				when powering on...green light blinks then goes red.
 thats all my friend texted me. i have never heard of it.  you guys are a lot smarter than me with the diagnostics.
 any ideas?

				ps3repair guy agrees with null.

				Overheat or hard,disk failure. Probably.

				i had a YLOD my 1st model ps3. replaced the thermal paste, and re flowed solder. It worked after that, but then i bought a ps3 slim, like 2 weeks later, and i haven't used the 1st model since. So who knows if it still works

				Thanks guys. Yeah, he didnt give a whole lot of detail. I know he keeps it in a bad spot (inside entertainment center with very little air flow). Things are practically disposable anyway. I think his is a model 1.

				It's YLOD.  Contrary to the name, the console will go green and then to red very quickly and emit a series of beeps.  Get your buddy to view this video.  Fast forward to 1:30.  If this is what his is doing then it's YLOD.
 
 My original 40GB had YLOD.  I did the thermal paste thing and the heat gun reflow.  It came back to life long enough for me to copy everything and last another 2 months.  Based on my limited study, it seems the original 40GB are most prone to this failure.
