Title: The best of Tim & Eric
Post by: nullity on April 03, 2014, 02:52:50 AM
I was recently asked about the origin of my avatar, and realized the answer is thread worthy.

So, when I was first exposed to Tim and Eric I was less than impressed. I don't recall what of theirs it was that I saw... maybe it was just a promo commercial... but it made me think that I'd rather pleasure myself with a cheese grater than spend even a minute watching the Tim and Eric show.

Flash forward a decade:

I saw this image on some random news article's comment thread and, knowing nothing about it, instantly knew it was the one and only avatar I would ever use from that day forward:

I set out on a mission to discover the origins of this amazing image and eventually was led to this YouTube clip:

This instantly converted me to a Tim & Eric fan.  I've always had a soft spot for astronomy/physics documentaries, and after viewing the above video, I can never watch one without laughing at how the scientists do tend to get all excited and go on rambling and admirable efforts to make a failed metaphor work.  I've actually gone on a documentary binge and am much more entertained than ever before. hahah...

In this thread, I invite everyone to share their favorite Tim & Eric clips.

GO!

that clip is a perfect example of my earlier post.
its like saturday night live sketches that just try too hard and end up on cutting room floor.
the comedy is effortless. and if they do apply effort, it just turns into random garbage.  like goat boy from SNL.
God, yes, please add jim brewer to my list above.

i do love that avatar though.

Never seen Tim & Eric, but I find Portlandia funny because I know people who live out in that area and act almost exactly like is portrayed in some of the skits.  Fred Armisen is pretty hilarious even outside of the show though.

You have to give T&E a chance. Some skits are juvenile, some fall flat, some are sublime.

They are a contemporary  extension of absurd/silly formula of Monty Python.

I know you dont believe that because its so far from the truth. British humor is horrible.

I enjoy a well timed insult. Spontaneous humor that you dont see coming. Thats the good stuff.

Been a fan of Tim & Eric since "Tom Goes To The Mayor" first aired on Adult Swim.

If you don't like Tim & Eric, do yourself a favor and check out the aforementioned show.

I see, so it starts about right there, he's visually and verbally "expressing" the big bang birth of the universe. Hahahahaha! Had to turn it down, sounds like he was making a porno, heh.

The show I take it parodies nerdy and overly enthusiastic scientists with their documentary/educational type shows. Yeah, I can see plenty of laughs coming from this.

I am a fan of Mr. Bean myself. Got into it cause my dad found it on some PBS station when I was a kid and wound up watching a few episodes with him. I bought the whole DVD set a few years ago and his movie. I don't really like his Johnny English spinoff or whatever though.

I have only seen the movie, which definitely had its moments.  I also just watched the Check It Out DVD, which is a side project of the show I believe?  They was pretty hilarious 40% of the time, which is an acceptable ratio.

Other shows I like much better for sketch comedy are The Whitest Kids U Know and Kids in the Hall.

The Kids In The Hall = Greatness

Back in the day, I even bought albums by "Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet"  because they did theme music.  (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

Both great selections, Kids In The Hall = sketch comedy staple.

Check out "Mr. Show" with Bob Odenkirk and Davis Cross. Pretty good.
