiosity at best and I have a CDZ, it collects dust unless I feel like playing view point.

Again, it depends. I said Samurai Shodown II is better because of soundtrack, but load times are very bearable (like 15 sec per character, and maybe 5 if you died). KOF 96 is unbearable in team mode, but is good in single character mode.

Off-topic but related:  Say I want to get myself a nice CMVS, and assuming I don't really care about buying up a whole lot of carts, what are my options to play on real hardware?  I heard about all in one's but I hear the quality of some is questionable.

I have SSIII On my AES and MVS.  It's damn near broken meaning A solid hit removes 55% of life in some characters.  The hit box is wonky as well, just a tip counts as a full hit.  That said come hard and fast, I use the main protagonist and just litter the field with the projectile storm or cheap sliding kicks followed by weak stabs.  This isn't a chess match like 2 do you really need to be aggressive.

The folks over at neo-geo.com actually fixed the game to make the damage less and the hotbox smaller,as is an entire match can be done in under a min.

Off-topic but related:  Say I want to get myself a nice CMVS, and assuming I don't really care about buying up a whole lot of carts, what are my options to play on real hardware?  I heard about all in one's but I hear the quality of some is questionable.

You could always get a Super Gun and a Mvs 1- slot.  That way you can get other arcade boards as well.

If you don't have money to buy a cmvs you could consolized one yourself. The other option to find a supergun and run a mvs board that way. When i bought my cmvs years ago it was from a member over at neo-geo.com,it's rather basic and not fancy compared to a omega cmvs but it works like it should.Though prices have been going up for mvs because there are more cmvs out there.Still if you don't care for originals copies there are multicarts.

My hod it's a perfect game.

Meh, I have it on my Neo Geo CDZ. Why bother with an inferior cart version, when you can have not only perfect gameplay AND perfect arranged music?

I've only played it once so far due to its difficulty. The hit box is strange, though. You can be standing right next to your opponent, but any slash will not register.

Well it is VERY hard.  If you really want send the game to the folks over at www.neo-geo.com (http://www.neo-geo.com/) and they can "Fix" the game for you.  Otherwise it's a real blood fest and he brave and ultra-violent are rewarded with victory.

EvilEvoIX, do you know if the Neo Geo CD version supports a patch?

Also, any general tips for playing the game, besides being offensive? I am playing as Amakusa (he is my favorite villain in the series). I can get past a few opponents, but some combos from the enemy do inconsistent damage. Also, how do I get used to using the AB dodge? The teleports work ok, but how can I throw my enemy?

I doubt it.  I am sure it is possible but the MVS Cart is cheap enough I say just go for that.  Try Pressing BC together for a close attack.  Throwing an enemy you have to press towards your enemy and throw by attacking close. You really need to read all the controls and practice a specific strategy you are comfortable with.  Neo Fighting games have extreme depth and just can't be button mashed.

Well, I guess I managed to beat it today, lol. Level 4 difficulty (normal)

I used Slash Amakusa. Used a strategy where I would use crouching medium slash when an opponent jumped. Also, I learned that Amakusa could wall jump, so I already became better. Leg slide is useful sometimes.

I've only really used teleports and fireballs. I'm not sure how use to utilize my moves. Future playthroughs maybe.

The hardest characters I think are probably Rimururu (her ice spirit) and Gaira (he is extremely strong, though slow)

Zankuro is probably the only true character where I can button mash a lot. It took a few tries, but I only used strong slash during the battle with him. Zankuro's AI doesn't seem to adapt much.

Neo Fighters Rule, they border on RPGFighting Games.  SSIV has a timer where you need to get to the end before your nemesis does or you have to fight him after he dispatches the boss.  Such amazing depth and style.  I have V as well, another amazing game with gruesome fatalities.

I will give it that the giant drama threads are absolutely hilarious.
I love the Messy Mod Work thread, it was largely responsible for driving Drakon and his horrible mod work off much of the web and should serve as a great inspiration for beginning modders on what not to do.

That's one of the three I had in mind. I was quite pleased when having joined here to see you and others laughing him out of town here too.

The messy mod work is a great thread. Having less than zero mod skills it's kind of a background check for me in case I do need some work done.

I just feel comfortable there. Most new people fit in there fine. I notice those who don't, seem to have issues wherever they go. Post something outlandish calling it a fact, get called out when it's proven wrong and argue incessantly that you're right while insulting others.

In other words, what a bunch of members do there on a regular basis.

And not all of them! I don't want to paint too broad of a brush. If more members were like you and less like some others, it'd be a much better environment.

Well thank you!

When I joined, I caught Hell (from some) since I had bought a CMVS from an unpopular modder and mentioned it. People thought I might be a fake account or joined to praise/bitch about the modder. I just remained myself and it all worked out.
