Seeing as how Munchiaz had a pretty successful group buy with the Mega Everdrive, would anyone care to go in on one the SD2SNES flash carts? There would be a savings of $35, which would bring the total price down to $155 a piece. I am getting married in a few weeks, and then moving, plus MGC as well so this may not happen instantly. So be forewarned. I just wanted get a feel for what could be an excellent opportunity for ten of us.
With the rising costs of retro games these flash carts are a saving grace for old fogeys like us that just want to play games on original hardware. We might as well pick up a flash cart for the three 16-Bit consoles that really mattered while we have the chance. :)

Is that $155 with the shell?

Is that $155 with the shell?
Oops I forgot about that. Add $15 for the shell.
-
I'm a bit interested as well, but would need to wait a bit before having the cash for it. Are there any games ROMS that don't work with this type of flash cart?
-
Id be in but I need to wait a bit.
-
You can count me in too.
-
I'd be in, with the same caveat. Need some time to gather up the funds.
Xele, the SD2NES supports just about everything, when compared to the other SD carts.
I would need one with a SFC shell, just saying. :D
-
the only games people care about that it doesn't support are Super FX games, Kirby 3 + SUperstar, and Mario RPG
-
No problem waiting a bit. Like I said I have a lot going on as well. I'm patient so I'll wait around as long as needed.
-
Mark me down for interested! I need to upgrade from the PowerPak
-
i am interested as well!
-
I've added all those interested. We still need three more.
-
Great idea Matt, I wanted this also, count me in!
Did somebody do this for Turbo Everdrive BTW ? I still haven't gotten one so if enough people are game, count me in that too.
-
Yea count me in for the Turbo Everdrive too if somebody decides to do a group but on that one too.
-
I'd be in on a Turbo Everdrive too but it may be a while before I can swing the cash.
-
Id sign up but i all ready have a super everdrive. Not to mention my $ is tied up currently.
-
Sign me up:)

Looks like your group buy recruitment is going to be successful, one more person needed.
-
I'd be in but I recently got the super ufo pro 8, for what it is and what it does, I can't really complain.
-
I may have our tenth member. Everyone please let me know if you are ready. If you are not I will wait on you.
-
so is it $155 with the shell? I would need an SFC shell.
-
damn, i'm really gonna kick myself one day for not going in on all of these.
-
so is it $155 with the shell? I would need an SFC shell.
Yes I believe so.
Edit: I need to verify this with the vendor.
-
If I didn't just pick up a N8 and a TG16 Everdrive I would be so in..... But this is next on my list.
-
I'm ready whenever everybody else is. If some people have to wait its fine by me or if we do this right away its also no problem.
-
Hey guys, bad news, it's gonna be $170 for each of us if we want the shell, and we do, because that thing is gonna be too precious to leave lying around without plastic protection... I don't think you could use some old SNES cart either if you had one.
http://shop.retrogate.com/SD2SNES-SD2SNES.htm
But FYI, I just PM'ed krikzz on Youtube and asked him if he'd be willing to negotiate a deal. I offered $1,600 with plastic shells, so we'll see if he bites... Thus, that'd be $160 for each of us. I'll let ya know if I get a response.

That's sucky, but otherwise awesome. Thanks for the help! :)
-
Sounds good. The shell is a must. I'll check my budget and give you an estimate time frame soon.
-
Still haven't heard from him on any deal. Yesterday I used his http://shop.retrogate.com/contactus.sc form to try there, but that mailer script failed because it didn't like my yahoo.com email account. However, the mailer daemon failure notice showed me his actual gmail account, so I mailed to that directly, and also retried his form using my gmail account. If he never responds, I'll be getting a sense that he just likes to stick behind his online pricing, and a take-it-or-leave-it approach. But I'll wait as he may just not have logged in to his Youtube account to have seen the original message from last week.
-
I'll see how Munchiaz contacted him.

if this offer is still around after my vegas trip may 13th i may be down for one
-

It's taking a while to get a hold of the seller so.....
That would make a possible 11 people which I doubt would make a difference.

Again I need to know who's ready and who isn't. It's okay if you aren't, just please let me know an answer. :)
-
Not ready... Need two weeks if possible

Im ready

Did we get a price range for the shells?
I would need a few more weeks. Mid to end of May.
-
I'm ready, will be in Vegas first week of May though so payment needs to happen before or after that :)

Would have been awesome if you were there the weekend of May 9th, ill be there that weekend

I'd rather shoot for the second half of May as well, as I think it would give everyone enough time to get funds together if needed.
Was the pricing on everything ever confirmed?

Yea definitely. We are going for my bros birthday and he is going to the Mayweather fight (I passed on that - way too expensive for tickets). I can't wait to be sitting at the pool drinking in the sunny 90 degree weather! So tired of all the shit weather we have had here over the past 5 months!
-
I am ready when ever.
I do suggest that PMs go out to the individual buyers when you are coordinating and collecting, rather than a post in the thread.

Good, let's keep this open then. Krik still hasn't responded and now I'm trying to see if a deal for 15 orders would get his attention (last ditch effort). He logged into his Youtube account 3 days ago, so he IS around... But you know what though, if I don't hear from him, I might just bow out, let munchiaz take my 10th spot if that's OK with you, Matt... Sorry, I hate to back out, but I'm not crazy about the $170 with the shell (and that's the only way I would want it) and he's pissing me off now by not responding with anything so far. It's like, c'mon, just gimme a counter-offer, or something, tell me what your ball park range would be or if you simply refuse anything other than the pricing on your website, etc...
-
That's too bad he hasn't replied. Then again "Real Life" has a way of getting into gaming bidness!
-
Alright, I got an instant response today, go figure:
Hi, I'm sorry but i thought that i had already answerd you.
I can offer you the Shell for 10$ i can't go donwn bc I would make minus if i sell less then these.
Second reson is that we have a lot of wholesale buyer which we are working together since a long time and it wouldn't be faire for them
if will offer you more discount.
Regards
Andrew
$155+$10 = $165 x 10 = $1,650
He's offering $5 bucks off the shell (from $15 to $10), thus $165 for everybody +S/H after... How Matt is gonna handle shipping/handling cost is another issue as well. Anyway, I thought about it some more and decided I will in fact bow out, Matt... He didn't offer anything lower with a possible 15 members on the unit price, and $5 bucks off the shell doesn't make it that much more appealing. I want it, but then again I'm wondering just how much will I use it... At this cost, it's hard to justify. Anyway, you still got your 10 needed participants and every one after that would mean yet another person you'll have to ship to, so less work for you with just the needed 10 minimum. Just mention the deal he offered here when finally ready to place the order.
-
I personally think $15 for a shell is kind of crazy since you can buy cheapo SNES games for less than that. But I guess they are doing nice cutouts for the cards/switches.

The finishing on the cart is well done, and it looks like a polished, well put together product. I've used them before.
I can see his point of view, to an extent, on the pricing.
hmmmm....
-
Well, I gotcha guys $5 bucks off at least... unless somebody else wants to try their bartering skillz with the guy. ;)
-
yeah, i want one of these but for the price and the fact that im moving at the end of May, unless i make some money gambling in Vegas, its looking like a no right now
-
So I guess we are back to only 9 people in? :?:
-
Sorry to hear you two are not participating but I understand. I didn't realize all that would be required to do such a purchase. I want the cart. Bad. Since my wife really wants to play that translated Sailor Moon RPG it's been my goal to get one. But with moving and starting a new life I am not sure I can take on the responsibility right now to make this happen. If someone wants to take over I'll just become a participant. Is that cool with everyone?

Depending on when this is supposed to go down, I can handle the logistics of it. Im out of town until star wars day (May 4) and out of money until at least a week after that ;) If everyone interested can wait that long I'll take charge.
-
I'm good with waiting, end of May works out WAY better for me.

Good save, Bryon! With the leader bowing out as well, this group-buy was heading towards being a big bust... ;)
Let's see how the math works out for this thing:
1) At $165 per unit with shell (with the -$5 deal he offered), 10 buyers, that's $1,650 and figure maybe $20 in shipping for this box of 10 to go to Bryon. Splitting that ~$20 cost by 10 buyers, that's another $2 bucks each. Thus, $167 per buyer so far.
2) The order/box arrives at Byron's home, now he has 10 people to ship it out to. Let's estimate $6 bucks each, so that's now $60 bucks he must spend and collect, and so the cost per buyer is now at ~$173.
3) Buying it individually with the shell meant paying $205 + $5 S/H, so $210. So, that's a potential savings of $37 bucks ($210-$173) for all this trouble... Depending on what shipping actually costs, from producer to Byron, and then to you, and Byron adjusting for his time as well, you're looking at a savings of ~$20-$30...
Well, I dunno, it's tough on whoever wants to lead this thing... But, this is probably the cheapest that you'll ever be able to get it... And for 'used' ones, we know they'll just get gouged on eBay like that clown that tried to sell a Turbo Everdrive for double...
-
Still need 10 people otherwise this can still be a bust
-
Beemer gets big Matt hug! If you can swing this I am still all in as a participant.
Sorry again, everybody.
-
Honestly they should be able to safely ship in a padded mailer 1st class for $2-$3 if people wanted or like NW said about $6 for priority in a small flat rate box. After mailing hundreds of sapphires out this shouldnt be a problem ;)
-
Whenever you guys are ready whether it be today or next month you can count me in.
-
What timeframe are we looking at right now?
-
I'm good for the end of May. I think that would give me plenty of time.
-
Lets shoot for end of May. That will give me time to get my stuff in order and hopefully give everyone time to get their moneys in order too.
DuoR!!! Make us some custom cases! :D

Sounds good to me!
-
Things should be settled down by the end for May. Either way Baby needs her translated Sailor Moon RPG on real hardware stat! :D
-
is this group buy deal dead if not I would be down
-
Its waiting for me to be done moving then it will come back to life!
-
Meh, kinda sore I backed out of this one as that's the best deal you're ever gonna get for it... It's just hard to justify spending that much when I know it's not something that'll get used frequently. I think I'll get some decent usage out of a Turbo Everdrive on my Turbo Express and it's under a hundred, ~$71-$75 via a group buy, so win-win, a justifiable luxury expense, etc.
-
I'm hoping this group buy isn't dead, I'm still in if I'm given enough notice ahead of time.
-
Itll come back to life once Im finished moving.
-

When will you be finished moving? i May jump in on this depending on the time
-
If I can land a new job by the time Beemer has moved, I am SO IN, still... :D
-
I move this Friday but give me a week or two to get settled in.
-

Awesome!
Hope the move went smooth.
-
My wife was really wanting to play a translated Sailor Moon RPG so we went half on a SD2SNES a while back. They ship out of Germany so expect a good while for it to ship out to ya. Good luck with the group buy guys. You too on your move, Beemer.
-
Does this cart offer any significant advantages over the PowerPak, other than being able to play CX4 games (MM X2 and X3 are the only ones I know of) and not pretending to have Game Genie support that doesn't actually work?
Not knocking it as I love my two other Everdrives, just trying to see if I could justify an upgrade, but it doesn't look it.
-
It's supposed to play any SNES game that had added chips like Pilotwings. What I've heard is that it's fully compatible with the exception of Super FX games. They are still working on the firmware. I believe the flash cart options are much expanded over the regular Everdrive.
-
does this support the SA1 chip? looking at the retrogate website, it doesnt look like it.
-

I found this list (http://sd2snes.de/blog/compatibility) with a quick Google search. No SA-1 games and no SuperFX games. So, it will play Megaman X2 and X3 which the Powerpak does not, but still not Starfox, Yoshi's Island, or Super Mario RPG.
-
Yeah, that's too bad about Super Mario RPG.
-
Yeah, that's too bad about Super Mario RPG.
The good news is that they are continually working on updating the firmware. One day they'll have support for those games.
-
Hm, yeah, I guess it's possible as with an emulator. He has to try to eventually emulate the chips that he didn't install on the PCB and what not.
-
If anyone needs help setting up their SD cards I will post a checklist of what you'll need. It's a little more complicated than your typical flashcart. One thing I will mention here is do not use the latest firmware. Use version 0.1.4a
