Title: My Duo-R wouldn't read CD's last night
Post by: technozombie on May 16, 2014, 12:52:41 AM
I just skimmed over some posts on the subject last night before going to bed. I guess the first step is to try adjusting the pots. It's one that supposedly had the laser "refurbished" by doujindance. I bought it in November of last year. ](*,)

this is the 3rd time in the past month I've heard of cd reading trouble from doujindance DUO-r consoles.
the other two I worked on needed new CD lenses. maybe the lenses he has been getting are bogus.
Honestly I'd stay away from his consoles in general. He cakes all his wiring with glue of some sort making it very difficult to fix some things if they ever go bad in the future.
I would try a new CD lens and see if that fixes the problem.

Do you know what model lens/where to get? I'm sure its on the forum already but I haven't had time to look it up(at work at the moment). When I ordered it, I wasn't a member of this forum and when I saw it on Ebay, it had everything I wanted, rgb mod, region mod, and refurbished lens. I thought that having a new lens I would be trouble free for a long time.

HOP-M3 is the lens model number. I know they can be found on ebay for around 20 bucks. make sure it is an HOP-M3
Not the HOP-M3A

Well, I'm baffled. Going back a little bit I rearranged my game room, moving the Duo to the other side of the room. The next day when I tried it, it wasn't working thus my post. Today I moved it to another room to start trouble shooting and it work first try, load quick and everything. So, I take it back to the game room and boom, not working. Then back to the other room with, and working again. So I go back to the game room and just hook it up on the other wall and it works. I'm stumped. I have Tv's and other game systems hooked up on that wall and they all work fine. Well I'm happy to have it working.

Techno, I vaguely remember someone here having a similar issue and I think the end result was that the entertainment center/shelf/whatever that was being used near the "bad" power socket was *slightly* unlevel. When he moved it to other locations, it worked and baffled him as well. Have you tried putting the Duo on the floor where you normally plug it in to see if it works that way?

I actually stretched it out across the floor so that I could plug it in to the other wall and still use the same TV and it worked. I do remember reading the post you are talking about. Lol, I need to figure this out the Duo is the only console I play anymore. I also tried a Genesis model 2(I think) AC adapter and it still didn't work on the lolBroke Wall. I'm using a PsOne AC adapter on it, could that have something to do with it? The system has been working fine (on the opposite wall) since I got it in November.

I have no idea.... I am only an egg. As long as you got it working, it's all good, right? :D

That is wild. I've never heard of that issue before unless there is maybe a slight short in the power supply wiring?

I might make a video just to prove to myself I'm not crazy lol. Would it be in my best interest to go ahead and buy a new lens for future use? Would it go bad in storage, or is there a regular supply such that in a year or so I could still get one?

That reminds me, years ago, when I had a US Duo, it wouldn't load CDs when I had it it my bedroom. But if I brought it into the living room, it would work pretty well. And when I brought it to a friend's house it worked flawlessly. I never did figure out the problem. I always guessed it had to be something about the power, or some kind of interference in the area. I eventually sold it when I got a PCE and IFU-30, which worked perfectly everywhere.

So I found out something interesting and I made a video about it.

Yeah, I think it was my friend IrishNinja that posted about his ongoing issues with his doujindance Duo-R. At first he thought it was a bad power supply since the system worked at other people's houses but eventually realized it was the incredibly slight incline of his entertainment center that was messing with it.
Kind of ridiculous!

hmm... strange. Could the plasma actually be interfering with the operation?

Mine had an issue with CD game music and audio drops after about a year. Adjusting one of the internal pots solved it. But I don't remember noticing all the wiring being 'caked'. I'll have to have another look, cause I wonder if he just started doing this?
At the time of the above I order a back-up HOP-M3 laser just in case the pot adjustment didn't work. It never hurts to have a spare on hand :D

Yea, he sent it this way along with his nes to be rgb modded. I was excited to check it out because I hadn't purchased mine yet. Booted up both the Valis game as well as a CDR first try over here. As soon as he got it back it wouldn't work at his place. So so strange.
