Hey Everyone,
I was looking at getting a 6 button controller and I was wondering how these work on non-6 button games? Can you re-configure the button layout the way you want, or does it force you into some pre-setup configuration? I know that the 3-button controllers have limited-layout modifications that can be applied, but I wasn't sure about the 6 button ones.

They have a switch for 2 and 6 button operation. Some games let you change the button actions (namely vs. fighters) but buttons I-VI are always going to be buttons I-VI at the controller.

That isn't quite accurate. You can choose whether button 3 aliases select, run, or nothing. That's the extent of the "layout modifications."

The 6 button doesn't offer the "You can choose whether button 3 aliases select, run, or nothing. " option?
EDIT:Just checked...damn, now I want a 3 button :?

no, they are very different controllers. 6 button games have to be programed to understand the 6 button controller. Though the 6 button pads do have a switch to function as a standard 2 button pad.
The 3 button pads don't do anything special, they just have an extra button that will either be RUN or Select based on a switch, the system itself sees no difference when RUN or Button 3 is pressed. The advantage here is that they work for every game. Nice for games like Valis III that use RUN as the Slide button.

Seems like a good enough place to ask, I was thinking about trying to get a pair of avanue 6 pads and recall a Japanese site that still sold new ones? Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Thanks for that and I have bought one off eBay.

I got a question regarding the 6 button Hori fighting commander. Anyone know why there are two "6b" (6 button function) switch positions? There doesn't seem like any difference between the two.

Just to match the other 3 position switches?

You're probably right. I was hoping the extra position did something special.
