Title: Final PC Engine LT Mod
Post by: wolfman on April 23, 2014, 10:28:46 AM
Finally I have a matching screen. Though the 3.5" was a low-cost alternative I wasn´t happy, since it wouldn´t match the screen shell and needed a custom-made black border around the front for beauty reasons.

Now I´ve got a 4" screen that I glued to the existing metal housing of the original screen. It can be perfectly aligned to match in place if switched on. The replacement screen generates very little heat.

I tapped composite and ground from the bottom motherboard, as I didn´t want to solder on top of the metal leads leading to the expansion port (just below the screen hinge). Although there is little space one can use a dremel to grind off a part of the pcb that is unused on the back of the LT unit, right beside where the expansion port is located. That way you get a passage for the 2 cables.

What I also did is to tap power directly from the plugs located on both sides, so that I would get 9V IN ANY CASE. Since the screen automatically accepts anything from 6V to 12V I can power the LT from any source that delivers 9V AND LOWER (as it will work with less voltage as well!).

Here is a pic of the 3.5" car screen mod:
