Title: 3D0- The story of the 'Out of this World' that has no business playing, plays.

At MGC I scored a copy of Out of this World (Loose disc) for the 3D0.  When I took one look at the disc I saw it was damaged, most likely beyond any repair.  The guy at the booth just said, "well, have it for free".  So I took it for whatever reason..   To say, "Hey, look!  I got this disc...  It's busted, would love to play it some day..."

The other day I had hooked up the 3D0 to play some Twisted (Advised by DragonmasterDan as an excellent title to pick up!  (Which it is!) ) when I was all laughed out from playing that, I decided, what the hell, I'll pop in and see what happens....

What!?!  How can this be?  I'm playing a disc that looks like Nullity sat on it!!

Now, maybe you guys don't know this, but this 3D0 was non-functional over a year ago and then fully refurbished by our very own Chop5 with brand new gears and lens reworks... and I know this makes it read discs with quite a bit more precision... but.. it can read through discs that are cracked clear through!?!

  How is this possible?  O_O

I did sit on it. My ass has healing powers... much like drinking from the fountain of youth, a single toss of the salad grants optical media eternal readability.

Damn I need to toss one time and send you my broken disks.

Nice find none the less, to bad you couldn't find some way to mold a piece of plastic in there with out causing further damage.

Great that it works, but it's dangerous to play cracked discs because the stress of spinning can cause the cracks to expand and eventually shatter the disc inside your console, damaging the lens and moving parts.

I've had good results spreading a very thin film of J.B. Weld on the inside clear plastic ring of cracked CD's/DVD's. Don't use much or it'll unbalance the disc, but it will help stop the cracks from expanding.

It's the 3DO not the 3DZero! BANNED!

I dunno about Twisted. It might be fun with multiple people but I've never been able to get into it.

I have Twisted for 3DO as well, isn't it the wacky game show?

Anyway, I haven't been too impressed by Twisted, either, although I should give it another chance.

Need for Speed was better on the Playstation and Saturn than it was on the 3DO.

Im gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on that one

The ps and ss are missing that awesome dude.. that talks to you.. that guy is priceless.
Some of the awesome codes are missing If I remember, like exploding the traffic into the air and the scooter.
what else.. the crashes are way cooler on 3do more realistic..ish physics.. don't know, crashers were just better on the 3do.
Did I mention that priceless dude guy?

Anyway, I haven't been too impressed by Twisted, either, although I should give it another chance.

It's fun but it's a multiplayer game only, unless you want to play against yourself.

The trivia is from 1993, and is a bit outdated but the other minigames play well. I love the presentation of the game, it reminds me a bit of the old Nickelodeon show "Out of Control" mixed with some cable access programming.

There is a sequel of sorts called Zhadnost, same basic gameplay, more of an Eastern European theme.

I'm gonna bust out my 3DO and give Twisted another chance....this summer.  (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

I don't know why but playing Twisted makes me feel depressed. It must have a toxic atmosphere below all its cheese.

Need for Speed was better on the Playstation and Saturn than it was on the 3DO.

I am going to have to disagree here too. I think the 3DO version has better/more detailed graphics. The game is less "arcade-y" than the PS1 port too which I appreciate in that particular game. I will say that the PS1 port has more spectacular crashes, even between the AI drivers. I remember a pile up I witnessed in the 90s that will never leave my mind. On one of the bonus tracks about 10 opponent cars went all retarded and smashed into one another. My buddy and me laughed for nearly two weeks. It was SO FUNNY HAHA!

Did you try to save it yet with something like Alcohol 52%, Josh? I dunno what format 3DO discs are in, whether mode1, mode2, and all one data track or mixed mode, but I would try seeing if you can fully rip it. Alcohol 52% can rip it to CloneCD format. Would be curious to see if a PC drive will read those sectors out with no problems.

that disc, while being cracked like that, probably still plays flawlessly because at the start of the disc isn't where the crack is to be seen or maybe the bootcode to say "yes im a 3d0 disc" is kept somewhere else on the disc. i've had cd's that were cracked before hand and audio CDs that had the beginning warped a bit and still had no issues. OOTW is a pretty small game i don't know if it has any enhanced moments or given any polish. you might be lucky and all the data on the game is written far after the crack. maybe the beginning of the disc was dummied out or maybe it has an audio track in that area stating its a disc made for 3d0 so take it out of your player and put it in the 3d0.
