Since the game is always listed as a 2 player version, I would like to know whether anybody ever tried it.
My experience is with the CD version, that there is NO multiplayer mode.
Is the Huey different in that regard from the CD? I wonder if someone knows that...
-
I don't see a two player option on it.
When you hit run the game just starts.
I checked with an Everdrive but I doubt that makes a difference.

In the HuCard version, press RUN on the 2P controller for 2 Player simultaneous gameplay.

Didn´t work on the CD version. Flipped controllers, tried the LT double tap, no works.......
Looks like an urban myth that it is a 2 player game in CD version.

The manual makes it look like a single player game.
PCECP lists it as single player and got most of its info from the PC Engine Catalog.
Where have you seen it listed as a 2 player game?

Doh, well that's why I'm here to learn.

yeah, the hu card version is two player but hard as hell.

I read on PCEP for the HuCard. Didn´t come to think that the CD version would be single player, since it is basically nothing like an "upgrade". Pcengine.co.uk doesn´t mention as well that it is single player only....
Who the hell would make an updated version and EXCLUDE multiplayer???
-
Yeah, the CD Version is actually inferior to the HuCard version. Personally, I don't care for either version all that much. At least both are better than Golden Axe on PC-Engine. Stay away from Golden Axe.

Golden Hoax

A ruthless, bitter, wicked god.

Like geise said, you're really not missing out by not having a two player version on CD. In fact, you're probably losing something by playing Altered Beast...on any system. One of Sega's worst I would say.

Well, the sad thing is I would have really liked the team mode...like I do on all beat em ups...

Yeah, I've never understood what people saw in this game, even back when it was new. It's got big sprites, I guess... that's a thing, right?

Just old memories...played it in my holidays on the arcade when I was young...never got to play it till the end cause the money was gone by then
Guess that this is a good reason why.

Sega released a lot of mediocre arcade games at the time.
It wasn't until the console versions were released minus all the shiney that
they couldn't stand up on gameplay, but this was true of lots of arcade games.
-
It's true about a lot of games around that time but I think Shinobi still stands the test of time and so does Golden Axe (the arcade version, not the PCE version). I just never clicked with Altered Beast. But you're right, having a 2-player option (and having someone to play with) would make this less mediocre.

You´re right with Shinobi - that is still on my list. I remember playing it endlessly on the Master System in the shopping centre....wow its really that long ago. Must be 25 years now.....man
