Alright I have heard tons of stories on how many copies of the us Magical chase were made. Does anyone have a real idea as too that amount? Maybe how many might be in the wild today? Heard rumors that some French guy was buying up alot of copies in the last 5 years.... Anyone?....
-
There is no known. Everything we think we think we know is conjecture, educated guesses, and tea leaf readings. Does it really matter anyway?
That said, let's say there's 500 of 'em out there. Maybe 2500 were made - 1500 destroyed on liquidation - 500 lost to sands of time = 500 left over for collectards to call their precious and fap themselves silly over.
-
Alright that gives me some better of an idea then...
-
i remember many years back one particular person buying up alot of copies, i cant remember his name though, for some reason i thought he was in a wheelchair though if that rings a bell for anyone. i checked my emails but cant find it.. hell i even have emails from wmac from 2009.. crazy...
-
That was me. And, btw, it is no longer a wheelchair; now I rock a mobility scooter with diamond encrusted gold spinner wheels.
Was it? i seem to remember a really different email address and ebay username, this was in the days when aesmasterauto.... etc was still just starting out.
-
So my guess about someone buying copies was right then. It would be safe to say that there are about 500 copies left in the wild then?
-
god only knows...
-
How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop?

There have been more than a few threads on this already. But that number would be on the high end of estimates.
-
Alright enough about that. How about the pc engine version and the fan version?...
-

Thousands of each, probably tens of thousands of the PCE version.
-
That's quite a bit. Now here is something I wounder about. Why is a game like Darius alpha with a lower production number so much easier to get hands on? There is almost always a copy on e-bay.
-
Because it's not a US game. Simple as that.
There are dozens of people on here that are actively seeking out teh rarez US games and probably just one looking for JP stuff.
-
Alright then. Are you almost close to finishing your collection? What do you have left? I have 6 cd games to go to have them all...
-
I'm probably as close as I'll ever be, as I'm in no rush to a hollow victory of completing a collection that means nothing to me other than a "complete collection to sit on the shelf".
-
Darius Alpha is just a boss rush. save your money for the caravan cards
-

Sounds like some solid investing! How many copies of Magical Chase did the diamond/gold rims set you back?

Madboom, before you start pouncing on random numbers to repost on your blog or racketboy, do some real research. We've had a lot of conversations about this topic over the years, including things like primary sources for the size of late-TTI pressings and a guy with bulldozer numbers that supposedly came from Steve at TZD. Do some deep word searches and page back to at least 2006.
Also, revive a relevant thread in the TG discussion. By posting in the sale forums you're going to get more new-collector hearsay and fewer responses from old timers with historical facts. Necro has been around and I don't mean any slight to his estimates, but there are differing opinions on this.
Finally, add something to the conversation. WHERE did you hear rumors about a French hoarder? Be specific, otherwise you're just adding to the murk.
-
Alright, I have done research. That's how I finally ended up on here. I am not some who knows nothing about this. I ask these questions due having talked to other collectors that have been part of this site. They are the ones who told me to come here. I have spoken to Nick aka racketboy, Jose acemastertech and so on. I did not realize that this would be a bashing on for asking questions that I have not been able to get solid answers about. Is this something that is done to all new members or just ones who not aware that these facts were covered at some point? Would you like to have someone jump on you when you are new to a site and curious? That is not a great way to welcome new members. I am trying to get answers and finish what I started. If you have nothing nice to say then maybe you should keep your comments to yourself.
-
You should have followed these two rules before joining this forum (can be applied to any kind of internet message board):
1. Lurk before you post.
2. Use common sense.
Not all forums about retrogaming are copies of NintendoAge.
-
I think there are much more out there than only 500 pcs. it wasn't until recently that it got all super r@@r3z and shit. low print games were rare from begin with, and peeps always knew about that.
-
How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop?
Let's find out. One.. Two.. Three. So Three

I've read every post in this thread, and nowhere does it look like people are "bullying" you or anything of the sort. Its just like people who ask a question, and don't take time to "google it" You said you have researched it yourself, but you haven't talked about that research at all. So how are people supposed to know?
-
I can understand that. It was explained to me that this forum would be a great way to learn more about things that could not be answered by simply searching on the internet. It was also explained to me that people had an open mind on here. It would seem that most of the responses to my posts either get a do more research, use common sense or you know nothing about this stuff. Check into other posts I made. Some of them I tried to stay cool with, while others I lashed out a bit. I am not stating that I am being bullied. I am also not stating that I am a expert of any sort. I am just having a hard time understanding people's need to bash on anything that they do not agree with. If I was here to just (quote) score my games a low prices then why would I ask questions about something I already own? I have tried to be respectful in my answers unless provoked. I mean really? I thought a forum was to learn, share and maybe get some help along the way. Roy told me it would be rough on here so I guess I should have been more prepared...
-
it's only rough here during the few first green weeks. then you either become a cool buddy (like many others have before) or you don't :)
I'm not saying your question was dumb or anything, just saying how it normally is in here and how the wheat is separated from the chaff.
and now I would like to know about your researches for sure :)

Necro has been around and I don't mean any slight to his estimates, but there are differing opinions on this.
Yep, differing opinions. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the closest we've gotten to facts is that 1600 were destroyed (oh noes, I was off a bit!) and that TZD took 100. How many were produced? How many were purchased by the canuck liquidator? Were there other liquidators buying stuff at bankruptcy day and if so, how many MC did they get? How many were picked out of the trash by the sanitation engineers tasked with hauling it all away? How many have been trashed by naive mom's cleaning out their basement/attic? We'll never know.

Donsal (the Canuck distributor) definitely had it on their order form.
I have seen 2 copies in the "wild" here in Southwestern Ontario in the last twenty years, and after seeing that a French manual exists, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Radio Shack was selling them in Canada as well.
If Radio Shack was selling them, then there might be "hundreds" in Canada...
Donsal didn't seem to have a lot of anything though - Dynastic Hero was sold out by the time I tried to order it after only a few months on the price list...
-
I bought Magical Chase at a Canadian Radio Shack up near the Alaskan panhandle. They were everywhere and plentiful for years online. Most people who didn't own one said that they couldn't be bothered to pay $80 for one of the many copies that were always for sale online. But because so many were around, thete was no rush to pick it up. Then the faux-collectors happened.

Madbooms, everyone has been pretty good with you and have even gave some advise on jp games to help you out with your wallet, no one is being even close to nasty, a lot of new guys come here and the majority fit in just fine..
Most of your post are topic posts of "me wants or needs to know" and thats fine but we are just saying to take the time and look around here, search a bit as you think your the first to ask the question your asking? :) it's all good man but you will have to be patient as a lot of us are still looking for the same games and manuals you are.
The Tg16 market has got really stupid over the past few years and ya we have seen our share of new guys coming in as a last resort from there hunt around the world to find those remaining few gems. We get sick of hearing it!
I am actually spotting right now so be careful :P

Sometimes I fart and shit my pants...

Sharting is the worst.... shiiiit pickle

Hey, thanks for the heads up on that... If I was aware of this forum sooner I would have joined way back in the early 2000's There are some questions I was wondering about and have been given info that I already knew. Rather then state everything I knew I just asked first. Listen I play my system every day. Love military madness and neo nectaris. I am a gamer of sorts and a collector. I have figured out that this a more of a gamer's forum now then what I first thought. I might have some of the things that other people need or info that others do not know. I figured I would ask first to feel the waters out. It I got on here and started stating what I knew I figured it would really rub people the wrong way...

That was quite possibly the best list I have ever bothered to read aloud to my entire family at dinner. (might have happened)
I think nullity deserves your copy of Mergical Chasu. Should prrrobably just give it to him. It's a real win-win sitch, my friend...as you'll never ever be lonely again as I'm sure he'll be your new personal leg humper.
Who wouldn't want that, huh?

4. Some newer members seem to be stepping up to the plate and defending the community. I'm sure they mean well. I can't help but feel there is a little bit of emulation going on, but it does seem too severe and out of place at times.

7. No. Go home.
My register date is March 2013 but I swear I was at the turbolist since 1987 obeying PCE at launch. In fact I created the list. Bitches.
-
Someone should really raffle Magical Che Guevara between the old time users (I mean people with 1000+ posts and a good track record) with the following conditions:
1. The winner must obey the crap out of it.
2. He must raffle the same copy again after a set amount of time (2 months?).
That way everyone can have a bite of the Magical Chase huCard. or just buy the JP version
-

I cook a damn good list. List: it's what's for dinner.
also, you're not the hot chick on FB group are you? I know you're a guy here and all, but you make that cthulu smiley thing and so does she. So I had to ask. Because I'm that shallow.
Last time I checked I'm still male. *sigh*
Not a member of the FB group, checked it out, was thinking of joining, could be a possibility in the near future, we'll just have to wait and see.
I'm kind of a shy-tard when it comes to getting super personal status. Could get warmer as time goes on to the point where I'm all like "I wanna have y'all babies, where dat FB group at? I'mma join it so hard!"
Cthulhu? Smiley? this " :3 " one? If so, that's supposed to be a kitty cat, silly billy, mewmewmew.
*purrs*
You're not that shallow, I bet you're up to my neck, cutiepants. (can't tell if I'm being silly or just flirting at this point)
*bedroom eyes*
*a lot*
You might be my favorite.

Yup, yup, I figured it was a hazing of sorts. Just thought I would take the high ground to start..... Now in the near future I will be letting go any of my doubles and an extra system. I don't mean to have as much, but when it falls in your lap....

That girl from the facebook page is from Chicagoland. No way this fellow is her, hehe.

I'm probably as close as I'll ever be, as I'm in no rush to a hollow victory of completing a collection that means nothing to me other than a "complete collection to sit on the shelf".
This is exactly what the rewards are. I have all of them excpet MC and you know what......I still dont have time to do shit with them and I dont even care about them anymore. Its the thrill of hunting something down, after that.....its empty abyss......

My "hunt" is not an active one. If I see one of the games in my signature for a decent price, I'll make the effort to pick it up. But I'm fully aware and fine with the fact that outside of Soldier Blade, I'll probably never pick up the rest of the games in my sig.
-
Much more important questions are:
How man Turbo fans are there?
How many resellers and "collectards" are sitting on multiple copies?
The number of copies of a game is meaningless on its own and just as impossible to narrow down as a tangible figure of "demand" is.
-
Alright, I have done research. That's how I finally ended up on here.
So you researched your way to second Google result for "turbo grafx forum." Good work, gumshoe.
I did not realize that this would be a bashing on for asking questions that I have not been able to get solid answers about. Searching for past topics, posting on the correct subforums, and citing sources is basic etiquette for ANY forum. Heck, it's basic etiquette for communication.
You come here two weeks ago and post entirely in the sale forum, you skip the intro thread, you don't bother to use the search function or check for past topics, you post in the wrong forum, you spread hearsay, and then you're offended that someone would remind you of basic procedures. Well, f*ck you buddy. Don't bluster into places like an a$$hole and maybe people will be nicer.

Dude, you really need to do something better with your time... Mistakes get made, life goes on.... Let's grow up and move ahead.

I don't care if they're a true gamer, reseller, or collectard. If they're sitting on it... f*ck them! Turbob games ain't cushions, dumbasses. That wouldn'teven be comfortable Iin the least.
by the way, is anyone looking for the hookup on sealed Sonic Spike? I've got like a million of the things!
You're totes joking, but if you do..
1. Yer a butt.
2. Yer a butt.
3. I don't have it.
4. How much?
5. I would definitely open dat, ah-derr.
