Title: Art Contest #1 - Obey Your Homebrew (non-artists welcome and encouraged to join)
Post by: nullity on April 23, 2014, 12:51:08 PM
Today I spent a few moments to pick up some homebrew to support the awesome devs in this community. Because I rock, I bought extra copies and/or had extra copies donated for this contest (thanks Mindrec!) and hoarded some other turbo related warez.
[ul][li]GRAND PRIZE: Autographed Evo Cho Aniki original drawing by Nullity[/li][li]2.5x3.5 Turbo Express Picture Frame[/li][li]Preorder: Lucretia (including Eponasoft magnet/zipper pull)<-- out of stock[/li][li]Meteor Blaster DX[/li][li]Meteor Blaster DX (in original case art)[/li][li]Implode[/li][li]4x 5-packs of Seymour Onion Hu Sleeves[/li][li]?x Box Protectors[/li][li]4x TTI Zonk Stickers[/li][li]3x TurboDuo Bumper Stickers[/li][li]?x "Grimm" Business Cards (Mysterious Song)[/li][/ul] To win, you guys must read my ramblings and do my bidding!
"What is thy bidding, my master?", you might be asking. Simple.

I want you to draw for me a mash up of a celebrity (or forum member) and a TG16/PCE character/reference. You can use whatever you want... pencil, macaroni, MS Paint, etc... Points will be awarded first and foremost for lulz and creativity, and secondly for technical artsy fartsy skill.
I will be the sole judge. A winner, runner up, and any honorable mentions will be chosen at some point between the day that I have the games in hand and the end of time.
1st Place = homebrew game of your choice plus surprises 2nd Place = leftover homebrew game of your choice plus lesser surprises 3rd Place = leftover homebrew game of your choice plus even lesser surprises. Honorable Mention = surprises and maybe surprises.
On your marks... get set... DERP!
Edit: as you can see by the sample, you don't have to be Michaelangelo, like pizza, or even use nunchaku... (no offense, Xele) In fact, poor art skills may add to the lulz factor if you have a good concept.
Edit 2:
Q. When is the deadline?
A. Uhm... as soon as we have several entrants and nobody else starts submitting (or pledging to submit) entries? OR June 1st. Yes, I love June 1st. That will be the arbitrary deadline, but it may be called early if it looks like we've had all the submissions we're gonna get.

Seems that we had the same goal of trying to motivate people to go over the top.
I've added a few more things to the prize list... I'll revise the OP soon. Among the new items are several 5-packs of Hu sleeves from Seymour Onion. Some box protectors. The AUTOGRAPHED Evo Cho Aniki drawing. And I'm working on getting more goodies for participants. ( :
Nullity, you just never quit, OMG!!! You get a gold star everyday for the next forever!!! Yeah!

I actually feel kind of petty and small for following through on this forumite/obey mashup. But the end result? I couldn't keep this from the world. I hope Evo takes this in good humor, and if not, i'll provide him with a laughable photo of myself that he can use for making his own submission to this contest.
I'm sure he'll love this draw-ring!

Hahaha, is the Aniki drawing based on one of EvilEvo's pictures? Lol I really want to see that!
Actually I don't.

Its kind of a "where are they now scenario" for Xak. I figured he may not be Obeying since being shunned by the forum. Which also gives warning.... Sell out to the Feka dark side, and you too may end up jelqing Satan lol....
And turbob in trash is not the only platform reference. Satan is not only a celeb, but a character in Daimakaimura too!

I'm thinking about taking this party to a poll either here or on facebook, or both. I wanted to be the judge nazi because i'm a megalomaniac, but there have been so many quality entries that I'll waffle til the end of time trying to decide on winners. ) :
That'd be a cool way to decide. :3

Le box didn't got the way I wanted to, but at least the painting (left) got decent enough. Yay! :) Now I remember why I had low grades in art class.

That guy in the lower right is me playing a shooter "F@%$ this piece of S!#* game and it's too many F@%$ing C^&* Enemies" <throws remote against the way and goes and plays outside>
The screen reads: "Level 1" and "The End"

Hahah it was supposed to be an interpretation of Nullity's avatar, but I guess that's the beauty in abstract art isn't it? :P

Well I did fear the proportions of frustration and anger were done correctly in conjunction with the explosion behind me of the turbopad exploding against the wall. Now I usually don't wear my sunglasses inside...I wear my sunglasses at night...So I guess it doesn't quite fit :)

I thought it was a certain North Korean leader...you should consider changing your story.

I feel like opening a L'Gallerie d'Art right now... lol so many interpretations, my incomprehensible drawings will give artsy people stuff to do at weekends. "Is it the Great Leader? What's that white triangle, maybe Mt. Fuji? Is it a critique that the NK army wants to take Asia yet they have obsolete bellic equipment (hence the "Galaga '90")? Marvellous piece of artwork, how much, $500.000? Can I pay you in Magical Chases?"
Suddenly being awful at art isn't bad at all.

Yeah, I know. Art that must be explained is the only true art.
PROOF: How many times do you have to explain what a Turbo Grafx is?
You should edit the image to include a beaten up loose china warrior in it. And some 90's lens flare in the MC box haha.
Hmm yess.

So I've been trying to come up with an idea for a few weeks. I'm no artist so it had to be simple shapes I could sketch. Today, while following a truck with a bunch of stickers in the window and plastic balls hanging from the hitch, it dawned on me.

I know it's gigantic I'm sorry. I drew this on the back of a receipt because of a lack of paper at the time. I originally wanted to have Marty McFly riding a Huey but this was all my non-artistic hands could muster. I mean, Huey Lewis is a celebrity in my eyes, so i figure this is good enough.

In the event that I die from expunging my guts (or mcdonalds withdrawal) before this contest ends, then you all lose and my corpse will laugh at you.
McDonalds = Death.... :(

Oh man, sorry to hear you're not feeling well. :(
But hooray for the extension! I was just telling my wife that I wanted to add something to this thread and was bummed that I never had the chance. Now maybe I'll actually get around to it! I've sat down a couple of times, but the ideas I had just never panned out well enough. I'm still hoping for a better idea to pop up. :)

STATUS: I wanted to do a very tactile, mixed-media (ha!) thing, but the photo still seems very flat (I tried to make the necklaces and scraps of paper pop up a bit).
I made this the other day, but didn't have a chance to take a photo until this morning. (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)
I attempted to have the figures stand upright, but the paper is thin and I didn't have any patience.
